    The ACI investigate and publicise the findings of cables found to be faulty counterfeit or non compliant with British European or International Standards According to the ACI 20 of the cable in the UK supply chain is unsafe non approved or counterfeit resulting in 27 of all electrical fires across England attributed to faultywires and cables over 4000 a year 1200 non fatal major accidents over the last 5 years 15 deaths from faulty electric wires over the last 5 years Recommendations Installing unsafe or counterfeit cables is not only irresponsible and dangerous but can result in substantial costs to replace and could result in investigations by the Health and Safety Executive HSE and criminal proceedings To be sure you don t fall into the trap of using unsafe non approved and counterfeit cable follow these simple recommendations Never install unmarked cables check markings on cable and NOT JUST on packaging Ensure there is full traceability on cables and products specified and purchased and keep records Insist on independent third party accredited and approved product AS A MINIMUM If you are unsure of any cable product the ACI will check and test these free of charge Always buy cables from
