business Ruth runs wonderful clothes and about books and writing Kevin describes himself as Boston Irish but had a wonderful knowledge of contemporary writing and American history Schillings From Bethel we went to Littleton in New Hampshire where we ate in Schillings a pub with its own brewery making artisan beers Wonderful Here we met a couple from Northampton in the UK who were there on business before having a few days holiday Their description of staying locally on a previous visit when the husband got gastro enteritis and the hotel staff assumed it was Ebola and refused to serve them or clean their room was terrifying We met them again the next morning in a diner for breakfast and again on our way back from shopping and still don t know their names Didn t matter the craic was good Then there was Pat from the Littleton motel who had recently bought a home in Florida with her husband the young man fishing unsuccessfully for trout who gave us a potted history of the area and told us how the dam provided power for the whole town The receptionist at the York Harbour motel who had just bought an RV and when the motel closed for winter was going travelling with her dog Essex We drove on from Littleton to Ticonderoga which boasts a fort that figures in the French Indian war and the American revolutionary war It changed hands so often that the garrison never did the washing up just left it for the next occupier Driving north up the side of Lake Champlain we visited the village of Essex It did not remind us of Basildon Michael Post navigation Apples and Railways Days of Contrast My Life And Times From 5 99 for the download version Find

seem to get worse as the hours pass Well all I can say is that if John Denver had problems with LA to Denver then he should invest in an I Pod or an MP3 player of some description as I did It didn t help the leg cramps or the quality of the food but the earpieces reduced the drone and the range of audio books I carry on my I Pod meant that I didn t bother with the small screen movies Instead I selected my book sat back shut my eyes and relaxed even if I was getting teeth marks in my knees Since childhood I have loved being read to My parents always read me a story before I went to sleep and when I was older I read aloud to my mother while she was cooking or ironing My daughters have always read a bedtime story to their children in fact we all took this as a natural thing to do Then one day a few months ago my younger daughter Alice had collected her children from school and was walking them home together with another mother Just making conversation Alice said something about the story she had read to the children the previous night The other woman looked amazed You mean you read a story to your children every night before they go to bed What a brilliant idea So maybe it isn t so obvious after all and maybe that s why not everyone has really clocked on to the wonder of audio books We still need to get the message out there folks Being read to is cool Michael Post navigation New Technology and the New World Hallo Norfolk Crimson Cats has My Life And Times From 5 99 for the download

small publisher anyway Imagine my surprise then when I walked into a branch of Borders bookshop in Sydney and looked at the rack of audio books There were a lot there but only a handful of CDs most of them were cassette packs some of them large enough to require a friend to help you lift them Who are these aimed at I wondered because walk into any hi fi store in Sydney and you will be hard pushed to buy a cassette machine A week or so later and we are in New Zealand where like Sydney the library system is excellent I d been into the library in Whangamata at the southern end of the Coromandel Peninsular so I could use their internet facility to check my email When I had finished I got chatting to the librarian and in the spirit of research asked her if the library stocked audio books Oh yes she said and led me over to a whole section with lots of audio books on the shelf all on cassette Don t you have any on CD I asked Can you get them on CD she replied I thought audio books only came on cassette So what s going on You would not think Australia and New Zealand were backward countries when it comes to technology but unless I just hit two unlucky examples there does seem to be a technology gap Perhaps they plan to skip CDs altogether and go straight to the MP3 downloads No problem for Crimson Cats we offer both but in spite of my antipodean research I don t think we will start re inventing the cassette Michael Post navigation Australian Tour A Success I Pods Over the Pacific My Life And Times From 5 99 for the

  • Australian Tour A Success - Crimson Cats Audio Books
last Friday we gave a breakfast talk to the Sydney Cove Rotary Club which takes place on board a boat in Sydney harbour Only sold a few CDs here but shifted a lot of brochures which is always a good thing It is interesting in this digital age to discover that the concept of audio books is still unknown to many people For the Rotary Club we concentrated on the business aspects of Crimson Cats how we got started the problems we faced and how we overcame them and so on Seemed to go down well So the work in Australia is done we move on to New Zealand on Monday On our last but one day is Oz we became tourists and went surfing on Bondi Beach Well when I say surfing I suppose I really mean paddling Well it all takes place in the sea doesn t it Michael Post navigation Crimson Cats Take Australia by Storm New Technology and the New World My Life And Times From 5 99 for the download version Find Out More Cliff Morgan Sporting Legends 1a 2 99 Find Out More Mary Peters Sporting Legends 1b 2 99 Find Out More Cart

  • Crimson Cats Take Australia by Storm - Crimson Cats Audio Books
gave the Jane Austen talk again The library also bought a number of our CDs for their stock as did the Haberfield Library earlier in the week Maybe Australian libraries have more money than UK ones who apart from a few honourable exceptions have not shown any interest in what we do I suppose we should be grateful we still have libraries in England but for how much longer Then this afternoon we gave a presentation to the Kipling Society of Australia mostly about My Grandads And Afghanistan but we also included a reading from Kipling s story The Cat Who Walked By Himself which is included on How To Own A Human This one was also well received in spite of the very noisy thunderstorm which interrupted us and forced us to raise our voices a bit Apart from the talks we are seeing a bit a very tiny bit of Australia and also talking to a lot of people who enjoy books and literature We ve had several suggestions for possible future publications for Crimso Cats and we will be following those up in the new year Two days off now and then we hit Wollongong Library on

  • Crimson, or Criminal, Cats? - Crimson Cats Audio Books
some background information about the books themselves and the process of producing and publishing an audio book The talk went well about 30 people in the audience and as usual we took questions at the end There is one question we get all the time and that is Why did you call it Crimson Cats The answer of course is that we were simply looking for an off beat name for an off beat publishing company which people were most likely to remember However one question came flying out of left field Do you have a cat Yes we do and her name is Holly Oh I see so you are the two criminals and Holly is the cat What we thought Criminals Us After a bit more confusion it turned out the questioner had mis heard our name and thought we were called Crims and Cats So there you go I ve heard of cat burglars but please believe me Crimson Cats is as honest as the day is long We leave for the Southern Highlands elsewhere in New South Wales tomorrow to talk to a Jane Austen group there It s hard work this Australia lark but lots

  • Thank You, Jane - Crimson Cats Audio Books
stories can be very funny We chose 6 stories from Jane s Juvenilia for our collection all written when she was between the ages of 12 and 16 They are often funny sometimes a little naïve but all showing the growing perception and observation that foretold the great novelist she would become From an audio publisher s point of view they are ideal as all her stories were written to be read aloud and there is no doubt that they benefit from this A member of the audience came up to me afterwards and said he had never realised these stories were so funny and that he would now read them again Perhaps I read them too fast he said and perhaps he did An easy thing to do when the eye is skimming along a line After the talk lots of people asked us questions not just about The Beautifull Cassandra but also about our other titles and a host of other questions about audio publishing It was a very satisfying day and we sold lots of CDs afterwards which is also very pleasing This might be a good place to mention the spelling of Beautifull in our title We spell it with a double ll at the end because this is how Jane Austen herself spelled it and we thought that was a nice touch Not so sure now We get a number of people who inform us some politely some less so that there s a spelling mistake on your CD you know Still we ll stick with it at least it s a talking point More from Sydney later in the week Michael Post navigation Cats Down Under Crimson or Criminal Cats My Life And Times From 5 99 for the download version Find Out More
