  • risk if the carer falls ill are a frontline health or social care worker see below If you are the parent of a child who is over six months old and has a long term condition on the list below speak to your GP about the flu vaccine Your child s condition may get worse if they catch flu Pregnant women It is recommended that all pregnant women should have the flu vaccine whatever stage of pregnancy they re in This is because there is good evidence that pregnant women have an increased risk of developing complications if they get flu particularly from the H1N1 strain Studies have shown that the flu vaccine can be safely and effectively given during any trimester of pregnancy The vaccine does not carry risks for either the mother or baby In fact studies have shown that mothers who have had the vaccine while pregnant pass some protection to their babies which lasts for the first few months of their lives People with medical conditions The flu vaccine is offered free to anyone who is over six months of age and has one of the following medical conditions chronic long term respiratory disease such as severe asthma COPD or bronchitis chronic heart disease such as heart failure chronic kidney disease at stage three four or five chronic liver disease such as hepatitis chronic neurological disease such as a stroke TIA or post polio syndrome diabetes a weakened immune system due to conditions such as HIV or treatments that suppress the immune system such as chemotherapy If you live with someone who has a weakened immune system you may also be able to have a flu vaccine Speak to your GP about this Frontline health or social care workers Employers are responsible for ensuring that arrangements are in place for frontline healthcare staff to have the flu vaccine Outbreaks of flu can occur in health and social care settings and staff patients and residents are at risk of infection Frontline health and social care staff should protect themselves by having the flu vaccine to prevent the spread of flu to colleagues and other members of the community If you care for someone who is elderly or disabled speak to your GP about getting vaccinated against seasonal flu You should also ensure that the person you care for has the flu jab Children An annual nasal spray flu vaccine will be offered to all children aged two three or four years on 1 September 2014 as part of the NHS childhood vaccination programme It will also be offered to children aged 2 18 with long term health conditions like diabetes heart disease and lung disease Children aged six months to 2 years with long term health conditions aren t able to have the nasal spray and will get the injected flu vaccine instead Who should not have the flu vaccination You should not have the flu vaccine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a

    year report sent to NHS England can be read by clicking here PATIENT INVOLVEMENT IN HEALTHCARE REFORMS A common theme in healthcare reform over recent years has been the involvement of patients seeking opinion and gaining feedback from the users of the various sectors of the NHS and shaping services accordingly During the current year there has been more specific encouragement for GP Surgeries to engage with their patients and publicise the results of that process on Practice Websites The Arthur Medical Centre has benefited from a dialogue with our Patient Participation Group PPG for over 6 years and during that time related information has been posted on our website So in many ways we are already set up for the current requirements However whilst we have a PPG Committee of around 12 patients who meet regularly we do need feedback from more patients and also from a wider range of ages and backgrounds to truly represent opinion from all quarters We are therefore in the process of setting up a Patient Reference Group to supplement the work of the PPG Committee What is a Patient Reference Group It is a group of patients that have put their names forward as being available to respond to questionnaires sent out by the practice from time to time and who are willing to provide comments and suggestions whenever they wish How do members communicate with the Practice Communication is via email or post Although there is no requirement to attend regular meetings members might be invited to specific meetings on service developments and changes Attendance to such meetings is voluntary What is the format of questionnaires and how often are they sent The wording of questionnaires will be devised by the Arthur Medical Centre in conjunction with the PPG and the aim

    address and telephone numbers Noticeboard Click here for more information to STAY WELL THIS WINTER Online services at Arthur Medical Using Systmonline you can book an appointment view your summary care record complete questionnaires change your contact details change your nominated pharmacy repeat prescriptions all via the internet from home work or on the move and in your own time day or night Download the app for your smartphones and tablets You can find out more about Systmonline and how to register for this service by calling into the surgery with two forms of identification one item from each of the following lists Personal ID Current passport photocard driving licence birth certificate etc AND Address ID Utility bill bank statement or council tax etc with your name address and dated within the last 6 months You will then be given your confidential login information All information that is sent to the Surgery via Systmonline is secure Your personal details are encrypted and protected using the highest standard internet security so it cannot be intercepted Only you and the surgery are able to see this information Further Statutory Notice We currently offer the facility for ordering your repeat prescriptions viewing allergies adverse reactions online This is via TPP SystmOne using our website www arthurmedicalcentre co uk If you do not already have a username and password for this system you will need to register for them either using our website or by calling into the practice to register in person The Arthur Medical Centre confirm that all systems are in place to allow patients to access booking appointments ordering repeat prescriptions view allergies and adverse reactions online Currently we are running a pilot with the Patient Participation Group of The Practice and w e are working closely with our clinical software
