catchy best the chorus is huge and the choir based backing vocals add something good to the overall sound the lyrics here are heavily political themed The title track The Bright Lights Of America starts off with guitar riffs that sound like they were lifted from a Social Distortion song the overall sound and feel to the song is fast and catchy One of the best tracks on the album is Vices the song sounds totally different from anything else on the album and is the least poppy song on the album but is lyrically quite repetitive but their is something about the song that really makes it stand out The Modern Rome Is Burning is a kick arse song about how America is set up for its own downfall it starts off as a fast paced poppy punk song where the strong sounding bass lines stand out so well the song however has an epic outro with slow lyrics of This is the modern Rome burning let it burn this is the modern Rome burning let it burn let it burn and before you know it the vocals pick up with frontman Justin Sane shouting This is New York burning this is Boston burning this is Washington burning this is Pittsburg burning this is Birmingham burning This should be the Anti Flag song that Anti Flag haters should hear as it may just swing them round As I said previously there are a few fillers on The Bright Lights Of America and they mainly come in during the middle part of the album We Are The Lost is the song which has nothing special going for it Go West is another filler and is a really toned down song that never really gets going Don t let the fillers

a loud catchy riff before the rest of the band come in The bands new single The Press Corpse is one of the most catchiest songs on the album and is classic Anti Flag clear and loud with memorable sing a long lyrics One of my favourite songs on this album is the awesome ballad One Trillion Dollars The song is very mellow and it allows frontman Justin Sane s vocals shine State Funeral starts off pretty slow but quickly speeds up as the lyrics this is the sound of a dropping bomb come in The chorus is also fast but simple War Sucks Let s Party sounds a lot different from anything else on the album very catchy and a song you will find yourself jumping about to The album finishes with Depleted Uranium Is A War Crime which is quite a raw sounding song and a good finish to the album I have to admit I had to listen to this album quite a few times before it grew on me Overall it is a good album its what you would expect from Anti Flag just a little more poppier in places 4 5 Review by Trigger Band

comparison with Queens of the Stone Age but then went on to describe them as Part rock part folk part otherworldly Big riffs combined with whistling flute violin and shredding slide guitar a strange combination of assorted music styles right There s what I meant so now let me tell you what I think we have here If You Can t Beat Them Try Solvents I feel would best be described as the music that could accompany one of those funfair ride s that everyone rides as a kid except a bit demented Maybe if the people who created the ride we re on crack and made quite it quite creepy then this track would represent that It s mostly due to the strange upbeat vocals on top of the mess of distortion and random squeaky riffs Buddhist Soup is the same with the exception that this one is better classed as more like the Disney World version of it I say this due to the Snow White like dwarf whistling in the middle of it which makes this track that little bit stranger and the fact its slightly better The others aren t quite fitting with the crazy carnival comparison but they are the same trippy squeaky riffs layered over messy distortion and strange vocal work Outrages 1 ta 3 is a bit slower and annoyingly repetitive in all honesty a more attempt at a more sinister feel here Same with album closer Platoono of Uno but in this case it feels like I m supposed to be marching in a drug legislation parade with the stops and drum line throughout the song There we are then I ve explained the release in my view I will once again say this is bloody weird Not something I will be

please the majority of rock fans whilst the delicate orchestral sounds adds more to the randomness and the Jonathon Davies style spooky vocals are just spot on The B side to the single is a cover of Sugar Sugar and what Antlered Man have managed to do hear is to turn this sweet and innocent pop tune into a full on distorted rock anthem it is big sounding and extremely

heads and is the album which fans expect to hear the most tracks from on the live circuit and this has been the case for over 23 years now For anyone who has never heard Among The Living the album is solid throughout but the best track featured on the album has to be the opening track Among The Living which the album is actually named after the song opens with such a powerful jamming session which starts off slow but quickly speeds up into thrash metal madness which leaves you bashing your head like a nutter to the massive sound of the song the song features some of the best metal drumming ever it may sound slightly tinny but production back in 1987 was not quite like how it is today the chorus is also great with lines of I am the walking dude I can see all of the world twist you mind with fear I m the man with the power among the living follow me or die Caught In A Mosh is another great fast paced song which features fast guitar riffs fast drum beats as well as fast vocals pretty much everything that Anthrax do here is fast and furious and so damn listenable especially the solid sounding guitar solo I Am The Law is another classic moment and a big old fan favourite and it is so easy to see why as everything is in place so perfectly and equally hit s off that heavy vibe especially with the raw chant a long vocals Indians is another great song which opens with a massive instrumental piece Everyone knows that the album Among The Living is a classic release that needs to be in everyone s collection but what about the exclusive DVD included well

Like a sophisticated Air Traffic esque group but with a dash of U2 Thankfully though this song has just enough U2 to make it well written but not enough to encourage suicide A beautiful guitar lick aches its way out of the silence and meats hart hitting rhythmic brilliance which soon works it s way down to gentle chorus all a build up to a momentous chorus that you ll be hard pushed to get out of your hear for a number of days It s your regular inoffensive alternative light rock indie blend that gets my juices flowing and will never grow old Set to be a timeless classic with any hope just listening to it now I can t obviously tell it s brand new Oh I love it Hooray It really does tick all the boxes follows all the formulas and applies the rules of perfect song written It s flawless besides the fact that it completely outdoes everything this band has done otherwise as proven by the B side Peaks Troughs which is altogether more like The Calling minus the fun of singing along to Going nowhere your finger is just itching to skip back to

version Where would this record go Thankfully track two 21g was at hand to help Nothing noticable scrap that let s bypass to Peaks Troughs I do like a song with a simple acoustic beginning I m sad to announce that the initial excitement and brilliance that glimmered and showed such promise in the opening track has all but faded There are occasional nice little chord progressions or rhythmic choices but all in all it s your average alternative band Melodic and well tuned and all but lacking the va va voom which is so important in new bands Also the tracks are getting slower and slower I m wondering if the final track will be in reverse Every music reviewer s nightmare and I m sure everyone would feel bad doing it but labelling a band as a bit too U2 for my liking or even this will be the Feeling in a year or two sometimes just has to be done And this is one of those times It s not bad or offensive it s just a bit boring If you went to the pub and these guys happened to be playing you d leave thinking it

get off the mark and make a big impression as the pace and feel of the song feel the same throughout it is very listenable but there are no stand out moments and ends up sounding a bit mediocre in the end The main B side to the single is Lost and I really feel that this song should have been lost as soon as it was written and or recorded as it is just to soft and whiney sounding and I don t think I would be able to find a positive thing about it even if I had a shotgun held to my head right now The third and final track featured on the single is Reel Me In is a big surprise as it is actually fantastic it features upbeat sounding piano noises beautifully flowing vocals which become more upbeat as the song progresses in fact the song is so beautiful sounding that I could listen to it over and over again and not get bored I feel the new Aqualung album is going to be a bit of a hit or miss release especially if this single release compilation is anything to go by let s
