    on Campagnolo Record seat post 27 2 Extra details When I ordered the frame from Bill Hurlow in December 1970 I requested fleur de lys lugs Bill Hurlow said that he could no longer get the lug stock for that pattern He recommended the simpler lug design seen on this frame He was based at 112 Carlton Hill Herne Bay Kent at the time of the order Hand painted W B Hurlow on down tube Campagnolo Record side pull brake which was recommended by B H The specification sheet from Bill Hurlow lists the stem as Cinelli 1A 9 1 2 cm The Frame and Forks are listed as Italia to specifications D tube written O E outlined and owners name O E where O E is for Old English Outline refers to the gold trim around the red O E lettering on the down tube and name refers to the customer s name which in this instance is on the top tube in O E a feature common to many WBH s The paintwork was done by a sprayer who was known to pin stripe the McLaren racing cars Left Hurlow head and seat tube transfer Centre Rear brake

    center pulls Stem Bars Maes bars on ttt Gran Prix stem made in Italy Saddle Ideale Model 30 leather made in France Seat Post Campagnolo replaced original steel post Extra details Bluemel s Lightweight mudguards made in England with rear reflector and front mud flap Purchased in July 1971 from Bill Hurlow new and just painted for me I ordered it from him prior to my arrival in Kent Although the bike shows the Alex Iles labels Bill added the brazed fittings to the frame for the attachment of the rear pannier support rack The rack was then painted at the same time as the frame in order to match Final fit up of the bicycle was made on the day of my arrival in Mr Hurlow s Herne Bay Kent shop I rode the bike out of his shop and proceeded to tour southern England on it Herne Bay to Canterbury to Brighton to Bath to London to Dover and then by ferry to France where I left it in the Paris train station for a month while I toured Europe by train It was then left with Bill Hurlow who sent a letter dated September 21 1971 stating

    Stem Bars Titan Luxe stem with Major Taylor bars Headset Campagnolo Saddle Brooks B17 Professional on Campagnolo seat pin Extra details I am an Australian living in San Francisco The frame and most of the parts came from the UK as you might expect Build time was approximately 5 months Above Chater Lea round cranks with Chater Sprint pedals Right view showing Major Taylor bars JRJ modified Oscar Egg lugs and fork crown drilled for brake Although there are no mudguard eyes on the frame it has mudguard clearance as can be seen Additional information from Norris Lockley The JRJ track frame beautifully renovated by local framebuilder Chris Marshall is probably the Olympic Sprint No2 model that was designed for track use and short road work i e 10 and 25 mile timetrials on fixed gear With a 40 5 inch wheelbase it was just 0 5 inches longer than the Olympic Sprint No1 model destined for serious track use and boasting a small braze on lug on the top tube in front of the seat cluster on which to bolt the saddle support that held the saddle nose rigidly in position Both models were very popular with British amateur riders and used by several UK champions A larger frame such as this one will have 74 72 angles whereas the midisized ones had 73 parallel Bob Jackson who produced this JRJ frame John Robert Jackson also produced in the same range the Olympic 25 Time Trial and Olympic International Road Racing models Bob used to prefer to spray these frames with flamboyant transparent enamels over a silver base coat For 1 extra that finish could be had over an all chrome plate His favourite colours for road frames were flam ruby flam royal blue or flam emerald green These
