s a mixture of sings and screams come crashing towards you is proper bonkers yet it works so well and opens the album with an almighty bang Magnolia Blvd is just as fast paced and bonkers as the opening track and features so much going on at once that I am sure it will leave your head in a slight spin as you take in the machine gun style instrumental work and once again the duel vocals from Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepherd are huge and comes across like a massive battle C8H18 Gasoline is a big scream a long affair which packs an almighty punch Grim Sleeper starts off in a real mellow way but seconds later the song explodes into mayhem as the brutal sounds of the Butcher Babies really shine out loud The album title track Goliath has some of the best instrumental work featured Whilst the album closer Axe Wound starts off with acoustic guitar sounds before going down a shock rock route full of screams chants and heavy metal goodness The great thing about the Butcher Babies are that they are split into two parts you have Jason Klein on bass Henry Flury on guitar and Chrissy Warner on drums who bring out the amazingly brutal instrumental work throughout the album where things do seriously get heavy and technical in places and then you have Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey on vocals who are a double act not to be messed with as Heidi Shepherd is one ballsy front lady who seriously knows how to scream whilst Carla Harvey provides the more clean cut singing and as a whole the five piece really have mastered the art of creating big in your face aggressive music which is equally as pleasing on the ears With Goliath

and from start to finish the band have you wrapped around their little fingers as they seriously rock their way through the song with sheer passion and energy in a big radio friendly infectious way as you can t help but hum and tap along to it during the first listen and sing a long word for word after the second or third listen once the infectious lyrics are lodged into your brain From The Start is more toned down and bluesy rock sounding and reminds me slightly of American blues rockers Black Stone Cherry the song is full of solid rhythms and punchy beats whilst vocalist Peter Comerford really sings his heart out Wake Up is right up there with the opening track Favourite sin as one of the best tracks on the EP the instrumental arrangements are fantastic as the band lay down various different guitar riffs and catchy tones throughout the song and once again the song reminds me of a big American rock band but this time around it is Alter Bridge everything from the instrumental work right through to the vocals are executed with excellence Sacrifice see s the band go down the acoustic route and it is a good offering as it shows another side of the band and once again the vocals from Peter Comerford are just outstanding Closing the EP is an original edit of the opening track Favourite Sin the song is extended and uncut and proves a good close to the EP as Favourite Sin really does have the feel of a song you will want to listen to over and over again and having it open and close the album saves you reaching for the repeat button It is clear to see that Cage The Gods are on the

up of gentle and aggressive tones they ve just really boosted their technique arsenal adding some that really push through a clearer drop dead metal sound So now my interest has been tickled once more is the momentum going to push forward into 2014 Beautifully if I don t say so myself Album opener King has exactly what I was hoping for crunchy tone electronic vibe ominous atmosphere with a retention of melody and rhythm that they always brought forth with their metalcore edge I like the fact they seem to be taking a huge influence from the latest movement in djent writing they adapt some techniques that fit to their sound without completely rearranging the formula They still have those songs that tie them to their younger years like I Am Rebellion and I Am Ghost which even still are peppered with a rejuvenated sound that simply oozes musical growth and maturity in ways of which I have only encountered on a very limited amount of occasions Chaos Creation and yOUR Song are 2 of the ones alongside the opener that really epitomise what I was looking for from this album going on what I was hearing on the previous they ve really got this sound down now with the mixture of melodic yet gritty chorus lines that can be severed in the blink of an eye by enormous bass drops and aggressive tempo changes I ve praised this thing through the roof with just cause may I add because it truly is a fantastic piece of work the problem I can see the band facing now is that they know what they re doing much like they did before when they reached the peak of their style is how do you possibly follow that up Risk putting out

