  • GDSF - Great Dorset Steam Fair Trailer Rides Raise Over £15,000 For Charity
    chosen charities MacMillan Cancer Support and The Alfie O Neill Cerebral Palsy Treatment Fund Visitors to the heavy haulage arena opted for the chance to get close up and personal with the steam engines towing heavy loads around the enclosure in exchange for a small donation Steam car bus and traction engine owners gave their time freely to share with visitors the true majesty of steam Donations made by the public totalled 15 297 an all time record amount of funds raised at the event Organisers say thanks go to the public who gave so generously to the enginemen who gave their time to support these worthy causes and also to the many helpers who by their generosity of time made the fund raising such a success The donation cheques will be presented at The Coppleridge Motcombe on Sunday 11th October at 1pm Managing director Martin Oliver said We are incredibly grateful for all those who worked tirelessly to deliver such a wonderful achievement The Great Dorset Steam Fair will be donating 10 877 to Macmillan Cancer Support and 4 420 to The Alfie O Neill Cerebral Palsy Treatment Fund We look forward to helping more worthy charities at next year s event Every day 14 people in Dorset hear the news that they have cancer and there are already more than 30 000 people in the county living with cancer The totalnumber of people living with cancer in Dorset will almost double by 2030 affecting enough people to fill the AFC Bournemouth football ground five and half times The Alfie O Neill Cerebral Palsy Treatment Fund is raising funds for a little boy who brings love laughter and tears to everyone who knows him Unfortunately Alfie was born prematurely and as a result suffers from cerebral palsy which has

  • GDSF - Martin Oliver Officially Opens New Steam Fair Road In Father’s Roller
    in his late father s steam roller Lord Jellicoe Martin decided it would be a worthy tribute to complete this significant improvement to the event in a way that honours its history heritage and founder The new stretch of road was named Oliver s Way and the first vehicle to drive on it was a Jeep that also belonged to founder Michael Oliver Built in 1929 Lord Jellicoe is a Fowler 8 Ton Roller purchased by Michael Oliver Founder of the Great Dorset Steam Fair in 1968 It has stayed in the Oliver family since he passed away in November 2009 Martin Oliver said I couldn t imagine anything more fitting than to complete this first phase of our new roads in my Dad s roller It was the perfect way to demonstrate that whilst we are updating the event to improve visitor experience we will always stay true to our history and heritage My Dad was always so recognisable to everyone on site by his Jeep so it was only right that it should be the first car to drive over the final stretch of road Over 3 kilometres of new roads were laid on the steam fair site

    Regulations 2016 Prepaid Campsite Terms Conditions Caravan Hire Companies Snoozebox News FAQs A Successful Opening Day For The Great Dorset Steam Fair 2015 Wednesday 2 nd September The opening day has been a huge success Traffic delays were at an all time low for day one and hoards of pay on arrival campers and day visitors turned up to experience the sights and sounds of the unique festival This year sees significant improvements to the infrastructure specifically the relocation of car parks and camping fields The changes have been successful with visitors being processed much more efficiently than previous years Martin Oliver Managing Director at the Great Dorset Steam Fair said It s been a brilliant opening day and we are absolutely chuffed with the number of visitors who have come out to see us on day one We ve had glorious sunshine and blue skies and our exhibits have all been really popular especially the World War One display The event which runs until Sunday features hundreds of exhibits with steam engines heavy haulage a fairground steam and horse ploughing a huge trade area crafts tents food halls a WW1 special display and even its own music festival Plus

    at the Great Dorset Steam Fair charity trailer rides take passengers around the heavy haulage arena and collect funds for charities This year organisers have chosen to support MacMillan and The Alfie O Neill Cerebral Palsy Treatment Fund Throughout the event which runs from 2 nd 6 th September the trailer rides will offer the visiting public the chance to get up close and personal with the engines and activities whilst contributing to worthy causes The trailers are pulled by all varieties of engines by many dedicated enginemen and their crew Every day 14 people in Dorset hear the news that they have cancer and there are already more than 30 000 people in the county living with cancer The totalnumber of people living with cancer in Dorset will almost double by 2030 affecting enough people to fill the AFC Bournemouth football ground five and half times Money raised from the trailer rides will go straight to Macmillan to help those people living with cancer in Dorset The Alfie O Neill Treatment Fund is raising funds for a little boy who brings love laughter and tears to everyone who knows him Unfortunately Alfie was born prematurely and as a result suffers from cerebral palsy which has confined him to a wheelchair Alfie had Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery in May 2014 which is not available on the NHS and was fully funded by donations He now requires intense physiotherapy to ensure the operation is successful and money raised from the trailer rides will go towards keeping this important part of Alfie s treatment going Rides are 2 for adults and a 1 for children and the trailers are equipped to take wheelchairs All proceeds will go the charities The trailer rides can be found at the gates by the top and

