  • Unemployment continues dramatic fall in Reading West
    claiming Job Seeker s Allowance in Reading West has fallen by 60 since the last General Election with 999 people making a claim in November 2014 compared to 2 483 in May 2010 Youth unemployment also continued its dramatic fall hitting a new record low with just 145 claimants aged under 25 which is down by 77 compared to 640 in May 2010 The Office for National Statistics has also confirmed that wage growth is outstripping inflation with average earnings excluding bonuses between August and October up 1 6 from a year earlier Alok Sharma said It is very welcome news that unemployment is continuing to fall in my constituency and that youth unemployment has hit a new record low These figures together with confirmation that wages are outstripping inflation mean that my constituency is really benefiting from the government s long term economic plan Of course there is more to do and that is why we must stick to the long term plan Alok Sharma MP Reading West The Reading West constituency embraces parts of two local unitary authorities Reading Borough and West Berkshire Reading Battle Kentwood Minster Norcot Southcote Tilehurst and Whitley West Berkshire Birch Copse Calcot Pangbourne
