  • T5 lights/grow tent advice please - Chillis Galore Forums
so and i want to know if im doing anything badly wrong as i dont want to wreck what has so far been a reasonable start to this years campaign Any tips or suggestions would be very welcome i even thought of removing them during the day and placing on a well lit windowsill but still concerned about the mediocre temps Top ChilliJez Chilli Guru Posts 2496 Joined Sun Jan 16 2011 5 06 pm Location South Cheshire or Peckham Re T5 lights grow tent advice please Quote Post by ChilliJez Wed Mar 02 2016 7 58 pm Bill Pics would be good but from what you describe I wouldn t be worried I m not sure about stunted but I m quite used to one leaf being smaller than the other as a new pair develops I m using a 300W cfl I ve had had compost dry out causing problems and crispy leaves in patches but that s cause they were virtually touching the light 8 10 should be no problem whatsoever and a lot of people would suggest closer to get best results I certainly wouldn t want to be responsible for you choosing to do something that turned out wrong In your circumstance if no individual seedling is absolutely vital I d do a trial I d return the light to the position where you were concerned I d take 3 identical seedlings and put one directly in the lightest spot I d put one at the edge of the growing area but with both tubes on and I d put a third at the other side edge and have one tube off See which does best IMHO FWIW I ll be interested to hear how you get on whatever you choose to do I m

  • Tube specification. - Chillis Galore Forums
peak in the spectrum of wavelengths the plant can use A bigger number isn t better though there may be useful wavelengths with tubes of 10 000 k apparently Lumens I have been playing with another project where the figure I ve been working with is 1200 1800 lumens sq ft for vegetative growth For seedlings I can t see that it s that necessary but for the sake of those numbers a double row of seedlings potted on into 7cm pots 8 pots long would be a square foot That s 16 pots arranged 8x2 and 2 feet long Frankly I think that the light I ve linked to below that is twice that length and rated at 1600 lumens would be more than enough to have a double row along it s length So that would be 32 pots arranged 16x2 For a given number of lumens more watts means less efficiency The smallest number of watts for a given light output the better However claimed figures are rarely accurate and often downright lies I don t know what to suggest except don t attach too much faith in any of these numbers Even a very bright growlight doesn t compare to the intensity of daylight so if you can site the seedlings where they can benefit from daylight and get topped up with the growlight so much the better Double the distance of your light from those seed leaves and you quarter the amount of light the plant gets If the whole space was super reflective it might be different but nearly all of your photons will hit dark compost and they ll be absorbed warming it up Get the tube close to your seedlings either by having a means to raise and lower the light or by putting the seed trays on a stack of grow it magazines A reflector is a one off cost that will maximise your return for every penny you spend on electricity focussing your energy on your plants Can be home made and don t need to be perfect elipses to provide a lot of benefit Heefy and SiBorg and others are growing using LED replacements for fluorescent tubes and the prices now look tempting Bear it in mind Lower energy consumption Guys chip in here Here s a 4ft 6500k LED T8 Fluorescent replacement for 10 09 inc Not a specific recommendation just an example http www energybulbs co uk philips 20 oCD67w wcB Top Heefy Chilli Guru Posts 3433 Joined Tue Jul 09 2013 5 37 pm Location Cambridgeshire Lincolnshire border England Contact Contact Heefy Website Re Tube specification Quote Post by Heefy Sat Feb 13 2016 12 16 am There are people on here who have found a lighting system that works for them and they stick with it I have no intention of getting into an argument over what s best but it s what works for you including running costs area covered number of plants and
