album remind me again of the Beatles in there later stage of there career if the continued into the seventies with some Pink Floyd and Trex thrown in there for good measure its all a very excessive throwback to the 70s im a fan to say the least i think a vinyl version would slot well into my record collection This album seems to have been constructed from the best bits of the 70s some great classic rock guitar playing with some keyboards in there great drumming its all very big it even has the right sound to it it really could have come straight out of the 70s Stand out tracks include the opener Gravest show on earth Blackball both are lengthy tracks but you don t tire of them In opinion there isnt a bad track on the album it just oozes awesomeness Money is pure evil could have been released by black sabbath you can pick any track and probably pick out the band that has influenced it Cheat The Gallows is out on the 7th of September 5 5 Review by Robert Lawrence Band Members Damon Fox Keyboard Vocals Ace Mark Guitar Duffy Snowhill Bass Froth

expect over the years Surprise Surprise lyrically tells the story of how people always find the need to follow the latest trend by ditching their baggy jeans for skinny jeans just because its deemed cool and trading there brand new phone for another one a month down the line just because it is the next must have gadget vocally Kowalewicz executes these lyrics with perfection and within seconds you will find yourself humming along and before the song comes to a close you will not only find yourself singing along but also agreeing with the lyrics Runnin Across The Tracks reminds me of early Billy Talent material back from the days of Billy Talent 1 but with a lot more umph and aggression thrown in for good measures the song runs at a cracking pace and features some good technical instrumental working towards the end Love Was Still Around revolves around the stunning and solid sounding bass lines which Jon Gallant cracks out throughout and in general the song sounds a lot different from previous Billy Talent material in the way that instrumentally they are trying out different techniques whilst Kowalewicz vocals also come off sounding slightly different Stand Up And Run see s Billy Talent go down the ballad route whilst they take a few minutes to tone things down and generally chill out the song tells the story of how you never know how good something is until its gone and then you do your best to get it back Crooked Minds and Man Alive are some of the strongest sounding tracks on the album Crooked Minds features Kowalewicz letting out some mad yelps whilst revisiting the sound of Billy Talent 1 whilst Man Alive is a big sounding track which has a mix of everything from aggression

bar has been raised by everyone involved Where BT1 was full of youthful anger BT2 had calmed down a bit and finally here at BT3 the band have levelled off into well rounded fantasticism There s still the recognisable Billy Talent tone musically but everything has been scrubbed up the scrappy raw edges nicely polished and all the bits that made your parents want to unplug your stereo have been omitted Even the vocals have transformed from the youthful squeaks of an angry Ben Kowalewicz to these cleaner user friendly tones The album opens with Devil On My Shoulder a personal favourite from the album which features considerably more groove than any Billy Talent song I ve heard before The funky feeling continues although in a slightly lesser quantity over the two singles already released from the album Rusted From The Rain and Turn Your Back which features the vocals of Anti Flag Although a few songs draw on riffs and breaks from previous Billy Talent releases the album does sound new and original If you re looking for a blast from the past reliving the intense energetic Billy Talent blasts then you ll probably have to look elsewhere But for a well rounded release that still packs a punch here and there and can be celebrated from start to finish for its song writing and general brilliance then get involved Get heavily involved White Sparrows is another corker as is Diamond Into The Landmine whose verse sounds surprisingly Roxanne but that s another story altogether This album is very good Very good indeed Be sure to catch Billy Talent headlining the Lock Up Stage at Reading Leeds 2009 along with Anti Flag and Alexisonfire If this is your cup of tea and the Lock Up Stage is one ferocious

months ago on MySpace and since then we ve been waiting for it s release However when it was shock horror it s been changed It s been mastered obviously and the sound is a lot fuller but they ve chopped and changed the order changed words and removed some sections altogether That doesn t stop it being fantastic it just so happens that the original mix was worth 6 out of 5 The song starts with an awesome fuzzy bass riff and then it flies into the full band riff with a scream from the vocalist Catchy vocals run throughout the song and work well with the fast paced backing Billy Talent have seemingly progressed in leaps and bounds since their earlier album in terms of both ability and song quality There was something amazing still buried within their old raw material and despite tidying it all up they have still retained it making them one of the most promising bands ever to leave Canada Look forward to the release of the album Billy Talent II on June 26th 5 5 Review by Thom Band Members Benjamin Kowalewicz vocals Ian D Sa guitar Jon Gallant bass Aaron Solowoniuk drums

