    5 Key Species to look out for on Exmoor 5 Top Picnic Spots 5 Sporting Suggestions 4 Unusual Exmoor animals 4 Exmoor beer gardens 4 key Somerset cricket players 4 Coastal days out 4 Exmoor Events for June July 6 History and Heritage days out around Exmoor 10 Facts on marshes Porlock Marsh Grants see enhancement to Valley of the Rock Published by Duddings in Exmoor 19 12 2013 17 09 20 Enhancement to Valley of the Rock You may or may not know but as of the last week in November this year the Lynton and Lynmouth Town Council has entered the start of their projects to enhance the famous Valley of Rocks and this comes thanks to a major grant So the next time you visit your favourite Exmoor holiday cottages and take a trip to the Valley of the Rocks you should see some noticeable changes The sum of 93 000 was awarded by the Exmoor National Park Partnership Fund as well as 40 000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Amory and Heathcoat Trusts through the Heart of Exmoor Scheme 130 000 of successful fundraising by Lynton and Lynmouth Town Council s met its own 40 000 investment in these projects It was announced that works will include renovating coastal path access to the concealed beach at Wringcliff Bay and renovating the 19th century Poet s Shelter Rather excitingly the installation of a traditional estate railing fence at the local Cricket Club similar to that of those seen in the early photographs there Good news for visitors who drive to the area as they will have access to greener resurfaced car park that will lower the impact on the landscape New informative resources will highpoint the walking routes and also the valley s wildlife geology

    marshes Porlock Marsh Local Fishing Club awarded by the Queen Published by Duddings in Exmoor 3 12 2013 17 19 58 Local Fishing Club awarded by the Queen They say that the local community is always ready to help in close knit areas like the ones that reside around the Exmoor region If you ve ever stayed at one of the Exmoor holiday cottages available then you could have been fortunate enough to experience it Well the hard work and effort of a local resident after reading an inspiring book by a woman recovering from breast cancer has now been recognised by the Queen A ground breaking fly fishing club set up to help in the recovery of people with breast cancer has been officially honoured this week by Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Lady Gass on behalf of the Queen Gillian Payne from Brompton Regis set up South West Fishing for Life in 2008 and her efforts were acknowledged with a top commendation from the Queen in April of this year The award has an equivalent status for voluntary groups as the MBE has for individuals Gillian discovered that the muscle movements linked with fly fishing had been medically proven to support breast cancer patients and as she lived alongside Wimbleball Lake the vision of fishing for life was invented Gillian said Over 100 people have been through us already and it is my aim to get out there and reach the people who don t know about us Wimbleball Lake is the home of the founding group and relies on the generosity of lake owners the South West Lakes Trust as well as a ready team of volunteers including fly fishing coaches fundraisers and committee members The award is for all our dedicated volunteers from those who make the
