    jobs and skills in the industry Quality Meat Scotland has also provided educational support materials and funding in the form of the QMS School Meat Voucher Scheme This partnership was set up by the Scottish Food and Drink Federation SFDF as part of its A Future in Food national schools programme A Future in Food works to build partnerships between Scottish schools and food and drink businesses helping teachers pupils and parents better understand where their food comes from how it s produced and what careers are available in the sector Pupils from Bathgate Academy celebrate their achievement Moira Stalker SFDF Schools Programme Coordinator s aid There are so many exciting job opportunities in food in science product development engineering marketing nutrition and design This project is a great way to get local children thinking about how their food is produced and how that relates to the many exciting jobs on offer Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead said Fantastic projects like this can inspire young people helping them make the connection with where the food on their plates comes from and encouraging them to consider a career in food and drink By working with local companies such as Stoddart s which has grown over the years to be a leading player in the beef sector at home and abroad young people can learn more about the role food plays in their lives which helps them to make informed choices for their future Lucy Husband Sales Marketing Director Stoddart s said We are delighted to be working with Bathgate Academy on this exciting challenge The initiative will have given these young people an understanding of the demanding process and skills needed to develop new products and bring them to market The quality of the proposals we received for this initiative was

  • Stoddart's support food and drink industry's Tasty Careers initiative
    their career goals by helping them to develop their skills knowledge and experience in a workplace setting In partnership with the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Stoddart s recently launched Tasty Careers a ground breaking initiative where six long term unemployed job seekers from the local community were given the opportunity to learn about the industry the way products are made and gain job specific skills The two week course comprised of a mix of training sessions in a classroom environment hands on training and work experience At the end of the programme participants were awarded certificates in Food Safety and Health and Safety gained quality experience with a leading employer within the industry and attend a real job interview They finished ready for the job with the right skills and knowledge Stoddart s would like to congratulate Robbie Baxter Zbigniew Gierszewski Allan Miller Brian Caldwell John Binnie and Stuart Westwood on successfully completing the Tasty Careers programme All candidates should be immensely proud of their achievements Further we are pleased to announce that as a result of their hard work commitment and enthusiasm all six participants have since been offered and accepted jobs with Stoddart s We

  • Young unemployed people in West Lothian given helping hand back to work with Stoddart's
    Week Youngsters from the local area will be given a tour of Stoddart s state of the art production facility at Broxburn by members of management and have the chance to talk to current employees to find out what working in the food and grocery industry is really like Participants will also attend workshops with Human Resources to help them develop their employability skills and improve their chances of getting a job Working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus in Broxburn Stoddart s is taking part in the national Feeding Britain s Future campaign which has united the entire food and grocery industry in an effort to tackle youth unemployment This week businesses across the industry s supply chain will open their doors to provide free skills training for thousands of young unemployed people in Great Britain and Northern Ireland Feeding Britain s Future driven by industry think tank IGD is the first initiative of its kind giving young people access to farms factories and stores and firsthand knowledge of the skills needed for a career in the food industry or elsewhere The food and grocery industry is the UK s biggest employer providing 3 6m or one in seven jobs and there are a huge range of careers on offer At Stoddart s we work continuously to promote youth employment both on a local and national level as it is something which we are extremely passionate about As an industry we are experiencing a number of skills shortages and the young people of today are of crucial importance to the continued success of our businesses We are looking forward to welcoming the young people onto our premises on Thursday 20 th September 2012 and showing them around so that they can see for themselves the variety of employment opportunities that
