personal experiences The EP opens with American Dreamer a song which really shows off the vocal range and song writing skills of Alexz Johnson seriously her vocals are incredible and the louder you listen to the music the more enjoyable things become as you start to appreciate Alexz Johnson singing her heart out This Is Heartache is not as infectious and beautiful sounding as the opening track but instead it is full of tasty synths and is generally a good listen as Alexz Johnson sings about heartache with catchy lyrics of Found a new best keeping me so young pulled you like a trigger and shot you like a gun since you ve been gone it s killing me son I think about you every day and Love is unkind love is so cruel sending back the letters that i ve sent you my velvet red heart s all black and blue which seriously shows off what a great lyricist she is Nothin On Me is a big soulful sounding songs where the vocals really shine whilst the EP closer Thank You For Breaking My Heart shows off a more chilled yet serious side of Alexz Johnson as she just

to finish as is the case with many songs of this genre one could argue they get extra points for sheer impact It s safe to say it was an unexpected blast from the past and it s been done very well Blind As Faith is a fun filled track guarenteed to have you boogying around the room like a Dad at a disco The b side What s Happening

April and after listening to the album a few times over I can confirm that it has been worth the wait and is easily the bands strongest album since 2003 s Good Mourning The album opens with She Lied To The FBI and as soon as the catchy nature of the song kicks in with Matt Skiba s fast flowing vocals you just know that Alkaline Trio still have the knack to write new songs that quickly become fan favourites the song is quite a simple pop punk song yet it features the same vibe and feel of classic Alkaline Trio material and you can t help but bop along to melodic sounds coming through your speakers I Wanna Be A Warhol is the first single taken from the album and also the first song Alkaline Trio premiered from the album a couple of months ago the song is a little darker sounding from the opening track and features a solid amount of electronic work and synths vocally the song is extremely catchy and leaves me wondering if Skiba is itching to reform his old side project The Heavens due to the electronic effects running through I m Only Here To Disappoint is a beast of a track and is the first track on the album to feature Dan Andriano on lead vocals the song comes at you like a whirlwind with big bouncy bass lines and fast guitar riffs whilst Andriano really give it his all with upbeat vocals Kiss You To Death see s Alkaline Trio go down a dark sounding depressing road Skiba takes on lead vocals here and his vocals add to the overall darkness of the song as he sings Kiss you to death tonight in such a slow way whilst the rest of the band come in with backing vocals of woahh woahh whilst the song does sound dark and depressing throughout the guitar work gives out just enough power to mix things up a bit Instrumentally The Temptation Of St Anthony sounds a lot different from previous Alkaline Trio material as they mix things up a big and go all out creating sounds that some people would never expect from the Trio vocally the song is catchy as hell especially when the chorus kicks in and Skiba really goes for it Out of all the teaser videos that Alkaline Trio released to promote the release of My Shame Is True the song that stood out the most was I Pessimist the song features Tim McIlrath from Rise Against and is a fast as fuck punk rock number where Mciirath and Andriano battle it out with their vocals complimenting each other on the way the song is a short 2minute blast of energy and is a big middle finger salute to anyone who claims Alkaline Trio have lost their punk edge The later part of the album features some cracking songs such as the slow paced dark themed Only Love the ever so classic

is to be called My Shame Is True and it is due for release on the 1st April and will once again be released on Heart And Skull Records via Epitaph Records along with the album announcement Alkaline Trio announced that the lead single from the album is to be I Wanna Be A Warhol and they instantly released an lyric video on You Tube When it comes to new Alkaline Trio music you pretty much know what you are going to get before you press play the only thing that really changes from time to time is who takes control of lead vocals out of Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano and I Wanna Be A Warhol sticks to this formula with Matt Skiba taking on the lead vocals the song is really fast and melodic sounding and is instantly going to be a fan favourite Many people criticise Alkaline Trio for never upping their game and always sticking to the same style but why after 8 studio albums would Alkaline Trio want to go down a different route when after all they have one of the most dedicated fan bases out there who have stuck with them through the

