    schools and building positive relationships with our children Wolves players Joel and Michael Monaghan pictured with some of the children The ever popular Wolfie surrounded by his fans Volunteers joining in the seated volleyball Craig Thomason starts a competitor on the try line tussle Gary Watmough going for a fast time on Adrian s hand cycle Guests of honour Adrian Derbyshire and Wolfie Marshalling 150 children from three schools took some doing at times Neill Briggs beaten just inside the post in the blind penalty shootout Jack Day looks on as the blind penalty taking competition gets under way Leon Moye concentrating on his pedalling technique Paul Speakman tries out a three wheeler in the sunshine Mark Ball Gary Watmough supervise the archery Click on thumbnail to see a bigger image Staff The GB staff taking part in the event all thoroughly enjoyed their day Gary Watmough said There aren t many companies who give you the opportunity to have that much fun helping kids and team bonding at the same time We ll have a lot more volunteers after the stories I ve told the staff how great and eventful the day was If you have ever played blindfold football or one handed archery you will fully appreciate the difficulty and the skill that is required which mostly definitely raises disability awareness in sports Respect When you have a part of your body taken away and have to try and function as normal while performing everyday tasks it gives you an overwhelming respect for anyone with a disability Anyone who is disabled and continues to pursue a dream in sports is just phenomenal Callum Hewitt said It was a great day Every child and every adult was having fun and smiling The weather held out for us and everything was topped off by the Monaghan brothers turning up and handing out the medals in the seated volleyball tournament It was a pleasure to be part of and very rewarding to see how much the kids enjoyed themselves Great day Jayne Barnes said Another great day supporting our disability awareness project It s enjoyable showing the children how others who have less abilities are still able to enjoy sports and games with a little help from us I always learn so much on these days and it teaches you anything is possible whether you are fully able or have a disability Jack Day was involved in the blind football He said I enjoyed helping the children and it was nice to see the other side of Gladstone Brookes and the work they do in the community I really appreciate the opportunity and would love to do it again Great experience Jeni Davies is another who looks forward to doing it again next year She said It was a great experience and I would recommend it to others to try it It was nice to see how GB helps others with charity events Christopher McShane also recommends the experience He said

    in the Neo Natal Unit and support research into the care of new borns They look after sick babies mainly from Merseyside and Cheshire one of whom was Laura s baby brother who unfortunately passed away after being born prematurely April Cystic Fibrosis Trust suggested by Adam Mackay The trust is the only UK charity making a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis and those who care for them They are committed to promoting world class research and clinical excellence focused on the development of treatments for the disease which is a terminal illness that you are born with It affects the movement of salt and water in and out of your body s cells which leads to the lungs and digestive system become clogged There is currently no cure but sufferers can get help to cope with the symptoms The cause is personal to Adam whose friend Stacey McCulloch died of the disease a month before her 24 th birthday May Help For Heroes suggested by Michelle Macchione Help For Heroes is a charity formed in October 2007 to help British servicemen and women who have been wounded in current conflicts The aim of the charity is to give practical and direct support where it is needed Michelle is currently looking for sponsors for a sky dive she is planning in May to raise still more money for the charity She says I used to be in the Royal Army Medical Corps so it s a cause very close to my heart June Zoe s Place suggested by Nathan McDonald Zoe s Place is a baby hospice providing home from home environments for children from birth to five years old who have life limiting or life threatening conditions All services are provided free of charge This is one of only a few places in the country which offers services to such young children and I have several aunts who are midwives and have told me many stories about the help they give says Nathan July Disability Awareness inspired by Adrian Derbyshire GB has just been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation of Effort by the Warrington Disability Partnership WDP We were nominated by disabled athlete Adrian Derbyshire who has helped GB staff in the disability awareness training they underwent last year Every July WDP run an annual disability awareness event at Walton Gardens which is the largest in Europe with 280 exhibitors and 27 000 visitors last year August Preston Domestic Violence Services suggested by Jill Holt Preston Domestic Violence Services PDVS provides support for some of the 4 000 adults and children who are suffering or have suffered domestic violence in the area Their 24 7 helpline is often the first point of contact for someone in trouble offering a sympathetic ear information and advice or a safe refuge if needed Says Jill The charity is grossly underfunded and is one that has helped my family and a few friends out of some miserable situations

  • Gladstone Brookes - GB Charity event – Remembrance Ride
