to our area of orchard At one time orchards surrounded this house and most others in the Coly Valley and cider making was big business Part of the work of the AONB is to preserve local traditions and enhance the natural beauty of the landscape The designation covers the landscape scenery wildlife and cultural heritage within the AONB Much further back in Roman times there were productive vineyards in the area and as our climate gets warmer and the varieties of vines available increase it means that wine production is again viable We have 60 Triomphe vines a hardy red variety planted in 2006 and now producing good crops of grapes with which we have made our own wine with a particularly good crop in 2013 Apple Orchard Having cleared the area and planted new trees when we moved to Barritshayes we have an abundant crop of apples nearly every year which we either juice or make into cider A lot of the trees are traditional local varieties although not necessarily cider apples Cosy cottage in quiet surroundings with all amenities maybe a little small for 4 but ok for a couple Great outdoor space for the dog Proprietors friendly
