  • primary skill set includes design research and interaction design Throughout my career I have facilitated many workshops and training programmes with C suite executives and working professionals to drive cultural change within organisations around design and innovation I m a firm believer in holistic experience design spanning digital spatial product and service domains I feel that delivering great design for a client is only part of the equation It is also key to help clients bring sustained impact and cultural change in the way they work Part of my time is also spent volunteering to grow the UX community in Singapore through organising the UXSG conference and monthly meet ups I have also been certified as an Integral coach by New Ventures West that involves helping clients to create and maintain habits of excellence that are self generating and self correcting I practice mindfulness and am interested in how it can be brought into professional practice Learning and people development is in my blood I dabbled in pedagogical research at the National Institute of Education in the past Just before joining Foolproof I also taught at Republic Polytechnic a tertiary institution in Singapore and helped developed the curriculum in anthropological

  • a number of technical publications I m also immensely proud of having contributed three entries to Roger s Profanisaurus in 1998 and they are still there In the time I ve been at Foolproof I have been involved in a multitude of tactical and strategic programmes of work for a wide range of major clients around the globe Although this can be fun it does mean that I get to sit in a lot of airports wait in a lot of queues and watch a lot of movies at 40 000ft It s got to the point that I hear Would cabin crew put doors to manual and cross check for landing in my sleep Although much of my time is concentrated in global finance with HSBC I m also lucky enough to engage with companies in both the retail and gaming market verticals Earlier this year I had the privilege of immersing myself with one particular client circling the globe concentrating on gaining a deeper understanding of the differing stimulus support networks requirements social interactions and personal drivers and desires of online gamblers My continuing work within Foolproof has confirmed to me the importance of understanding the dynamics and nuances of cultural differences the political and social influences on how and when users interact with online and mobile and the effect this has on the approach to online selling and purchasing processes In what little time I have to myself I collect cinematography equipment from the 1930 s and attempt to master the ukulele This is jolly relaxing and helps to clear the mind It should be said that although I feel I m doing rather well I fear that the people around me may not feel quite the same I have been involved in a multitude of tactical

  • design and marketing disciplines I have a degree in Psychology a Masters in Interface Design and a diploma in Marketing This mix has given me a laser focus throughout my career on creating business value through simple elegant and engaging design solutions As well as conceiving of and designing great experiences I always push myself and others I work with to prove the measurable positive impact of our work I am part of the measurement special interest group at Foolproof and contribute to discussions about how we can gain more influence as a community by connecting to the higher strategic agenda in organisations I am happiest when I am doing research to explore real peoples behaviours needs and motivations or when I am leading multi disciplinary teams of colleagues clients and other contributors or when I am convening discussions between different perspectives to find creative solutions to problems I do my best work when I am helping teams turn thinking into doing challenging them to move from conceptual thinking into execution and solution design I have been at Foolproof since 2007 and during that time have progressed from being a consultant to a member of the Leadership Team I remain closely involved in delivering work for clients but alongside that I also get involved in strategic and operational planning line manage a team contribute to evolving our Experience Design practices deliver training programmes to develop research design and consulting skills in others and provide career mentorship to researchers and designers within Foolproof and in the wider community When I m not presenting to clients I am often speaking at public events about the work I do at Foolproof and how we are evolving our thinking and practices for example at UXPA or IXDA meet ups I consider myself a life
