one would suppose is the charm of it The nostalgic ragged vocals float over speaker hiss microphone clipping and a guitar that sounds like it s been recorded off of an low wave radio station That said no matter how much you develop your sound and its charm that doesn t instantly mean you can write fifteen exciting songs And thus the downfall It s not bad don t get me wrong but there s nothing leaping out of my speakers and captivating me like some other records I ve heard recently Imagine a video montage if you will of the youth of the sixties sitting around in parks and losing themselves in everything around them This album would fit perfectly as the soundtrack to that Summer you re envisaging But now unless every day you wake wishing you were born in the sixties I can t see this tickling your pickle It s not enthralling enough to consciously listen to yet the texture is too thick for it to pass as background music This is a real marmite album You can decide for yourself 3 5 Review by Thom Band Members Cole Jared Ian Joe King Khan Track Listing

single Short Fuse first and on the 9th March and I have a really mixed opinion on the song it s quite upbeat and catchy and has quite a psychedelic feel about it in fact the more I think about the song the crazier I actually think it is Black Lips really aren t a band for me don t get me wrong short Fuse is a really spiny song

fast paced drum beats to the quirky guitar riffs feature so much groove and super charged alternative sound that you can t help but appreciate the style of Black Mountain and the male lead vocals and female backing vocals add diversity to the song and once again work very well If you like simple but stylish alternative rock music then you will love this offering from Black Mountain and if

only getting an UK release and that is because Black Sabbath are handled by other record companies across the world and this release is more aimed at new fans who are attending the forthcoming UK shows Now Iron Man The Best Of Black Sabbath features exactly the same track listing as the bands previous best of album but that album is now being withdrawn from sale with the new compilation replacing it if you already own the original greatest hits then I would bother wasting your money on the same tracks with a slightly different bit of artwork but if you are yet to own a Black Sabbath greatest hits album or don t know where to start when it comes to Black Sabbath then seriously snap this up as it has all the great songs from Paranoid War Pigs Iron Man The Wizard Changes and many others Overall Iron Man The Best Of Black Sabbath is a blatant cash in from the record label who hope fans will snap it up in their thousands on the back of the comeback shows but musically it is solid sounding and well worth the money if you don t own these classic

third album released by Black Sabbath in just over an year which is pretty impressive as these days it would take bands at least 5 years to release that many albums The album opens with Sweet Leaf which features some kind of coughing fit put on reverse before the well known Tony Iommi guitar riffs come in and then Ozzy s unique vocals seconds later the guitar riffs from Tony Iommi are slow yet really heavy and constant even the bass lines from Geezer Butler had a dark yet bouncy feel about them After Forever is the most upbeat song on the album it starts off with a massive jamming session but surprisingly the darkness seems to be left behind as the band take an upbeat catchy approach with their fast paced instrumental work even Ozzy s vocals come along faster and more free flowing Embyro is a short 28 seconds solo from Tony Iommi and it is well worth a listen and it is such a cheerful solo that no band can manage to capture these days Children OF The Grave is a classic dark Black Sabbath anthem that features such a strong introduction with Tony Iommi s impressive guitar work in fact the good thing about Black Sabbath is that each band member has their own unique sound and style that runs through pretty much every song that they have ever made but at the same time the songs sound different now that is a skill that the guys in Black Sabbath should be proud of Once again if you don t own Master Of Reality now is your chance to get a classic piece of rock history and I would recommended it just to hear the amazing guitar work from Tony Iommi seriously if his work doesn

is a classic album from start to finish it only features 7 tracks which in this day and age would be classed as an EP or mini album but back in 70 s that was classed as a work of art The album starts with the self titled track and it is one hell of a dark spooky tune the song is played at a really slow tempo with really chilled out guitar riffs coming and going whilst Oozy s vocals sound as strong as they do to this day but are much darker and come across at a slower pace the last minute of the track everything picks up with a massive guitar solo from Tony Iommi taking centre stage and rocking out to the very last seconds of the track Ozzy Osbourne opens up The Wizard playing on the harmonica and he plays it with style and passion seconds later Tony Iommi comes in with his rip roaring guitar riffs and he has a battle with Ozzy as they both play their instruments with passion The Wizard is a song that was written about Gandalf from The Lord Of The Rings There are so many good moments on the debut Black Sabbath album songs like N IB will have you dancing along as it has so much groove Evil Woman Don t Play Your Games will leave you doing your best air guitar impression whilst Warning will take your breath away with its 10 minutes of progressive rock The bonus disc included on the album is a good idea but in all reality will only be something that the hardcore Black Sabbath fans will find interesting the demos and various unreleased songs are in no interest of me and I am sure many others feel the same Overall

tracks from across the bands first eight albums which includes four tracks from Paranoid two tracks from Volume 4 one track from Never Say Die two tracks from Master Of Reality four tracks from Black Sabbath and one tracks from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in all honesty the collection is the true Black Sabbath CD for someone who has always wanted to get into Black Sabbath but didn t know where to start you can t go wrong here and it will be the only Black Sabbath CD you will ever need to buy The Best Of starts with Paranoid one of the most loved Black Sabbath songs ever it s hard to believe how good the song sounds considering that it is now 39 years old it is still as listenable and loveable as it was all those years ago it s the kind of you need to blast out of your stereo as loud as you can and practice your air guitaring skills in the comfort of your own bedroom Other classic songs on the album are the rifftastic Iron Man the big experimental tracks that are The Wizard and Black Sabbath the lengthy masterpiece that is War Pigs and also the original version of Changes everyone best knows the song these days for when it topped the charts in 2003 when Ozzy Osbourne and Kelly Osbourne re recorded it for an Christmas single the original version is a bit slower than the re release but in my opinion and many other Black Sabbath fan s opinion it is a much better version There isn t really much I can say about The Best Of Black Sabbath that you don t already know the album is exactly what it says on the cover a collection of some of the

can t see them making much use of the bonus discs For people that have heard Paranoid is its 39 years of existence then you will already know that the album is a work of art and a 5 star release so with all these extras bundled on then the release is that little bit better it s just a shame that we don t go up to 6 stars here at Alternative Vision as this release would get it without a doubt You must remember those meaty guitar riffs and power chords from Tony Iommi if you don t just listen to the opening track War Pigs all the way through it s a masterpiece the song runs for 8minutes well minus a couple of seconds anyway the opening of the track is huge with the guitar riffs Ozzy s unique stand out vocals and the rock solid drumming but what really brings the song to life is the power chords and guitar solo towards the middle of the song it is proper mouth watering stuff and guitar playing of the highest standard The title track Paranoid is one of the most known Black Sabbath songs it is also one of the shortest running tracks by the band running for just under 3 minutes however the song has a real special feel about it Ozzy s vocals sound perfect the way they just flow along really smooth and fast and everything about the song just fits together all so well The Deluxe version of the album does come with 3 CD s the first one being the original album the second CD being the 1974 Quadrophonic Mix of the album which features a few instrumental versions of songs on the album and versions with slightly different lyrics and the
