  • Client Retrospective: Citalia Giro D’Italia Interactive Infographic « «
    relevant hotel page on the Citalia website allowing users to read more about it or even book a room if they were heading to that specific location Luckily Citalia had also collected all the data for us meaning we could head straight to the initial design stage DESIGN SKETCH To allow the client to see the general design outline before we dove straight into the mock up we produced a sketch of how we envisioned the final piece to look This rough outline not only ensures that the client knows where the design is headed but can save us significant time in the long run if we know how the final piece should look before we start on the illustration and layout The sketch was signed off immediately which is always nice allowing us to move on to producing the coloured vector based mock ups DESIGN MOCK UP AND INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS Before we move to the project to the coders we need to get sign off on the visual aesthetic including colours design style and iconography where appropriate In addition we also show the client some of the interactive elements of the piece using static jpegs as this allows us to ensure a minimal amount of revisions once the project has been coded This not only saves us a lot of effort but saves the client money as it s far quicker for us to revise a static graphic compared to revising the graphic and re coding The designs were signed off with just a handful of revisions as well as some clarifications on how the interactive rollovers would work which weren t featured in the static mock ups Once these were sent over and revisions completed the project was moved on to the coding stage CODING There are a

    as your site renders and loads properly then you shouldn t be overly concerned A site that doesn t rank well isn t likely to change by having a validated website and the reverse is also true if you re ranking well adding a page that doesn t perfectly validate won t cause your rankings to drop Obviously if you have a major coding error then you probably will struggle to rank and fixing it should be a priority so if your site isn t rendering because of an unclosed tag somewhere you need to sort it out but you shouldn t spend a lot of time and money finding and fixing tiny errors just so your site validates according to W3C s guidelines Google com doesn t validate and hasn t done for a long time but the team at Google don t appear to be too bothered by it As a general rule if they re not concerned it s likely you needn t be either And if you don t believe me that their site doesn t validate or that they re not too fussed about it check out the official GoogleWebmasterHelp Why Doesn t Google com Validate video Generally speaking if you ve got a relatively low number of errors say less than 50 and your website is ranking reasonably well I wouldn t bother putting in the effort to locate and fix those errors just so you can validate your website Whilst researching this topic I came across a fantastic post on the Yoast website on the same topic where you ll find a lot of top SEO s giving their opinion on W3C validation so if you want to do some more reading on the subject you can find the post at yoast com