only does receiving this record prove to me that the band are still going after having a listen to me it shows the band are kicking more ass than ever before and have found a set of balls The last time I was listening to the band they were following the metalcore scene on its downfall they used to have a not generic but followed the general universal metalcore structure of mildly chunky riffs with an even split of growling and clean vocal lines but it started to get to a point where I found it boring thankfully for me they seem to have strayed away from that standard path and took a risk in following their own experimental urges and I must say it sounds fucking evil We Are The Many is the records opening track 10 seconds in I find myself jaw dropped and staring at my screen with nothing less than sheer shock they ve been hiding this side of themselves from us for how many years now The thickest high octane aggressive evil sounding riff backed by some seriously menacing tones The Memorial ties their older material and style into it with the way it s structured the verses are still evil with thick riffs and menacing tones the chorus however brings back the clean vocals back with less menacing tones it s their old style matured off the charts This new use of electronic techniques and round up of stylistic inclusions across the many branches of metal have given them a distinctive edge songs like Dein R3Ich and Davey Jones are songs that have rekindled both my love and faith in this band and with the latest announcement that they will be supporting Trivium and As I Lay Dying on their tour later on in

know what you are getting when it comes to their albums you just know it s going to be fast paced and raw sounding with extreme chunky guitar riffs blistering drums beats and a set of ferocious hardcore vocals from front man Liam Cormier yet each album the Cancer Bats have released still manages to sound slightly different from the last with Dead Set On Living continuing that routine The album opens with R A T S and the song comes at you like the Tasmanian devil on speed its mentally fast and extremely raw sounding yet also features a few progressive instrumental moments between the hectic roars the lyrics are dark with Cormier reeling them off in the rawest of ways Bricks And Mortar is a beast of a song as the band are jamming around making as much noise as possible you can almost picture Cormier onstage screaming his lungs out to the raw paced vocals the song features Breathe Armageddon and Bastards are both beastly tracks which stand out in their own way Breather Armageddon has Cormier singing about the world burning and no one surviving over some amazingly heavy guitar riffs whilst Bastards is a full on brutal assault which is bound to batter your ears in a loving way Dead Set On Living features 11 tracks and runs for just under 40minutes and there is not a dull moment throughout as the Cancer Bats manage to maintain the aggression and raw sounds that we have all grown to love throughout the years throughout the album The thing that first got me interested in the Cancer Bats was how they managed to mix metal punk and hardcore together and come up with a beast of a sound which is unlike any other band that has tried

album opens up with the title track Hail Destroyer and the heavy punchy riff that opens the song sets the pace for the next 30 minutes Hail Destroyer is an outstanding song and Liam Cormier s vocals sound rawer here than on the bands previous outing the riffs are proper huge and in your face Harem Of Scorpions has quite a melodic introduction but as soon as Liam s vocals kick in the chances of a melodic song are washed out of the way as his fast shouty vocals take over treating us to another heavy masterpiece Things take a slight change for the introduction of Deathsmarch the song opens up with your average drumming and before long the guitars come in sounding big and before you know it Liam s vocals come in but not quite like you would expect the vocals are more sing a long and more understandable until the song reaches its peak for the aggressive shouted chorus The whole of Hail Destroyer is really listenable its one of them rare albums where there is not a dull moment in sight each song is good in its own way and the heavy riffs and shouty vocals is enough to make anyone bounce off their bedroom walls It s hard to pick a favourite song from Hail Destroyer as every song really is that good however my favourite moments from the album so far has to be the rocking Lucifer s Rocking Chair which simply has some great guitar solo s and proper in your face vocals and my other favourite moment has to be Pray For Darkness the song is completely mental has a lot going on and is extremely heavy Liam s vocals are faster than ever the guitars are big and heavy and the

is totally huge and catchy and one of the loudest energetic releases I have heard in a long time Opening track Golden Tanks starts with a huge riff and soon after vocalist Liam Cormier s old school punk style shouting vocals come in and from this moment the album just gets better as all eleven tracks are faultless French Immersion is a catchy song that is totally full of attitude The first five tracks on the album sound pretty similar in sound and then things get toned down a little bit for track six Death Bros which is a rocking song then things pick up in pace again all the way until the album finishes with Pneumonia Hawk which has some of the best riffs on the album and simply leaves you wanting more The great thing about this bands sound is Liam Cormier s vocals as they are right in your face old school punk vocals and mixed with a mixture of heavy riffs you seriously can t go wrong I can see the Cancer Bats causing a storm in 2007 when they bring their stunning live show to the UK which will be one not to be missed

is a massive sounding song that features all the elements of a dance floor filler and in my eyes it seems that Canterbury are here to fill that catchy dance floor filling pop punk gap that Fall Out Boy created when they departed from the music scene a few years back the song is short in length but big in sound and happiness With a sold out headline tour just
