    Letters Gallery Contact Links Sharma speaks at Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe meeting Alok Sharma the Member of Parliament for Reading West on Saturday 22nd November 2014 attended a general meeting organised by the Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe ROHRZ Held at the Reading International Solidarity Centre the event was organised by the Reading branch of ROHRZ The group do not affiliate themselves with any particular party in Zimbabwe but are committed to bringing about change in the country The group aims to educate and encourage Zimbabwean s to help them secure their constitutional rights to participate in politics and stand up for their human rights During the meeting Alok heard from some of the attendees experiences of living in Zimbabwe and some of the human rights abuses in the country Alok Sharma said I was pleased to attend this event organised by the Reading branch of Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe and to hear about their very important work to help bring democratic reform to this troubled country Alok continued The UK government expressed concerns about voting irregularities and large numbers of people being turned away at polling stations during the election last year and I welcome the work the Department for International Development is doing in Zimbabwe to reduce corruption and its impact on development I will be holding a meeting in Parliament shortly together with ROHRZ to discuss the ongoing issues in Zimbabwe Nicodimus Muganhu Reading Branch Chairperson ROHRZ said We as Reading Branch are very grateful to have found sanctuary in this country and Reading in particular because basic freedoms in Zimbabwe have been stifled by the regime of Mugabe Citizenry has been abused with impunity by government sponsored militias who often ignore basic rights regarding detention searches freedom of expression freedom of choice and intellectual

    in Whitley NatWest Branch Closure in Pangbourne No to Pincents Hill Development Number 33 Bus Route Number 33 Bus Route Survey Save the Bath Road Reservoir Campaign Southcote rat infestation The Reading Futures Fair Underwood Road Precinct Development Visitor Parking Permits Letters Gallery Contact Links Taxes to be cut for 30 million people under a Conservative government Alok Sharma the Member of Parliament for Reading West has welcomed a commitment revealed by the Prime Minister today that a future Conservative government would cut taxes for 30 million people Speaking at the Conservative Party conference Prime Minister David Cameron pledged that by the end of the next Parliament in April 2020 The tax free Personal Allowance will be increased to 12 500 The Higher Rate Threshold at which people start paying 40 per cent tax will be increased to 50 000 A 12 500 Personal Allowance will mean that nobody working 30 hours a week on the minimum wage will pay income tax assuming an 8 minimum wage in 2020 on the basis of current projections 30 hours is the threshold in the tax credit system for full time work The Prime Minister has also committed to ensuring everyone will have access to a GP seven days a week by 2020 and that NHS spending will continue to rise throughout the life of the next Parliament Reacting to the Prime Minister s speech Alok Sharma said This was one of the best speeches David Cameron has ever given It had gravitas substance and detail providing a huge contrast to Ed Miliband s speech last week when he forgot to make a single mention of the economy and deficit I am absolutely delighted that under a Conservative government there is going to be even more funding for the NHS and tens of

  • Sharma opens Berkshire MS Therapy Centre Christmas Fayre
    providing physiotherapy at the centre Alok has opened the Christmas fayre previously in 2011 and 2012 The event this year managed to raise 1 513 07 The Berkshire MS Therapy Centre was established to provide a range of therapy treatments guidance and support to encourage self help to enable improved disease symptom management and to promote an enhanced quality of life for people with MS their families and carers The centre is housed in a modern building which was specifically designed to provide several facilities including a relaxing area a gymnasium meeting and therapy rooms and an oxygen chamber The independent local charity was established in the 1980s by a group of people all suffering from MS who wanted to provide support to the local MS community by way of therapies Alok Sharma said I was delighted to return to the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre for my first Christmas Fayre of the season The Therapy Centre is always an extremely welcoming place to visit and I never fail to be impressed by the enthusiasm of those involved in running the centre and providing care I came away from the fayre with some super purchases including a jar of delicious homemade
