    and advanced flying skills and more Invaluable for post CP pilots Visiting Overseas Hang Gliding Paragliding Pilots please read this Events Competitions RSS e News The BHPA is a member of The The Royal Aero Club of the United Kingdom The BHPA is a member of The European Hang Gliding Paragliding Union Farnborough Airspace Update 3 Following the BGA s highlighting of the Farnborough ACP website s failure TAG have extended the consultation until 10 00am on Monday 12th May 2014 An announcement about this extension and the reasons behind it has been posted on the Tag Farnborough Airport website If you didn t or don t receive an e mail acknowledging your submission please resubmit it Posted 28 April 2014 Farnborough Airspace Update 2 There may have been problems with some on line responses submitted to the Farnborough consultation A particularly curious and tenacious member of Southdown Gliding Club has uncovered what might be a major issue with the technology that TAG are using to collect inputs to the ACP consultation He noticed that some of the members of his gliding club had received confirmation emails after they had submitted a response but others had not As he had not received an email response when he sent his own input to TAG he contacted TAG to ask whether or not they had received it and was told that nothing had come in from him on the day when he said he had sent it This raises the possibility that anyone who has submitted an input but has not received a confirmation email may not have their responses considered or counted The BGA are checking into this in more detail but wanted to flag the possibility of a problem straight away If you have submitted a response but not received an acknowledgement please send an email to farnborough gliding co uk so that the BGA can get an idea of how many people have been affected and take appropriate action on behalf of the GA Alliance Posted 17 April 2014 London Air Show It s all systems go for Green Dragons London Air Show on the late May bank holiday weekend May 24th 26th celebrating 40 years of training pilots There will be paragliding hang gliding paramotoring powered hang gliding and winching pilots will be able to free fly and demo a range of gliders and gear On the ground there will be a trade fair refreshments bouncy castles and other kids stuff plus talks and forums with flying personalities and industry figures Evening entertainments will include live music from Queen and Madness tribute acts Entry parking and camping is free to BHPA members and their families who register online on the London Airshow website before May 20th otherwise entry will cost 15 on the gate for the weekend Green Dragons North Downs base is just off the A22 leave the M25 at J6 For more info go to the Green Dragons website or Facebook Green Dragons Updated 29 April

    please read this Events Competitions RSS e News The BHPA is a member of The The Royal Aero Club of the United Kingdom The BHPA is a member of The European Hang Gliding Paragliding Union Military low flying and us Many years ago the Civil Aircraft Notification Procedure CANP was set up to limit the risks associated with military and BHPA type flying sharing the lower levels of UK airspace Further information about the current system is available on the Civil Aircraft Notification Procedure CANP on this website For various reasons it has become a good time to conduct a review of CANP and how it does and does not work for all those that are part of the system The BHPA needs your help with identifying the good and the bad aspects of using it If you have flown midweek or intend to fly midweek in the future please complete this short on line questionnaire it shouldn t take more than five minutes and could well help save your or someone else s life BHPA Clubs are of course welcome to submit a combined response Posted 16 December 2013 Alex Coltman 369km It is reported from Brazil that Alex Coltman made 369km from Quixada in over nine and a half hours flying on November 19th This exceeds both Simon Headford s 338 2km solo flight and Richard Westgate and Phil Bibby s 356km tandem flight both set in South Africa in 2006 giving Alex the UK worldwide distance record Alex flying a UP Trango XC2 reached 3064m and averaged 45 5km h over the distance We offer him our congratulations Posted 11 December 2013 Britain s youngest pilot In November Green Dragons paragliding student Benjamin Akhtar 14 became the youngest BHPA pilot ever to have been issued with a Club Pilot Hill rating Having dreamed about paragliding for as long as he can remember Ben began training with Green Dragons at Woldingham last January just a week after his 14th birthday He achieved his EP award in April dropping only two marks in the exam Ben has funded his training himself selling personal items and working in Green Dragons workshop on Saturdays to scrape together the 600 course fee It was far from easy he says but my determination to fulfill my dream pushed me on He has set his sights high and is aiming to one day represent Britain in the World Championships I want to go as far as I can to push myself and my equipment to the absolute limit Ben is now engaged in passing on the news of his achievement to the mainstream media Posted 11 December 2013 Big Fat Repack The Thames Valley club s Big Fat Repack will run on March 2nd at the Rivermead Leisure Complex Reading There will be a zip slide to practice reserve deployment and the BHPA s repacking team will give presentations on how to deploy and repack your chute There will also be First Aid lectures
