    Southampton Half Marathon Sahara Trek Morrisons Great South Run Hendy Ford Eastleigh 10K Road Race Just Walk 2016 Fundraising Pack Sponsorship Forms Photo Gallery Heartbeat House Heartbeat House Relatives Stories News News GRAND PRIZE DRAW Patient Stories WALK WITH BOYCIE RAISES 4000 23 miles phew For Gerry and Rebecca McKay and their three sons Hamish Charlie and Boyce it took personal motivation and a great cause or in this case three great causes to muster a group of supporters some pushing buggies to Walk with Boycie over a punishing 23 miles between Salisbury District Hospital and Southampton General Hospital At just over a week old Boyce s life was saved by the two hospitals and the sponsored walk for Southampton based charities Wessex Heartbeat and Friends of PICU as well as Salisbury Hospital s Stars Appeal was the family s way of saying thank you Waved off by the Stars Appeal Wessex Heartbeat team members later joined the walkers for the final 7 mile leg and PICU staff met everyone as they celebrated their achievement at the front of Southampton General Hospital Gerry McKay thanked family and friends and although Boyce is now recovered he remembers very well when their new baby was taken into hospital He was so tiny when he was admitted to Salisbury Hospital as an emergency They resuscitated him and gave him lifesaving treatment before he was rushed to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in Southampton for specialist heart surgery Soon after Boyce moved to Ocean Ward to recover while Rebecca and I were able to stay on hand in Wessex Heartbeat s Heartbeat House It s great to be able to give something back through these fantastic charities and I d also like to thank all our generous sponsors for helping to make that possible
