  • Comvergent | Handling a Telecoms Job Offer
position offered We also recognise however that you re at an important juncture in your life and career There s still some work to be done to make sure you make the right decision The counter offer Assuming you re in a role already you re going to have to hand in your notice to your current employer In today s challenging economic climate employers will often bend over backwards to keep hold of their best talent Replacing good people is something they rather just avoid Offering an instant pay rise bonus promotion or any number of other incentives to stay is an easy way for them to block your exit The counter offer can seem like an acceptable short term solution to frustrations in your current role but accepting or even considering a counter offer is not necessarily in your short OR long term interests Ask what sort of company makes you resign in order to be rewarded for your good work Is it possible that all they re doing is advancing you the raise you should have got last year Is it possible that all they re doing is delaying your exit until they can transfer your knowledge base away to your replacement Refocus on the original reasons for leaving your employer have they really changed Probably not The guilt trip This is when you start to think or are even told that you re leaving your colleagues and boss in the lurch Recognise that there s never a convenient time for a company to lose a valued employee Your manager s primary motivation is to maintain the status quo and limit damage Put yourself in your manager s shoes they need to buy time to put a plan in place a plan which may well result in your replacement six months down the line I m really good at my job I like my employer my colleagues and my work I m too happy to move Often the best time to make a move is when you re at the the top of your game You re brimming with justifiable confidence you re in control of your career and can handle any challenge that s thrown at you Don t wait until you reach the point when you start to stagnate in a role you re bored and unmotivated by Making the decision Of course we at Comvergent have a vested interest in you saying yes but we only want that to happen if you are absolutely committed to the role One thing we really don t enjoy is picking up the phone to tell a client that the person they thought was starting in two days is now pulling out It s disruptive to their plans could delay or jeopardise a forthcoming project and even affect their relationship with their client That s why we ll keep in touch with you every step of the way before and after any offer stage to help you through
