    with Choirs 2016 Remedy Oak Golf Day 2016 Golf at Goodwood Community Events Hearts and Smiles Golf Day Charity Boxing Who Dares Wins Challenge Events Tandem Skydive Wight Challenge Southampton Half Marathon Sahara Trek Morrisons Great South Run Hendy Ford Eastleigh 10K Road Race Just Walk 2016 Fundraising Pack Sponsorship Forms Photo Gallery Heartbeat House Heartbeat House Relatives Stories News News GRAND PRIZE DRAW Patient Stories Hearty made them smile A little rhino goes a long way Wessex Heartbeat s little rhino Hearty lit up the lives of some of the young cardiac patients when he paid a visit to Ocean ward in the Wessex Cardiac Centre Normal Tuesdays on the children s ward see the visit of a Pets As Therapy dog so everyone was surprised when a baby rhino turned up instead Four year old James Jones from Fareham who has a congenital heart condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus PDA was very keen to give Hearty a cuddle PDA is a condition most commonly affecting premature babies where the normal connections between the main pulmonary artery and the aorta fail to close after birth Although James has lived with the condition the Catheter PDA Closure procedure performed to correct it on the day of Hearty s visit will have long term benefits to his health Senior Sister Margaret Porter reinforced the importance of giving patients like James activities to help their emotional and psychological recovery from cardiac procedures or surgery We know that the stimulating environment of Ocean Ward does make a difference to children s well being and we try hard to keep things as normal for them as possible while they are in hospital We were very pleased when Wessex Heartbeat s little rhino came over to the ward It was a pleasure to see how
