  • Bowling For Soup / The Dollyrots / Lacey / MC Lars - Nick Rayns LCR, Norwich - eGigs.co.uk
blast of MC Lars with Download This Song it s time to party As I said at the start it s only a couple of years since Bowling For Soup bid farewell to the UK and as a result a number of people vented annoyance online over their quick return Some even going as far as to refuse to attend this tour clearly however none of those were in Norwich as the venue tonight is completely sold out That s because Bowling For Soup consistently deliver a great night Even before they come on stage you know you ve backed a winner by buying a ticket when you see their stage set out as a pub complete with bar They start things off in style quickly running through The Bitch Song Emily and Ohio Come Back To Texas Bowling For Soup are the sort of band you watch and realise just how many popular songs they have and Punk Rock 101 and 1985 both follow in the first half of the show Of course a Bowling For Soup show is about the music but it s also become as much about the onstage banter Tonight is no different and there s plenty of fun stuff to go along with the superb pop punk on offer Speaking of pop punk and the band reference the suggestion that pop punk is dead It s obviously a notion that the band disagree with they are after all one of the bands that helped create the genre In tribute they plough through a medley of hit songs by Blink 182 Green Day Good Charlotte New Found Glory and Jimmy Eat World before giving an airing to their cover of Fountains Of Wayne hit Stacy s Mom With this the banter continues as guitarist Chris

  • Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show - Unity Works, Wakefield - eGigs.co.uk
the crowd are hooked Singer Lara Rose has an amazing voice to bring it all together too The Lumbering Giant gets to play a longer set now to a more intrigued or be it drunk crowd and gets the dancing he deserves It will soon be midnight there is a bunch of people of all ages here and I wonder if it is solely for the music or whether the elderly ladies are here for Corrie the younger ones for Red Dwarf no matter as the crowd jell really well there s not trouble and everyone is very friendly to everyone else The vibe all night makes me proud to be in Wakefield on the main trip for once Wakey has it s reputation Craig Charles is straight on at midnight no messing We secured a spot right at the front and danced away to classics and newer tunes remixed like Staying Alive Sexual Feeling A funky remix of In Constant Sorry from the film O Brother Where Art Though was a favourite of mine I believe it s from Skeewiff as it was played on Craig s 6music show Craig s a joy to watch on stage his enthusiasm for this style of music and his collection of songs ensure a great party He even nips down from the deck to hug the crowd at the barrier then returns to mix more tunes to make your whole body move It Began In Afrika from the Chemical Brothers makes an appearance too Rock With You from Michael Jackson is played by a few folk tonight Craig finishes with Uptown Funk remixed with two song James Brown s Living In America and The White Stripes in Seven Nation Funk My only gripes are that the cloakroom was full halfway through the

Stein with significant portions of people singing along to each word with the chorus elevating the volume even further There is plenty of movement on the spacious stage as the Germans interact with each other playfully often pulling humorous faces and mirroring their music s tongue in cheek nature Last year saw these Germans release My God Given Right and the title track is the first of the album to be represented tonight much more contemporary in sound but still harnessing key Helloween guitar leads Their sound draws influence from classic metal such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest but with a healthy does of double bass drum work that would help define the power metal sound and quirky guitar work that is uniquely their own Surprisingly The Time of the Oath is heavily represented tonight with selections including Steel Tormentor Power and Forever and One Neverland making the cut Mr Torture and Where the Rain Grows are particular highlights of the night and prove that Helloween s worthy albums are not confined to the 80s exclusively DaniLöble provides a drum solo to vary the pace of the set but it feels like the audience is overall unenthused by it and is eager for more songs With such a lengthy back catalogue it is impossible for Helloween to satisfy all of the punters but they make a valiant effort with their usual inclusion of a medley the opening of Halloween truly increases the heartbeat of the venue before it soon gives way to Sole Survivor then I Can followed by the energetic Are You Metal before concluding with the end of The Keeper of the Seven Keys the crowd wild with ovation yet again With the final song up next the audience know which song is glaringly missing from the

