singing together on the same track then I am sure most people would find it hard to pick out which vocalist is singing which bit The album opens with Emergency House Party and from that opening catchy guitar riff you know that American Steel are here to have a good time and to also help their fans have a good time as soon as Matt s vocals come in you will understand the Matt Skiba comparison as his vocals here sound so much like Matt s vocals from back in the early days of Alkaline Trio Tear The Place Apart features some great basslines which give you the feeling that the song is going to turn into a ska number but that sadly never happens but instead the song goes on a near 3minute melodic journey which happens to be very much fun and exciting the song is so infectious within the first listen you will be tapping your feet again and by the third or fourth listen you will have clearly nailed the lyrics and be singing along word for word Safe And Sound is the most interesting song on the album as it reminds me far too much of Burn by Alkaline Trio especially when the melodic chorus comes in it sounds so similar to the chorus of Burn even though the lyrics are so different it just features the same groove and infectious style what helps make Safe And Sound stand out from Burn a little bit is the group band vocals of Woahh Woahh The new American steel album is the perfect soundtrack to the summer it s so upbeat and infectious that you could listen to it on repeat for a whole 24 hours and still not get bored of it if you are planning

title track and the song comes at you in a catchy nature as Ahren Stringers clean cut vocals sound beautiful as he sings his little heart out whilst screamo master Joel Birch lets loose with his raw sounding vocals at regular intervals which seem to be well placed Life Underground is an instantly accessible track as Ahren Stringers comes in with his clean cut vocals whilst the rest of the band jam together knocking out some big riffs which become even bigger when Joel Birch comes in with his screamo vocals at the 1minute 10seconds mark as the band up their game with chunky riffs and big drum beats to go alongside the vocals RIP Bon is easily the best track on the album and one that hardcore The Amity Affliction fans will fall in love with straight away as it is extremely heavy and features a slight bit of electronic trickery and lyrically the song is written from the perspective of someone trying to deal with the suicide of a friend who ends up questioning things putting blame on themselves and The Amity Affliction do well covering this delicate subject in such a strong way As the album progresses it becomes more and more melodic with Ahren Stringers clean cut vocals taking over the airwaves especially throughout the likes of Open Letter I Heart H C and Flowerbomb which are all big melodic sounding songs I feel with Chasing Ghosts The Amity Affliction have created yet another great album but I do feel that fans of the band and the post hardcore scene may feel that they have toned their sound down slightly as the clean vocals dominate throughout with the screamo vocals not coming in as often as you would expect also I feel that The Amity Affliction

off with cinematic soundscapes and seconds later Joel Birch comes in with his fast and ferocious vocals whilst the rest of the band knock out some hectic instrumental work which sounds similar to a machine gun going off as the song progresses Ahren Stringer comes in with his clean cut sing a long vocals and things get mixed up with Birch and Stringer taking it in turns taking centre stage with their unique sounding vocals The main single to be taken from the album is the title track Youngbloods and it is one hell of an anthem the guitar work is extremely chunky and technical whilst Stringer gives the track a catchy edge with his clean cut vocals whilst Birch brings things back down to their hardcore roots with his more sing a long vocals As the album progresses each and every song works from the same foundations and sounds of raw meets melodic with tracks such as Fire Or Knife Olde English 800 and RIP Forghorn leading the pack with excellence Both Fire Or Knife and Olde English 800 opens really fast loud and raw and within seconds Stringer comes in knocking the tracks down a couple of beats with his melodic vocals before things pick up once again The great thing with The Amity Affliction is each and every member of the band is clearly an excellent musician and each person s work is as important as the next as there is so much going on throughout each track on the album you would instantly notice if one of the members slacked off or left and it is hard to pick a favourite vocalist out of Joel Birch and Ahren Stringer as they both have major positive effect on the band If you are into post hardcore music

post hardcore tracks I have heard in a long time and that is good going considering that the song is a good 18months old now the opening guitar riffs show off guitarists Troy Brady s technical guitar skills whilst the duel vocals from Joel Birch and Ahren Stringer work well together which Birch screaming his bollocks off and Stringer showing us what clean vocals are all about If you are

bonus track The Eyes Of Horror which isnt a bad track and goes well with the rest of the album sadly your not treated to a live version of this song also in the set there is new liner notes written by the band What is there to say about this album that hasn t already been written its intelligent well written the riffs are good and fast the drumming is some of the best you ll hear its fast but precise The production on this album is was pretty good to begin with its just seems to have been tweaked slightly Once Sent From The Golden Hall and The Avenger have already been reissued The Crusher is set to be released on September 1st its worth buying if you dont already own it if you already own this album it may be worth getting for the live album but you really must want it to justify buying an album you already own for the sake of an additional live album 4 5 Review by Robert Lawrence Band Members Johan Hegg Johan Söderberg Olavi Mikkonen Ted Lundström Fredrik Andersson Track Listing Disc 1 1 Bastards of a Living Breed 2

here and whilst there are sections in every song where there is some really nice musical showcase with interesting riffs and vocal work there feels like a lot of each song is a just strange ominous tones and sounds to fill up a significant amount of time I mean the very first track The Runner was mostly consumed with silence and slight noises here and there in my opinion a very unnecessary track that doesn t contain much music you wouldn t walk around with it playing on your mp3 player However there are songs on the album that I actually like such as The Wave Planet of Insects Golden Radio and Interstellar which I actually appreciate as good music because throughout there is music and not just random noises However there are a fair few songs that are very long and just drift along aimlessly like the 9 minute long title track Octopus 11 minute long Trading Dark Matter on the Stock Exchange 8 minute long Fall of the Empire and 5 minute long Bloodtest Some of the songs take on an extremely soft rock that is far too mellow and low tempo whilst some other take on a harder grunge edge and then there s the aforementioned random noise songs all I can say is whilst some people may enjoy it I cannot see the appeal of this band in the slightest To listen to this whole album has took extreme patience on my part and a lot of the time I couldn t put it on because of how it makes me feel I ve been and checked out some of their older songs to see if this is a different edge for them or whether or not it s been a common theme throughout their career
