  • Main Configurations
This means that you will always be able to see the highest peak s of the meter in real time but has the drawback that low speeds will show at the top of the meter regardless of your normal maximum speed However the colour of the average results text is still compared to the current data set s maximum and so will still show a visual colour waning of low speeds Exit Icon sends to tray The top right hand corner window close icon will send JDast to the tray instead of closing JDast JDast can be closed from the context menu of the tray or from the main menu drop down Wake Up modes Wake up Mode OFF No wake up mode Wake up Mode ON You can set jdast to wake a sleeping or hibernating computer 1 minute before the next test is due Wake up then Sleep This will not only wake a sleeping computer 1 minute before the next test but will also send it back to sleep directly after the test has finished However it will only send it to sleep if there has been no user activity user input for at least 2 minutes As well as that it always gives the user a warning box for 10 seconds where they can cancel the sleep Wake up then Hibernate Same as Wake up then Sleep but Hibernates instead Testing GUI Transparency Adjust the transparency of the pop up info box that shows during a test if your not running in invisible mode and the mini meter box that sits just above it Max dataset Size Here you should set how many test result records you would like to have as your dataset size When this number of tests has been reached a new dataset will be started automatically You can also have JDast start a new dataset at the beginning of each month or week Monday but the max data set size value will always have priority over monthly or weekly Notify sounds One is a sound for when a test cycle starts The other is a notification sound most often used with error warnings To turn off rub out the sound file path and enter 0 Network Adaptors This is a list of all your network adaptors When the Use Adapter Hooks tick box is ticked this combo is used to decide which adapter to gather the data throughput from Usually the first adapter is the one to be used but sometimes on some setup s you may need to change which adapter is to be monitored Use Adapter Hooks There are 2 methods of measuring the throughput The first is the default Use Adapter Hooks OFF UN Ticked This is the standard method to measure the throughput It has been tested up to 100Mb s both up and down and most probably is quite capable of much higher you may need to use multi threading for very high speeds This method has

  • Download Tab
to make sure that your test file is big enough to maintain its throughput downloading for the duration of your set test time Pick a large test file for this method as it only downloads the data required for the period of the test and no more so even if you have a 1GB file it will only DL for x secs at your current download speed then stop downloading delete the temp file If you add more than 1 URL to this list you will be testing in Multi URL mode This means that each test url is tested in turn and the one with the best speed will be used as the measured result It does NOT mean the download speed result is the average of all the tested URL s Multi Threaded Testing This tick box turns on Multi Threaded testing this is another method of testing from multiple test servers but does not use as much bandwidth as testing them individually would do What it actually does is download all of the test url s in your test list at the same time It will calculate the quantity of data downloaded as the sum of the multiple files This should keep you download speed maxed out even if one or more of the test files is going slow I would not advise using the same URL multiple times for this method as it did show some problems when code testing Edit Main Test File URL List This window is the main way for you to add edit or remove test file url s You can also reset the URL list back to the default just installed list Scan Entire Test File URL List This will scan through all the URL s in the Main Test File

  • Upload Tab
want to use the donated upload testing servers or you own FTP Server Here you enter your FTP server address User Name Your user name Password Your password for the host server the password is encrypted before being held in the ini file holding all your settings Test FTP Button After you have put in your FTP address user name password you can test if a connection is able to be established by pressing this button FTP Upload Location This is so you can direct you upload file to a separate folder on your host server handy if you are using the same server as where you have a web site etc Clipping Sometimes there can be dips or spikes at the very beginning of the test This can be due to many reasons this setting will clip off the beginning of the upload data stream to remedy this situation Test Duration The duration that you want to run your upload test for I would suggest a reasonable time for this setting is about 5 15 seconds what you set the clipping value to will also affect how low you can set the test duration and still get a reasonable

  • Ping/PAK/Jitter/ip Tab
This was added by request as it could be helpful with portable systems which you use to connect to the internet from multiple locations The dropdown list allows you to easily add any IP s already in your current data set including your current IP To remove edit or another way to add IP s is to manually edit the 2 list boxes The format of IP s entered is basically as shown i e enter IP and then press enter to go on to the next line where you can enter the next IP Iv done this setting this way so that you can copy a load of IP s and paste them straight in and it also lets you remove a whole load or all of them in one go Set Delay between pings This is to help prevent ICMP flooding which some antivirus and or firewall programs may try to prevent The default is 30ms Front End Detection Checks By default there are 2 checks done before any testing is started The first checks that your computer has a connection to a gateway router modem The second checks for a general connection to the internet Record WAN

interrupted whilst playing an on line game or running a data transfer app i e uTorrent Throughput Check This is a check of your throughput that is done at the beginning of any test If your throughput download upload is higher that the value that you have set in the user input boxes then testing will be aborted This uses data from your selected network adapter so please be sure
