  • Double celebration for Scilly favourite, Hell Bay hotel - Cornwall Business Show

    February 10 2016 by Andrew Weaver filed under Business News Alison Elvey Grants Consultant at Robinson Reed Layton is urging the Cornwall Isles of Scilly fishing sector to take advantage of the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund The fund launched by the Marine Management Organisation in January has around 71 million allocated to England to fund fisheries projects including improving health and safety on fishing vessels improving the added value or quality of fish caught including use of unwanted catches investments in Fishing ports landing sites auction halls and shelters processing of fishery and aquaculture products and investments in aquaculture Alison commented It s vital as Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have a rich fishing and aquaculture heritage that the region maximises the funding opportunities and receives its fair share of the grants on offer In coastal areas across the region fishing is significantly important to local employment both directly through the fisheries sector and indirectly with its links to tourism and reputation for excellent seafood The size of grants range varies widely from 200 for small scale projects to 1 000 000 for port infrastructure so it s best to check the guidance or ask an expert to find out how much grant you can apply for before developing your project Grant rates range from 30 to 100 although typically private sector projects will be able to apply at 50 The Marine Management Organisation is encouraging applicants to submit an Expression of Interest to check if projects are eligible for funding and further guidance can be found on their website For further information on Robinson Reed Layton please visit their website http www rrlcornwall co uk Tags Business News Cornwall Cornwall Business Show Comments are closed Recent Posts The key to a proper holiday How much do

  • The Cornish Mining WHS Partnership Supplementary Planning Document - Cornwall Business Show
    it An SPD sits alongside the Local Plan and provides additional guidance on how to interpret policies in it thereby supporting better planning applications that enable sustainable development whilst respecting the special characteristics of the globally significant mining landscapes in Cornwall and west Devon The Cornish Mining SPD explains in more detail the landscape features that provide evidence of the Cornish Mining industry s international impact in the 18 th and 19 th centuries and how the planning system should be used to protect these Julian German chairman of the Cornish Mining WHS Partnership commented The Cornish Mining World Heritage Site is an extraordinary place a designated heritage asset of the highest significance With this status come both responsibilities and opportunities by becoming party to the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage the UK Government is required to protect conserve present and transmit to future generations its World Heritage Sites The Cornish Mining WHS Partnership have commissioned this Supplementary Planning Document to explain how the planning system will seek to fulfil these responsibilities and opportunities It sets out what makes the WHS important why it must be protected and how the planning system can help to do this It provides advice for planners developers and local communities on how the responsibilities conferred by this status can be taken into consideration whilst opportunities for sympathetic development can be realised The consultation will be open until 31 March 2016 The SPD and an accompanying questionnaire is available via the Cornish Mining WHS website www cornish mining org uk planning applications in printed form at libraries and one stop shops in Cornwall or the West Devon Borough Council Offices in Tavistock Responses can either be made online using the questionnaire or in writing to Cornish Mining World Heritage

  • UK’s first maritime Marina & Boatyard apprentice starts at Fowey Harbour - Cornwall Business Show
    becoming the Port s first Marina Boatyard apprentice placement Daniel Jane is the first of 10 funded apprenticeship placements available to Cornwall Training and Consultancy this year across Cornwall and Devon under the scheme which is being run in partnership with Cornwall Adult Education The program is part of the new government apprenticeship framework in the maritime sector and accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority SQA and backed by the British Marine Federation BMF The government s target is 3 million apprentices by 2020 across all sectors Cornwall Training and Consultancy co founder Dan Hunt said If you wanted to build boats or become a marine engineer there are already apprenticeships for that but this is the first of its kind for doing those vital day to day jobs in a boatyard or marina We are really proud of the fact that we were the first company in the UK to be approved by the SQA It s a great honour to be able to deliver this apprenticeship with Fowey Harbour and get more young people learning while they re earning in the maritime sector of the South West Captain Paul Thomas Harbour Master at Fowey said we are delighted to welcome Dan to our team it is especially nice to be able to offer an opportunity to a young person starting on a career in the maritime sector We look forward to working with CTC to equip Dan with the skills he needs to be a safe and efficient Marine operative The apprenticeships are open for anyone aged 16 and over There are no minimum entry requirements although basic functional skills in Math s and English are required under the framework but Cornwall Training and Consultancy has taken care of that and is working with Cornwall Council Adult Education
