advances in the veneers market our design team has been exploring creative and practical uses for veneers Reduced manufacturing costs have made exotic woods more viable and the sheer variety of veneer colours textures and patinas now available is enormously exciting Thanks to altered and coloured natural woods veneers can bring a more contemporary sharper and crisper edge to a room than a hand painted finish Veneers are extremely tactile quite impossibly beautiful and mesmerizing and make an intriguing alternative for kitchen cabinetry a library or study br br Guild Anderson are supplied by trade only Mundy Veneers based in the West Country Mundy s stock a huge range of 800 natural and man made finished veneers Simon Mundy s enthusiasm for the beauty of raw veneer is infectious and he makes it a personal quest to source the best timbers for our clients like the search for a fine wine or cigar His descriptions of his travels are highly evocative of bundles of veneers laid out to be examined for defects and splits as carefully and as precious as an uncut diamond the smells of the raw wood the richly aromatic Cedar of Lebanon or distinctive fragrant and earthy smell of teak Simon describes how the texture smell and tone indicate a log s potential as a veneer so he physically handles each one to test the sound The real thing has a pretty and distinctive resonance without which the wood may either be too dry or doesn t contain enough oil causing problems further down the line Guild Anderson and Mundy s have collaborated on a number of projects A country house kitchen installed recently in Wiltshire used a modern grey Tabu veneer called Caleidolgno the soft tones of the grey accentuating the grain of the wood Carrera

March 2016 April 2016 Latest Blog Posts blog 2014 aug 11 fresh workshop month 11 Aug 2014 Fresh from the workshop this month The inspiration for this latest kitchen from the Guild Anderson workshop came from the fantastic space created by Louise Crossman Architects An old stone barn sited next to the main house has been transformed into a spacious kitchen living dining room The new room is linked via a 15ft long glass hallway with stunning views of a tranquil and private valley on Exmoor First impressions are of a bright airy room with the majority of the windows fortunately positioned in the dining area and several roof lights overhead in the kitchen section This is a great lighting situation from a designer s point of view as it allows for all the practical elements needed in a kitchen for cooking preparation serving and washing up without compromising on storage as sometimes we need to in a smaller room However such a large space the floor area is 95m 2 can be surprisingly daunting to create a combined living and work layout that is also homely It helped in this case that there were clearly defined cooking and sitting areas and which were obvious from the earliest architectural plans The cooking area intersects dining at one end and sitting at the opposite end The kitchen island is a notable feature of the new room so was important to strike the right note very central with generous proportions containing the hob on one side a breakfast bar for the client s teenage children on the other and a gently curving cabinet at the dining room end The majority of the kitchen is painted in Farrow Ball Dimpse while the client decided on a deliciously rich and warm colour for the
