  • Gloucestershire Cricket part of the South West consortium announced as Women’s Cricket Super League host | Gloucestershire Cricket
    Board approved the six selected hosts The Women s Cricket Super League will start this summer with the South West team competing in a Twenty20 T20 event agaainst the other five hosts Thereafter the competition will include both T20 and 50 over formats All six teams have been awarded hosting rights for a four year period from 2016 2019 inclusive Further details on the format and timing of the Women s Cricket Super League along with a confirmed team name and identity for the South West consortium will be announced in due course ECB Director of England Women s Cricket Clare Connor said It is great to have a strong South West partnership with Somerset CCC Gloucestershire CCC and the University of Exeter as one of our six Women s Cricket Super League hosts for the next four years For two rival First Class counties and a university with such a renowned sporting reputation to come together and collaborate in this way to help develop the women s game is an exciting opportunity Overall the award process to identify the six hosts was competitive from the outset and the interview panel was very impressed by the ambition displayed by all of the bids received Our vision for the competition is to create a dynamic and high quality domestic women s game in England where the world s best players come together to drive performance standards and inspire women and girls to love cricket All six of the hosts have passionately demonstrated that they share this aspiration and we are now really excited to work with them to deliver this next stage in the evolution of women s cricket in this country Gloucestershire Cricket s CEO Will Brown added We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as a host for

    win a trophy will be until you ve won one I think for us the hunger is there even more now that we ve done it We know what that feeling is and we want it back We want to be in contention for all three competitions We want to be pushing for promotion in the Championship we want to make T20 finals day and get to at least the knockout stages of the One Day Cup That may not be all in one year but I think all of the lads have the ambition and drive to achieve that To watch the interview in full click below Gareth who was born and grew up in South Africa joined Gloucestershire in autumn 2012 following an outstanding season as Cheltenham CC s overseas player in the Western Premier League He currently averages over 40 in First Class cricket and made his first one day hundred last season in the one run win over Leicestershire in the RL Cup A British passport holder Gareth will become eligible to play for England in 2019 through residency And he says that the club s ability to help players develop was a major reason in committing his future to Gloucestershire He said In regard to my own keeping and batting I feel that the growth I ve had here is significant I have a great rapport with the coaches I believe they can help me develop further and of course that was another factor in me staying To be batting at the top of the order and to be the only gloveman on staff at the minute is a responsibility I enjoy and it s a challenge I m looking forward to In addition to the squad s development on the field Gareth says he has been impressed by the club s growth off the pitch in recent years Since 2012 the club has completely redeveloped the Bristol County Ground including opened a new state of the art pavilion It has and hosted international men s and women s matches and will have floodlights installed in time for the first NatWest T20 Blast match in May Gareth said Having seen the things going on behind the scenes since I joined the only conclusion you can reach is that this is a club moving in the right direction It s been awesome to part of the journey for three years I ve got no idea where the club will be in another three but it s exciting Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson said it was a great boost for the club to have secured Gareth s services for three more years He said I am delighted that Gareth has decided to extend his contract with Gloucestershire He has been an integral part of the first team throughout the three years he has been here and can play a key role in taking the club forward to further success He played a large part in our 50

  • Clubs gear up for “An Evening With The Champions” | Gloucestershire Cricket
    take part in a question and answer session on all aspects of the game Richard said It is about trying to connect with our clubs and make them feel a part of Gloucestershire Cricket Building a stronger relationship can only help strengthen both professional and recreational cricket in Gloucestershire The events which have been coordinated by the Gloucestershire Cricket Board GCB are free of charge The only stipulation is that clubs must ensure at least 40 people attend and at least 10 must be junior cricketers GCB Chief executive Steve Silk said It is fantastic that Gloucestershire Cricket realise the importance of its clubs and want to have a greater relationship with them These evenings will give clubs a first hand insight into the mentality of a trophy winning squad I hope they will not only inspire existing Gloucestershire fans but the next generation of players and supporters as well We are encouraging clubs to use the evenings to bring people together at the start of pre season and make them into real social events The events are the latest in a number of ways that Gloucestershire Cricket has sought to connect with the grass roots game in recent years Other initiatives include Gloucestershire players helping at Natwest CricketForce events attending end of season presentation evenings and being allocated to play for clubs in the top two tiers of league cricket These events are only open to cricket club members and must be booked through the clubs themselves For a full list of clubs taking part and dates please see below Date Club January 13 th Aston Ingham CC January 18 th Rockhampton CC January 20 th Bristol YMCA CC January 25 th Gloucester City Winget CC January 27 th Forest Exiles CC February 1 st Cheltenham CC February 3
