Carol Knott is one of the Councils Archaeologists and has recently moved into a satellite office in the Old School at Achmore The Connected Communities Broadband service was already working when she moved in and she said It s been wonderfully fast I used to work from home using a slow dial up connection and this system gives me a lot of benefits I don t have to worry about tying up the phone line if I go online or choosing between suing the Internet and making calls The speed of the connection is essential for my work as we produce a lot of interpretation material for the islands archaeological sites This means sending and receiving large images and files from colleagues and designer both on and off the islands which used to be a very slow process The connection is so fast that I can have immediate responses to emails from my colleagues in other sites We re working on getting our primary records database of 11 500 Western Isles archaeological sites available so that our own staff and the public can have access to it online instead of having to come into the office That s another project

Western Isles of Scotland Chris work involves sharing emails with colleagues Environmental Health Officer Achmore Business Sectors Public Sectors Remote Working Hosted Applications Chris Schofield is a Senior Environmental Health Officer with the Council and has recently moved into a satellite office in the Old School at Achmore The Connected Communities Broadband service was connected soon after she moved in and she said I recently moved from a large office in Stornoway it was getting very crowded there and a condition of the move was that we would have the Connected Communities broadband link available I ve found the email service works at least as fast as it did in the old office and the Internet is much faster I couldn t work without it It s important for us to be able to disperce staff to rural locations and I would recommend the service to other remote workers The service has worked well when there was a brief outage early on the council s IT department called in Connected Communities engineer to diagnose and resolve the problem and it s been reliable ever since The recently refurbished office environment is a great place to work with plenty of space