sounds slightly slower yet even darker due to the addition of the piano which adds a slightly spookier edge to the song whilst Matt Skiba s vocals sound as clear and easy listening as ever The video that Alkaline Trio released to preview the album was for Clavicle and the song is your basic stripped down acoustic song with not much more to offer now some people may find this slightly bland but compared to the original version of the song it is a decent variation and quite a simple listen The reworked version of Mercy Me works really well as the whole acoustic guitars help add to the catchy vibe of the song and the dual vocals from Dan Andriano and Matt Skiba pretty much run the show proving that you don t need electronics when your vocals are so good Some of the tracks on Damnesia sound quite different such as The American Scream which opens with an eerie sounding piano piece rather than the fast paced guitar assault like the original We ve Had Enough features a double bass which really adds to the atmosphere whilst Private Eye is majorly slowed down The cover song featured on the album is a cover of The Violent Femmes I Held Her In My Arms and it features a massive upbeat positive twang kicking off an almost country music feel the two new tracks featured on the album are Olde English 800 which is a short catchy song which features Matt Skiba taking charge of the melodic vocals whilst the second new track is I Remember A Rooftop and despite being very basic sounding it features Dan Andriano at his best with his vocals on top form There is only one way to finish an greatest hits style Alkaline Trio

the same name which is due for release on the 23rd February Throughout the end of 2009 Alkaline Trio teased their fans every now and again saying that they were working on a new studio album and that it would be a dirty rock album which also featured their punk rock roots this had many fans thinking and hoping that the new album would sound more like Goddamnit than any of their other material Well after listening to the single This Addiction over and over again for the best part of ten hours now I can confirm to you that the song sounds nothing like anything from Goddamnit and sounds more like their From Here To Infirmary era from the downright catchy hooks all the way to the clean cut production Derek Grant makes a big impact with his tubtumping drums beats Dan Adriano hits off some smooth sounding bass lines whilst Matt Skiba shines brightly with his big melodic vocals which draw you into the song in a massive way Overall This Addiction has left me with a smile on my face and yet again left me hooked on another brand new Alkaline Trio song the wait for the

Trio albums released to date it s right up there with the darkness of Good Mourning the radio friendliness of Crimson and brilliantness of Maybe I ll Catch Fire the whole mixture is living proof of how and why Alkaline Trio are fastly becoming one of the most important punk rock bands I Found Away is many peoples favourite track from Agony And Irony including Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba the man loves the song so much and it is so easy to see why just give the fast paced infectious chorus a listen and you will be swept into the song like a vicious hurricane that you just can t escape I Found Away is very upbeat and very catchy and quite a creative song for Alkaline Trio taking a different approach from what they normally do Alkaline Trio seem to have that cross over effect where true punks really love them and also the more teeny bopper style kid whose feeling adventurous find them instantly appealing and if any song is going to bring the band a massive flurry of new fans in then it s going to be I Found Away it s got everything that you

a bad thing as after a couple of listens you forget about that and the song becomes extremely enjoyable and proves to be a perfect opening track It s easy to see that Alkaline Trio haven t been afraid to experiment with different sounds and styles here the biggest change in sound appears with In Vein the song is one of the main highlights from the album and starts off sounding like a ska song with its opening riffs and fast drums rolls bassist Dan Andriano has lead vocals throughout the song and his vocals sounding better than ever that s the good thing about alkaline Trio Matt and Dan share lead vocal duties and both have such distinctive vocals Matt s vocals can change in style and sound good no matter what and Dan s vocals have a raw edge that makes them so listenable The song also features lots of woah woah backing vocals which is a pure fan pleaser I know im going to get shot down for this comment but the opening of Over And Out sounds like the kind of spacey sounding introduction that Angels And Airwaves have been creating for the past couple of years luckily this only lasts for a couple of seconds before Dans bass comes in with quite a soothing bass line which runs right into the rocking chorus I Found Away starts off with a really eerie sounding voice over which lasts for about 15 seconds the music for the song soon comes in and happens to be such a fast up beat song that features some odd dance beat style sounds now this is a sound and route that alkaline Trio have never taken before but they have managed to master it well the song sounds big and totally has that major label feel about it which is okay by me as long as we don t get a whole album full of this sound in the future The riffs on Do you Wanna Know are quite meaty and rocky sounding but overall the song doesn t have anything special going for it The main highlight on Agony And Irony is the rifftastic sounding song Live Young Die Fast the song is really rocky and meaty sounding with its loud guitar riffs the vocals are slowed down a notch or two from the more fast pace that the rest of the album features the lyrics aren t that technical or special but it wont be long before you find yourself singing along So live young die fast No one will last So sit back and relax Enjoy the crash that fades into black and its gone Live young die fast die fast Love Love Kiss Kiss is a really interesting song and a song that took me many listens to gain a proper opinion on it when I first heard the song I really wasn t too sure on it but now I quite like it the song is
