    again the innovation of metal clay means we have been pioneering new techniques for creating mixed silver and copper work The Mokume Gane technique has now become much quicker easier and less expensive to achieve During the two day course you will be working with both silver and copper applying several different techniques You will be guided through some suggested project tasks creating a variety of traditional and contemporary Mokume Gane blends These useful techniques will maximize the visual impact of your silver while saving you pounds in the cost of materials Over the course of the two days four project tasks will be demonstrated to illustrate the different methods to achieve these Mokume Gane blends All the hints and tips for firing schedules will be revealed You ll discover the tips and techniques to create the various pattern combinations that contribute to the distinctive different coloured layers called Mokume Gane You will practice the layers or pattern combinations first as patterns can vary from random wood grain to more formal geometric patterns Once you have practised and found your design you ll move on to work the metal clays discovering the top tips to achieve these different pattern combinations as well as how to work the different metal clays and how to fire and finish to a professional standard You must have a good level of metal clay experience to enrol onto this course Please note due to the firing schedule not all of your pieces may be ready to take home with you at the end of the class If this is the case we will post them on to you when they are ready What s included introduce the tools and equipment what alternatives are suitable Mokume Gane creating blends and combinations preparing and handling the clay

    and writing about all things Metal Clay Tracey can deliver courses either to teachers who want to learn the skills processes to roll this out into the curriculum themselves or will facilitate a class of school students through some project tasks What is metal clay Metal clay comes in many forms such as brass copper bronze silver and gold By far the easiest to use is fine silver clay This metal has been reclaimed from industrial processes such at the film industry and medical supplies The silver is ground into a fine powder then mixed with an organic binder and water to make a clay like substance This can be manipulated in many ways and at the end of the process the finished pieces are hallmark quality silver What will you learn The options on what you will learn will vary according to time and budget allowed to participate Opt for a half or full day session Typically in a half day session you will make a pendant or pair of earrings This half day session will take you through all the key basic foundation skills of working with one of the products in the metal clay range Included in the half day introduce the tools and equipment what alternatives are suitable preparing and handling the clay making a pendant or earrings using lump clay adding texture and shape creating holes drying times and temperatures refinement methods different firing methods and procedures polishing techniques trouble shooting tips You will pick up tips on how to reconstitute clay storing the clay reducing wastage For a full day workshop you can opt to make more complex construction pieces or work with another product in the metal clay range to make a second piece These sessions have been carefully time planned with full