5 weeks away but in the meantime they have set June 29th as the release date of their new single Rusted From The Rain and I have to say it has been worth waiting every single second to hear the song as it is fantastic Rusted From The Rain has that trademark Billy Talent feel about it thanks to the unique stand out vocals from front man Ben Kowalewicz seriously the man only has to open his mouth for a second and you instantly know that you are listening to Billy Talent he has one of the most stand out set of vocals in rock music today Anyway the song features a really bouncy bassline crunching guitar riffs a guitar hero style guitar solo and that overall polished up Billy Talent radio friendly feel Billy Talent never let us down when it comes to single releases and new material Rusted From The Rain may not be as good as some of their previous singles such as Devil In a Midnight Mass Fallen Leaves and Try Honesty but it is still a strong sounding track and will become a classic must hear Billy Talent song in the near future 4 5

Suicide Girl which will be released on the bands own record label Blacklustre Records Suicide Girl opens up with some constant drumming the dual guitars and bass come in a few seconds after and front woman Katee Dewolfe s vocals soon come in everything seems well in place and the highlight of the song is the chorus with Katees whispery vocals sounding quite spooky and haunting The b side to the single is the bands name Bi Polar baby Katees vocals start off quite uplifting with minimal backing music and then suddenly the bass comes in with a memorable bass line and it s not long before the guitars fire in and everything becomes that little bit more upbeat There are some great guitar riffs and bass lines on offer throughout the song and the song is catchier than the main single release which is quite odd If your after fast catchy songs with beautiful sounding female vocals mixed with breathtaking rocking guitar solo s that leave you leaping across your room like a mad man giving you best air guitar impression then look no further than Bi Polar Baby as they know how to rock whilst maintaining poppyness 4

moments which come and go far too quickly Upon This Dawning proper mix things up with their cover of Caly Rae Jepson s Call Me Maybe the song opens up sounding so much like the original and then suddenly about 10 seconds in the song turns into a synth driven screamo masterpiece which see s Upon This Dawning do everything they possibly can to make the song sound different from the original We Came As Romans take on the task of covering The Wanted s Glad You Came and they stay quite true to the original version of the song but up the ante when it comes to the vocals as for the majority of the song the vocals sound as poppy as ever but just at the right time We Came As Romans scream out The universe will never be the same I m glad you came in full ball breaking force and from this moment the song twists and turns through pop screamo territory for the next minute or so Breathe Carolina cover Michael Jacksons Billie Jean but it seems that Breathe Carolina have taken on a mammoth task that they can t quite get to succeed as they try to hard with special effects on their vocals and pointless synths which do nothing to improve an already classic song Forever The Sickest Kids do a great job of covering Rihanna s We Found Love as The Maine covering Cyndi Laupers Girls Just Want To Have Fun whilst Craig Owen s cover of Coldplay s Paradise is so close sounding to the original but you can t help but full in love with Owen s vocals as he sings his heart out I really can t see Punk Goes Pop Volume 5 being everyone s thing but if

I have been missing straight away Ok above I said The Birthday Massacre are quite an original band well there are but you can clearly see moments of Mindless Self Indulgence Nightwish Lacuna Coil and a few other bands within their sound but only in the way that there are some electronics in place like Mindless Self Indulgence have and the front person is a lady who has a beautiful voice like the vocalists of both Nightwish and Lacuna Coil have but don t forget The Birthday Massacre have been around for ten years they aren t one of these new bands who try and copy every band around trying to dominate the in scene So Show And Tell is kind of like a greatest hits and live album mixed into one it features songs from all of their studio albums and is a perfect start for anyone who has never come across The Birthday Massacre before and from what I can see The Birthday Massacre have a stunning back catalogue of songs as everything about this live album manages to please me The album starts with Before Dark which is a musical introduction which features many different electronics and soundscapes whilst the fans are screaming their lungs out as there heroes take to the stage the song runs straight through into Video Kid where front lady Chibi greets the crowd with Hello everyone before going on a melodic journey with her strong vocals the song is full of energy and crammed with electronic synths and pop Goth rock sounds as soon as the song finishes Chibi thanks the crowd in German saying Danke Shurn and then returns to talking in English which I find quite amusing Lovers End is a very big sounding song it starts off quite spooky
