  • Kings Point | Hester Architects
    growth of the town centre and the prominence of the site as a gateway statement marking the start of the main commercial district of Reading We considered views from all adjacent areas which led us to the conclusion that a tall structure would be appropriate in this important location On analysing recent buildings in the area we concluded that the roofscapse of many of the nearby office developments are rather dull and disappointing To alleviate this bland skyline we took the view that a prominent corner building with an interesting roofscape would be a positive addition to the streetscape The Scheme The early urban design analysis identified appropriate uses for the site and it was concluded that a retail presence was needed on the ground floor to provide an active frontage to the Kings Road and Watlington Street To assist in visualising the massing of the building we carried out a three dimensional laser scan of the surrounding area This helped us refine the modelling of the upper parts of the building to respect surrounding properties and key views The upper parts of the building were lightened by introducing additional glazing and setting certain areas back from the main plane
