So for step one create a tile 800px x 800px in Photoshop and set a background colour 2 Create a custom brush select your brush and click on the centre on the page Now go to Edit Define Brush Preset Now select that brush go to your brushes palette and apply the following options to give it a nice scatter effect Size jitter 18 Scatter 789 Opacity Jitter 100 3 Get painting and dot your brush around playing with different sizes and opacities as you go 4 Now this is the magic Make sure the layers are merged into a flat document Now go to the menu and choose Filter Other Offset Set your horizontal and vertical offset to half the pixel dimensions of your canvas 400px and select the wrap around option Now we ll just need to clean this up 5 Now it s time to cleanup select the background colour and start to paint over the problematic areas Don t worry if you destroy any circles in the meantime you can paint new ones in Just make sure when adding new circles and anything else that you stay away from the edges The edges are the key to the smooth repetition 6 Once you re happy with it scale it down to whatever size you d like and save it for web 7 Now create a HTML web page and add this code into your CSS body background image url yourFilenameHere jpg background repeat repeat You should see a nice smooth effect Check my effort not bad for a quick job The second technique is more complex and looks at using more complex patterns and graphics but I will look at this later Give the background an integral role in the design process So lets see if

  • What makes a good logo? | web design northampton - in.house.media news blog
way to wire framing for websites It allows your client to focuse on the shape and structure of your logo rather than being distracted by colour In a past article on gestalt principles of design I talked about how colour is secondary to shape and form well this is a good principle to abide be with your design s especially as colour is so often a distraction to the core principles of your designs Don t follow trends A good logo should be timeless so following trends when designing a logo is not advisable As soon as the trend goes out of fashion so your logo begins to age and decline Your solution should be totally unique and tailored to the needs of your business so be careful not to be overly influenced by other logo designs So I ve broken down 3 key criteria which a good logo needs to meet Your logo should Represent the company s product service It must also reflect the core values of the company as well as the service it provides Be unique and memorable Be flexible across a whole range of media and work in lots of different formats It should also be scalable So for instance if the logo needs to go on a badge or a business card it will need to be really small yet it still needs to be identifiable It may also need to sit on the barrel of a pen so considering basic brand guidelines is also imperative Tags Logo Design 1 Comment Read More Tweet Search for Recent Posts Our Predictions for the Biggest Web Design Trends in 2016 What Are Landing Pages and When Should You Use Them Should All Websites Be Designed Primarily for Mobile 8 Hottest New Design Trends for Your Website

which will no doubt be badly used is the drop shadow Drop shadows often work best when used subtly Another example of how CSS3 is very much a design technology Backgrounds Multiple Backgrounds This feature will allow us to produce some really interesting layouts and also allow us to create layers from which we can edit a composition Using transparent png s I can already envisage creating some stunning backgrounds with this technique Colours HSL Colours Hue Saturation and Lightness will allow us to have more control over our colour pallette and again take over from a job previously done in Photoshop Opacity This will allow us to control the opacity of the actual colours This has great potential for things like rollovers on navigation where previously we d need to create two separate images I predict this will be one of the most popular features of CSS3 Text effects Word wrap The word wrap property was thought of by Microsoft and then put into CSS 3 It allows long words like email addresses to be broken and wrap onto the next line It takes in two values normal or break word This may seem like a small feature but will prove useful nonetheless Web fonts with font face Having always been limited to the usual suspects of Arial Georgia Trebuchet Verdana etc we can finally choose whatever font face takes our fancy with the font face declaration I still think we need to be careful with this technique though as many fonts weren t designed specifically for the web so the jury is still out on this one To try this technique put the following code in your CSS font face font family Delicious src url Delicious Roman otf font face font family Delicious font weight bold src url

  • HTML 5 and CSS 3 are landing Pt 1. | web design northampton - in.house.media news blog
make it easier for screen readers to navigate through our pages all in all making the web experience a lot more fun An incentive for Designers to code You do however need to know how to code by hand to use HTML as there aren t any shortcuts available in Dreamweaver to write the code for you If ever there was an incentive for those designers who can t hand code now is the time For those of you who do know how to code using HTML and CSS the transition should be relatively seamless as all the new semantic tags are self explanatory The elements we can use with HTML 5 Below I ve given a breakdown as to the new semantic tags we will be using and what they will do Block elements Article for things like blog pots newspaper articles and other independent items Aside for things like pull quotes and sidebars Footer for the footer section This tag is not however reserved just for the bottom of the page You could use it as the footer for a blog post or an entire document Header This represents a group of navigational aids and again is a tag you can use more than once Nav you should use this to wrap around navigational blocks and this should be used for links that navigate around the site Section a general section this is not to replace a div however Inline elements Details for additional info also uses JavaScript and can be toggled by the user Figure used to annotate images photos listings etc Mark highlights a chunk of text Time to encode modern dates and times Interactive Audio and Video allows us to embed both these elements without any need for plug in Check back for part2 next