    the world as part of the entertainment on offer at the event which runs from 2 nd 6 th September Matt Coulter aka The Kangaroo Kid from Brisbane Australia has entertained millions of fans across the globe with his unique shows blending gut wrenching quad bike stunts with theatrical showmanship He has performed some of the most dangerous jumps possible breaking records and performing stunts that were once the preserve of legends such as Evel Knievel His many T V appearances include You Bet Great Escapes The Big Breakfast Don t Try This At Home and Guinness World Records The act includes stunts using a quad bike specially fitted with a roll cage and finishes with a spectacular jump over anything that is put in their path be it cars trucks or tractors Matt has even jumped a flying aeroplane Using a microphone in his helmet that is linked to the show s main PA system the Kangaroo Kid will keeps the crowd informed with witty commentary while displaying incredible skill and agility manoeuvring his selection of quad bikes around the stunt arena Martin Oliver Managing Director of the Great Dorset Steam Fair says Our stunt displays always prove very popular at the show and we can t wait to see The Kangaroo Kid wow the crowds We also have Big Pete Monster Trucks returning this year so there will be no shortage of live action entertainment in the stunt arena For 2015 Matt has teamed up with long time fan and good friend Paul Hannam to bring a brand new show to the UK show circuit Paul first saw The Kangaroo Kid when he was seven years old during a visit to an agricultural show and became a huge fan After 6 years as an instructor Paul started racing

    the event which runs from 2 to 6 September visitors can travel on Damory buses directly between the site and stops in various locations including the Sunrise Camp Site Blandford Salisbury Coombe Bassett Pimperne Milton Abbas Puddletown Dorchester Weymouth Wimborne and Poole We are working closely with organisers to run services from first thing in the morning on Wednesday 2 September at regular intervals until the early hours of Sunday 6 September said Adam Keen Damory area manager The Great Dorset Steam Fair is widely regarded as the leading show of its type in the world with thousands of visitors enjoying the delights on offer over the course of the week So our team is pulling out all the stops to make sure they are able to make their way here and back quickly and in comfort We are keen to encourage people to leave their cars behind and have the chance to immerse themselves in the magical atmosphere here without having to worry about how they were getting home At the end of each day there will be frequent bus services from the event site at Tarrant Hinton to destinations across the region including all main towns and some local railway stations Buses will depart the event at regular intervals until 12 15am on Sunday morning We re also operating a special shuttle service connecting various parts of the Great Dorset Steam Fair in a continuous loop added Adam We know that campers exhibitors and visitors wishing to travel between the event and the car park will find this useful And we are enhancing our X12 services too in order to cater for extra numbers during the course of the week Great Dorset Steam Fair operations director Julian Hubbick said We are delighted to be working with Damory as

  • GDSF - Friends Plan To Steam 189 Miles To Great Dorset Steam Fair In ‘Clinker’s Challenge’ For Charity
    for Cancer Research UK and Rob together with his 19 year old son Jack was up for the challenge of driving his steam road locomotive Clinker all the way to the event Jon Eastman said In 2008 and aged 24 years I was diagnosed with testicular cancer it was a very frightening time of my life Following an operation and treatment I have now had the all clear I m also to become a dad for the first time less than 2 months after this event and I feel its time I give something back to Cancer Research for saving my life Having driven Clinker for many miles over the years I am delighted to have joined forces with Rob Jack to create Clinker s Challenge We will be stopping in as many villages and towns as possible on the journey so if you see us come and say hello and show your support The Clinker s Challenge team includes Jon and his wife Sam Rob and his son Jack Wing and also Charlie Daniel They hope to complete the challenge in just under 72 hours and raise 10 000 In the process they will use approximately 80 bags of coal all hand shovelled and around 14 000 litres of water GDSF Managing Director Martin Oliver said We are in full support of this challenge for a worthy cause which is why we have offered to provide all the coal needed for the journey We hope that the public will show this great team the support they deserve and give generously Other supporters of the challenge include The Cornish Fishmonger and The National Traction Engine Trust To donate please visit https www justgiving com steam or text COAL60 and your donation to 70070 For more information and the latest updates
