hit an miss sometimes but i didn t like them at first but they ve grown on me the drumming is simple steady and provides a good beat the tracks sometimes drag on a bit sometimes the tracks don t really go anywhere there are guest guitarists doing the solos which fit well into the tracks that their on the album is a bit plain at times and some of the things attempted don t seem to sit right perhaps that s the point I cant really say if i like this album or not its kinda 50 50 but there s nothing on here that will sway me either way there s not much i like and there s not much i dont like bit of a i can put it on and just ignore it as there s nothing really on here that grabs my attention Certainties and Doubts is out now 3 5 Review by Robert Lawrence Band Members Coming Soon Track Listing 1 Robbed Stripped and Glad About It 2 Psychomath 3 Steal Me Some Luck 4 Once the Tip of the Spear 5 Stay Up and Talk To Me All Night 6 Bitacora Club 7

stylistic choices from all 3 pushing through the fact though that they are still a metalcore band The consistency of the extraordinary sound these guys produce throughout their career is nothing short of outstanding and this is coming from a guy who wouldn t have gone anywhere near them a few years ago I mean Broken Cross is just a back and forth almost split personality like track that is just so beautiful crafted alongside the absolutely diamond that is Gravedigger that starts off gorgeous before throwing a massive shock to the system I think that is Architects all over as some acts love to blend sections into each other whereas these guys would rather stir the pot and throw in sudden drops to shock I find when they drop the tone during a song which is a fair bit it reignites the aggression Then you have songs like The Devil Is Near and Naysayer which are pure beasts from start to end with all the spectrums in between All in all the great CD count goes up and everybody is a winner here Honestly I m more impressed with their back catalogue on a whole as it paints a

you cannot help but sing along to Then there s These Colours Don t Run which is a complete beast high octane aggression thick riffs mixed among twangy fillers and what an ending as well once the song hits 3 11 the whole thing just drops into a really dirty breakdown seeing out the remainder of the song Even If You Win You re Still a Rat encompasses a similar layout They ve kept up their heavier side to please the hardcore fans but it s songs like Truth Be Told and Unbeliever that I think will stir the most backlash from the more veteran of the bands fan base as it s a lot more gentle than anything we ve been used to hearing from the lads before beautiful as it may be and I personally enjoy it but it was definitely a risky move I only got into the band when they released Hollow Crown and I thought that album was a complete beast that s why when I back tracked through their past stuff and saw it was all in the same vein I was expecting follow up s to try and push that style even further but instead it would appear they instead wanting to tone it back a bit perhaps not to ruin the style in which they can come back to in years to come when they ve figured out where to go with it I hope it s that and not the beginning of a sell out move because we ve had enough bands go down that road in recent times whilst I like The Here and Now and even more so this latest output this was never the band that they set out to be One thing I can give them kudos

to Ravenous then Blood on your hands you will see what I mean However I am glad Angela stopped using effects on her voice because her voice is definitely better natural more aggressive and impressive So let s give them their chance to win me back over to their side then shall we After a couple plays you can see the vast range of different material they ve pieces together here from extremely heavy death metal to having big melodic songs to add depth and variation thought the record Under Black Flags We March is a refreshing song as they ve gone back to writing the way they did on older albums but slotting in technical parts which does enhance the sound Cult of Chaos has everything it s quick and riffy in some parts slow and extremely heavy in others then melodic in some sections They dot instrumentals around the album and they flow into the songs following them almost as an introduction which is a good idea and they are only a minute or so long so they don t drag on either A few of the songs have melodic guitar work with heavy vocals and rhythm work accompanying them which is great and typical arch enemy fashion Secrets and No Gods No Masters are the best examples of this Yesterday Is Dead And Gone Bloodstained Cross and City of the Dead are all on the newer style of Arch Enemy with songs like Nemesis and Blood on your Hands a lot of technicality with the music and an extremely fast pace for fans of the quick metal I d definitely recommend these songs they re terrific On the whole then they ve won me back with this release I recon The variation and the extensive range of

another fast punk tune that s done loud fast and proud On Other Entertainers the drumming is pure quality The whole album is full of great songs that you just cant fault but Armalite are far from being the next best thing for the fact the band members have so many different bands and commitments Overall not bad for four friends who want to write and play songs because its

walks past his grave starts to feel lonely and begins to regret what he s done Moving on Awkward Last Words explains how the guy starts to beg for his life back I wanna live again I wanna start everything over again Then we have Stay On The Ground which is probably my favourite track on this album It features Ben Jorgensen at his best with angry screams of get it get it get it right Ok I could go on and talk you through the rest of the tracks but im not going to do that However the album finisher The End of a Fraud which is one of the quietier tracks on the album features some quite stunning vocals by Jana Pompa and completes the story with lyrics of I m leaving again for the second time around Overall the concept album has worked really well here and each song sounds different The story is told really well and not only is this album great musically but the album s insert is one of the coolest I ve seen It shows photos that go along with the story and theres also a Comprehensive Guide To Your Afterlife booklet

Milkshake the song is a bit of pop punk for the indie masses its fast it s furious and it s without a doubt very random how often do you hear lyrics such as DC Comics And Chocolate Milkshake Even Know I m 28 yes the lyrics are great in a very random but that s what adds to the whole excitement about Art Brut and also the way Eddie Argos delivers the lyrics with his distinctive vocals The B side Weird Science is a geeky song about science fiction drinking and eating crisps and features more random lyrics such as I spent all night licking my lips I need another packet of crisps the song is good but no way near as good as the main single Art Brut are one of the most energetic indie bands in England who like to have a laugh I do feel that they are slightly underrated and should be bigger than what they are but when you re in a band that sings about really random things and have a set of vocals that stand out like a sore thumb then you are going to be a bit of a marmite band

issue is the delivery of these lyrics I mean for starters it s always sounds odd having spoken word over music with such a definate beat but the earlier albums seemed to just flow Whereas here nearly every song just doesn t quite work I m fairly sure that s my main quibble anyway And I might just be being pedantic but the words in the booklet are often different to the words sung In fact there are a kazillion errors I can t work out whether that s intentional or not We ll leave that one Other than that it s still Art Brut how they ve always been Simple yet amusing and altogether charming There s nothing ground breaking no epic solos or ball rattling riffs But I don t think Art Brut have ever tried to be any of those They re good fun They were and they always will be But yeah in comparison to other albums this isn t quite as good Twist and Shout is probably a personal favourite as well as the following track Summer Job mainly due to the fact the only noted issue is seemingly addressed But alas we re at
