  • Thousands head for Christmas Fayre - Great Yarmouth News
    38 000 people into the town centre over three magical days and this year looks set to be equally popular The fayre will be officially opened on the Saturday at 10am at the Great Yarmouth Minster by Marlene Fairhead the mayor of the Great Yarmouth borough The mayor of Lardal a municipality in south east Norway will also be in attendance Cllr Fairhead will travel there from the Town Hall in Santa s Roadtrain with the mayor of Rambouillet Great Yarmouth s twin town in France plus children from Alderman Swindell School On all three days shoppers will be able to visit about 30 additional festive stalls selling a range of specialist crafts and food On the Friday and Saturday visitors will also be able to buy seafood meat fruit vegetables and other produce at the historic charter market The Wednesday and Saturday market will also be running as usual Santa s Roadtrain will run a free shuttle service for shoppers between the Market Place and the Minster 10am 4pm each day Inside the church there will be further festive stalls while outside Santa s donkey reindeer will be offering rides to children School choirs will sing festive songs at the Minster on the Friday And on the Saturday at 7 30pm the Minster will also host a Norwegian Christmas Carol Concert by the 40 strong Lardal Kantori choir Tickets are available in advance from the Town Centre Partnership s office or at the door on the night The closing parade on the Sunday will start at the Town Hall at 2 45pm ending at the Great Yarmouth Minster at 3pm with a ceremony featuring a performance from the band of the TS Warrior cadets from Cobholm The fayre runs from 9am to 5pm on the Friday and Saturday and

    and a staff of over 3 000 the partnership has the capacity to offer reach the 230 000 people the Trust serves in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area Posters with details of how to contact a Leeway domestic violence advocate based at the JPUH have been put up across the hospital Wards have received details of how to refer a patient in their care Julia Hunt deputy director of nursing at the JPUH who worked with Leeway to set up the service said As a hospital we see people who are victims of domestic abuse who are often too scared to ask for help or do not know there is help out there Having a Leeway advocate on site provides patients carers and staff experiencing domestic abuse with a way of getting advice and support while they are in the safety of a hospital setting Domestic abuse is the largest cause of death worldwide in women aged 19 44 greater than war cancer or motor vehicle accidents In Norfolk and Suffolk there are on average five deaths a year related to domestic violence During the last financial year there were five emergency admissions to the JPUH for domestic abuse all five were children The Leeway hospital independent domestic violence advocate will offer drop in sessions providing a free confidential and non judgmental one to one to offer advice about safety planning support for children and any other issues arising For more information about Leeway visit www leewaysupport org Use any of the Great Yarmouth Borough Council town centre car parks and spend 10 or more in one transaction at participating retailers to get the equivalent cost of 1 hours parking discounted off your purchase On redemption of voucher from ticket machine T s C s apply Click here for

    with the aim of promoting the work of the centre and raising money towards the New Centre 81 Appeal for a new headquarters for its continuing role helping people with disabilities The idea comes from the centre s office administrator Helen Griffin who spotted the cute and cuddly bear which she thought would fit into their range of merchandise But from a bare bear he is now dressed up with the Centre 81 logo and is rapidly becoming a mascot for the centre He likes travelling nights out swimming bowling and relaxing with friends said Helen But we really want people to take him to all corners of the world and take a picture of him there for us to display on our special board or on social media Already there are firm plans for Ability Bear to see Grenada Tenerife Barbados and Australia Ability Bear needs to spend time doing everyday ordinary things as well as taking on some very difficult challenges Some of our members face difficult challenges that can be just as trying as everyday ordinary things that the majority of people take for granted The Adventures of Ability Bear will bring a lot of enjoyment but there is also a serious role in increasing the profile of the work we do at the centre and through our community transport service and raising money for the new centre said Helen Ability Bears are available from Centre 81 at Tar Works Road and he will also be found at various events around the area including the Gorleston Christmas light switch on on Sunday November 23rd Each bear costs 6 99 postage packaging if required Ability s Bear s adventures can be followed on the Centre 81 Facebook page Use any of the Great Yarmouth Borough Council town centre
