  • About your MP | Alok Sharma MP - Member of Parliament for Reading West
    Reading Alok a qualified chartered accountant has a range of work experience from working on a factory production line being a company auditor tutoring university students running a business and advising companies on corporate finance Elected in 2010 for Reading West with one of the largest swings to the Conservatives in the country Alok has served as a member of the Commons Science and Technology Select Committee a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Treasury as Conservative Party Vice Chairman with special responsibility for BME communities and as a member of the Treasury Select Committee where he supported the work of the committee to encourage reform of the banking sector He is also Co Chairman of Conservative Friends of India In 2015 Alok increased his Parliamentary majority and now serves as a Parliamentary Private Secretary for Oliver Letwin the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster to support him in his brief working across departments to help deliver government policy During his first term as an MP Alok has run many campaigns with local groups and constituents to ensure that Reading is a great place to continue to live and run a business Alok has also successfully campaigned to deliver government investment in local infrastructure including improvements at Reading Tilehurst Theale Pangbourne and Reading West stations and the extension of Crossrail to Reading as well as campaigning to increase the number of Standard Class carriages on First Great Western trains He has helped to deliver funding to cut road congestion and for flood alleviation projects across west Reading including the Purley Bund Alok has worked with local school and parent groups like All Saints Junior School The Wren School and Purley Primary School to deliver extra government funding and ensure that we have much needed extra school places being created Alok has