  • The Cadillac Three / Whiskey Myers - The Waterfront, Norwich - eGigs.co.uk
to change their name from The Cadillac Black early on and this perseverance appears typical of Jaren Johnston Kelby Ray and Neil Mason This is a band that have set their stall out in clear terms of the type of band that they are They did so again tonight starting the show with I m Southern and I m Rockin two songs that perfectly sum them up The Cadillac Three have blended southern rock and country with a hard rocking edge and to great effect As they delivered Tennessee Mojo to the packed crowd it was clear we were in for a fun evening To date the band have issued their debut album and a UK only EP and the setlist is mainly drawn from these releases But the band also chose to throw in some new material such as Girls On Fire and new single Graffiti both of which show great promise for the future As mentioned Peace Love Dixie was an EP only released in this country which goes to show the success of the band here and it was midway through the set that the title track appeared and became one of the highlights of the show The Cadillac Three are not one of the many new bands happy to deliver a quick performance and go on their way on this evening the band flesh out their somewhat small back catalogue for an hour and a half of pure rock n roll This was clearly appreciated by the audience and as the evening progressed so did the mutual love in between band and fans As the night was drawing towards its close the band produced even more highlights in an evening of highlights in the shape of Down To The River and Days Of Gold There was

  • Threshold / Spheric Universe Experience - O2 Academy Islington, London - eGigs.co.uk
fan favourite Mission Profile possessing a strong pairing of lightly distorted guitar with Richard West s atmospheric keyboards Notable portions of the audience sing along to this lyrically outspoken track that playfully explores varying tones and rhythms Next Threshold lay out the track listing of For the Journey chronologically beginning with the bouncy Watchtower on the Moon Often prog metal receives the criticism that it is a mechanical riff fest but these Brits knock that theory out of the water as Wilson s signature vocals and the instruments melodies are potent with emotion twinned with metal s naturally heavy constitution aided tremendously by varied drummer Johanne James The exploratory The Box ballad Lost in Your Memory and tender Autumn Red are particular highlights of the album performed with extremely clear sound and the band s sincere zest The album is not played entirely back to back as Wilson is a particularly chatty frontman interspersing humour and thanks to the audience into the set As Siren Sky concludes this live rendition of Threshold s last album the concert reverts to older classics with Oceanbound taking the lead This is followed by the beautiful Pilot in the Sky of Dreams where Wilson divides the audience in half so he can get off the stage microphone in hand and walk towards the back of the venue and get more intimate with the punters The robust Ashes from the recent March of Progress closes the set with the audience an indicator of the popularity of the band s latter compositions After this the six piece leave the stage to a robust ovation Wilson comes back out to speak more to the audience and encourages them to call the remainder of the band back out for an encore The encore opens with the defiant The

woeful completely submerging the guitars Nonetheless this does little to deter the enthusiastic crowd who mosh sing and headbang with infinite gusto as if they were witnessing a headlining performance The final number is Primordial s most popular anthem Empire Falls and completes the set gloriously and leaves Abbath with the arduous task of surpassing a monumental performance Although many in attendance surely caught Immortal during their career there is hesitation over expectations for Abbath s live show not least due to many of the audience not yet having heard the self titled debut Clad in his now infamous corpsepaint Abbath takes the stage to a hearty roar of ovation and launches into new song To War black metal bearing more of a rock tinged edge than the blackened purity of Immortal Like Primordial before the headliners the Norwegians are unjustly plagued by poor sound but the punters waste little time birthing mosh pits Admittedly the music of Abbath s solo efforts are far from ground breaking or fresh but fortunately for those who share this opinion a fair portion of the set is composed of Immortal covers that receive much more enthused audience response The likes of the fiery One By One the double bass devoted Nebular Raven s Winter and the punchy Tyrants are more palatable than the Abbath songs as is the commendable inclusion of Warriors from Abbath s highly lauded heavy black metal project I His stage presence is decent and his backing band fit the bill suitably but something overall is lacking in the performance to mark it as particularly memorable The final song of the night is the album s closer Endless and the band vacates the stage rather abruptly This sudden conclusion leads the crowd to remain resolute in the hopes of an
