  • Football Leaders – a Lesson in Business Management?
great business leaders excel at listening to their team Whether it s talking on a one to one getting out there basis or conducting online surveys the power and value of upward feedback is huge both in terms of closing the gap between managers and players and also gaining ideas Interesting to see the Australian cricket team suspending some of their players for not contributing ideas as asked for in a task set out by their coach Picking issues up early and taking action will stop them from festering within the club business and become a bigger issue where removal of key players or the manager may become the end result Club Assistant Coaches Departmental Managers Team Leaders With a large team to manage you inevitably need assistant managers who can handle a smaller group of employees and monitor their day to day activities to ensure everyone is performing their role which will allow you as a team business to achieve your goals and objectives Why is it that football managers seem to take their assistant coaches with them from club to club It is because the team dynamic works and that they all come from the same place minimal conflict and everyone s nose pointing in the same direction with clear goals and responsibilities Communicating your goals and objectives to your Assistant Coaches Departmental Managers Team Leaders will ensure that they know where you are heading and what success looks like Club Players Employees Without the right players employees success won t happen no matter how inspirational and great your management team are Within any team there is a mix of personality types that need to be managed to allow the team to blend together as one and achieve their goals great companies recognise that and develop individual and team working Within football they also focus on the clear understanding of different roles and how they fit together what do we need to do for and with each other to create a successful result Set clear roles and goals for everyone and measures of success that provides shape and accountability The other lesson from football for business must be the succession planning The youth team the reserve team new talent coming in to refresh the overall quality of the team Whilst different in business the principle of effective succession and manpower planning still works The profile and visibility of the big football clubs is fascinating to watch and provides as many lessons as warnings that are relevant to any business Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches

  • This is your captain speaking – I’m doing my best!
too often it is a one size fits all approach They offer generic leadership training which fails to recognise that different skills are needed at different stages of a leader s development In the 1970 s Walt Mahler and his colleagues identified the different skills focus etc that different levels of leadership require and suggested that there are specific leadership crossroads between each level much the same as the transition that a pilot would undergo moving from a single engine to twin engine aircraft and so on up the scale Leadership development can therefore be looked upon as a sequence of steps that a leader would need to climb in order to progress to the next level There are 5 standard leader levels and therefore 4 transitions to make The standard transitions are Self managed to Team leader Team leader to Departmental Manager Departmental manager to Functional manager Functional manager to Business manager We have suggested that the skills and focus needed at the different levels of leadership are different so what are those differences Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches of Blacks Vets have been ranked in the top 10 vet branches in the UK more 16 Feb 2016 Does every employee understand what defines success It is very telling when we go into a company and you talk to the receptionist or the customer service advisor and you ask then what defines success for the organisation In our experience it would be roughly 8 out of10 who say that they don t know 08 Feb 2016 Risk Management Move Your Feet When I was playing tennis the other day I remembered the constant badgering from my tennis instructor when I was younger telling me to move my feet This was a great analogy for how to deal with the broad variety of risks faced by any company more Sales Training Designed for new and experienced sales professionals who want to significantly increase the effectiveness of their sales activities find out more Packaged Services We have developed a number of unique service packages based on what our clients have asked us to do for them in the past find out more Next Event Sales Excellence Masterclass London 20 Apr 2016 OUR CLIENTS Goodwood Innergy invested a lot of time getting to know the business and culture of Goodwood and the type of managers that would be on the programme a completely diverse mix I am delighted the feedback has been so positive Penta Consultancy Not only do they have a true insight into what we need

  • Do you have the “Capacity” to change?
The skills of the people who are required to drive and implement change is a critical factor The skills needed to plan and drive change are slightly different to standard leadership and management skills Here we are talking about the ability to use appropriate improvement tools and techniques facilitation skills ability to engage with staff the ability to manage resistance communication skills and the ability to keep change as a priority The support needed by the people being asked to implement change is particularly important in the early stages The change management skills referred to above can be acquired through training but they only become really effective with practice This means that the early stages of a change programme will probably be light on these skills so support is needed while these skills are being honed Support is also needed in terms of communications in all its forms team briefings posters booklets progress tracking charts etc as well as information systems But above all unfaltering support from senior management is absolutely vital So assuming that the pressure for change in your organisation has been established you have a clear and shared vision of what you want to become you have a clear but flexible plan and you have a measurement mechanism to monitor progress the final question that needs to be asked is do you have the capacity for change Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches of Blacks Vets have been ranked in the top 10 vet branches in the UK more 16 Feb 2016 Does every employee understand what defines success It is very telling when we go into a company and you talk to the receptionist or the customer service advisor and you ask then what defines success for the organisation In our experience it would be roughly 8 out of10 who say that they don t know 08 Feb 2016 Risk Management Move Your Feet When I was playing tennis the other day I remembered the constant badgering from my tennis instructor when I was younger telling me to move my feet This was a great analogy for how to deal with the broad variety of risks faced by any company more Sales Training Designed for new and experienced sales professionals who want to significantly increase the effectiveness of their sales activities find out more Packaged Services We have developed a number of unique service packages based on what our clients have asked us to do for them in the past find out more Next Event Sales Excellence Masterclass London 20 Apr 2016 OUR
