    the war memorial had been moved since photo A was taken The memorial was designed by C A Thompson and was built in the Market Place in 1924 by A G Walker The rounded building at the bottom of Iron Gate was built for Barlow and Taylor s department store this building was for many years The Derbyshire Building Society until it was closed in May 2004 half of the building was converted into a bookmakers and the remaining part was converted into Nando s which opened August 2005 Currently June 2006 plans are being applied for to create 12 luxury apartments in the upper floors The building on the corner of Iron Gate and Sadler Gate Lloyds Bank was built in 1700 and was once the home of William Bemrose of Bemrose Stationers and printers He set up business here in 1827 Photo A taken 1927 Postcard Photo B taken 28th April 2006 Time elapsed 79 years Map Location Click HERE Click the thumbnail to view Photo Description Holy Trinity church view London Road Derby Image Reference No DP TAN LONROATRIN 122 Details This is a view looking towards the City Centre of Holy Trinity Church Assemblies of the First Born Church on London Road The DRI is on the left side of the photo Holy Trinity Church was consecrated in 1836 rebuilt in 1903 originally this church was called St Georges Winter is the only time I could take my photo as I needed to see the pinicles of the church to get a match You can just about see them through the branches of the tree Notice how the branch structure of the tree on the corner of Trinity Street has not really changed in 100 years It confirms that its the very same tree Photo A taken 1905 Postcard Photo B taken 17th April 2006 Time elapsed 101 years Map Location Click HERE Click the thumbnail to view Photo Description Cavendish Derby Image Reference No DP TAN CAVDISBIRDS 123 Details This is a view of the junction where Upper Dale Road centre right of photo Almond Street centre left of photo Stenson Road far left side of photo Walbrook Road far right side of photo and Derby Lane where photo was taken from all meet up in an area known locally as The Cavendish part of the suburb of Normanton which is just north west of the Pear Tree area of Derby In the centre of Photo A is Birds Confectioners Ltd a local firm famous for their freshly baked cakes Their slogan was we never sell a stale cake The company was founded by Reg Frank and Tom Bird at the former Peach s bakery building at the end of Upper Dale Road in 1919 They have over 40 shops in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area The bakery on Upper Dale road was eventually demolished and replaced with a petrol station and garage and Birds opened a new large bakery on Ascot Drive There is
