    a small posy of flowers at the graveside of Fabian Bland Birthday Celebrations at St Mary in the Marsh Romney Marsh 2013 Members of the Society celebrate the 155th anniversary of the birth of Edith Nesbit in Kennington London on 15th August 1858 Hubert Bland Remembered Exactly 100 years ago 14 April 1914 Hubert Bland died in the arms of Alice Hoatson at his home Well Hall Today we met together for a dinner in Hubert s honour at the Tudor Barn Eltham Members of the Society enjoy a meal at the Tudor Barn in honour of Hubert Bland The Railway Children Every two years at Hythe there is a Venetian Fête and the Society takes part The fête is held on the Hythe Military Canal with a flotilla of decorated rafts The society usually depicts one of Edith Nesbit s book titles and in 2005 it was The Railway Children and in 2007 The Enchanted Castle In 2009 we won second place in our class with The Phoenix and the Carpet In 2011 we depicted 5 Children and It with a huge Psammead This year 2013 we once again depicted The Railway Children telling the story of the Old

    Nesbit Society was delighted with the response to the poetry competition A selection of the many poems received were sent to Jacqueline Wilson for a final decision on the winner in each category For the 6 10 year olds Danielle Tye s A Little Fairy was chosen and for the 11 16 year olds Eloise Richardson s Edith Nesbit s 150th Anniversary A signed copy of Jacqueline Wilson s latest book Cookie was given by her to the first prize winners and signed photographs to all competitors The winning poems are reproduced on this page and thank you everyone who took part and congratulations to you all A little fairy A gas ball flying throu the sky It flutters up and down Jeting throu the atmosphere A little person wallking in the clouds Wings as thick as a peny She glides your tooth from beneath your pillow Replaced it with a golden coine Edith Nesbit s 150th Anniversary I walked in my beautiful garden The Psammead to my right To the sound of trickling water And the call of a phoenix in flight I found a carpet that tingled With magical thoughts from my mind So I squashed it flat
