  • A Masterclass in De-Motivation
none of them would raise many eyebrows or cause any major concern but in the absence of any motivating actions over this period these minor instances accumulated and combined to become a major issue The effect was seen soon after A minor crisis had arisen and the head had to call on his team s commitment and motivation to help Drop everything was the plea Not a big request nor an exceptional one but in the context of what had gone before not one single member of the senior team responded The head was dumbfounded So if us humans are able to learn from other s mistakes what is the learning here 1 As leaders we can get away with being directive autocratic and controlling so long as our team remains reasonably motivated Lose the teams motivation and you lose everything 2 Motivation is not a one size fits all phenomenon We need to understand what is important to different people understand how our decisions will impact different people and above all don t assume that what motivates us will necessarily motivate our team members 3 Interfering or micro management is the commonest and one of the worst forms of de motivation Is it really worth it 4 In the western world the concept of privilege and entitlement is being increasingly challenged It is no longer possible to award yourself special privileges without being questioned and having to suffer the inevitable de motivating consequences 5 Motivation like reputation is built over a long time and is based on unwavering consistency the moment we allow one or two inconsistencies to creep in all the good work is unravelled and like reputation motivation disappears in an instant If Darwin was right we can learn from others mistakes but let s make sure it takes less than a million years Published by James Osborne February 4th 2015 James Osborne James Osborne Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches of Blacks Vets have been ranked in the top 10 vet branches in the UK more 16 Feb 2016 Does every employee understand what defines success It is very telling when we go into a company and you talk to the receptionist or the customer service advisor and you ask then what defines success for the organisation In our experience it would be roughly 8 out of10 who say that they don t know 08 Feb 2016 Risk Management Move Your Feet When I was playing tennis the other day I remembered the constant badgering from my tennis instructor when I was younger

  • Mine are called Miranda, Emma and Joanne?!
more importantly why they spent their money Many of the clients I work with now are in the business of selling to businesses But without fail the single most common factor is that they cannot define clearly enough who their customer is This means that a huge amount of money is wasted in marketing activity directed at the wrong people The latest technology is beginning to help to some extent in this respect with pay per click PPC advertising on Google and internet search engine optimisation SEO meaning that businesses can direct customers who are specifically asking for their services But still not enough businesses learn who their customer is from their existing customer base The problem with this is not just a matter of misspent marketing but also a failure to capitalise on repeat purchases to the existing customers Typically generating new customers costs 5 times more than selling to existing ones So why do businesses spend so much time and money on unproven marketing campaigns The answer to improved return on your marketing spend lies in your existing customer base If you can understand who they are what drives them how they spend their time what their influences are and who else they purchase from then I guarantee you will improve your bottom line You might even think about giving them a name Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches of Blacks Vets have been ranked in the top 10 vet branches in the UK more 16 Feb 2016 Does every employee understand what defines success It is very telling when we go into a company and you talk to the receptionist or the customer service advisor and you ask then what defines success for the organisation In our experience it would be roughly 8 out of10 who say that they don t know 08 Feb 2016 Risk Management Move Your Feet When I was playing tennis the other day I remembered the constant badgering from my tennis instructor when I was younger telling me to move my feet This was a great analogy for how to deal with the broad variety of risks faced by any company more Sales Training Designed for new and experienced sales professionals who want to significantly increase the effectiveness of their sales activities find out more Packaged Services We have developed a number of unique service packages based on what our clients have asked us to do for them in the past find out more Next Event Sales Excellence Masterclass London 20 Apr 2016 OUR CLIENTS Goodwood Innergy invested a

  • The enemy of effective communication
After a couple of hours the all clear was sounded from IT and people started to trickle back to their pc s It wasn t a mad rush as you might have expected People seemed to be enjoying this novel way of communicating talking Now that all systems are back to normal the talking has stopped and everyone spends their days staring at computer screens again So what can we learn from this The conclusions that I have drawn from this highly unscientific study are Our treasured computers frequently get in the way of good communication The benefits of talking to each other have been forgotten it really is quite a good way of communicating People enjoy talking to each other how significant is that in creating a stimulating work environment They get much more from a face to face discussion than a whole week s worth of e mails When talking to each other people tend not to shout their message across the whole floor in the hope that someone anyone will pick up on something useful in the way that most of us send copies of our e mails to all and sundry Face to face communication requires us to seek out the right people and to have a clear message or question in mind It tends to be specific and relevant not common criteria when sending e mails So what is preventing us from talking to each other Try shutting down your computers for a day Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches of Blacks Vets have been ranked in the top 10 vet branches in the UK more 16 Feb 2016 Does every employee understand what defines success It is very telling when we go into a company and you talk to the receptionist or the customer service advisor and you ask then what defines success for the organisation In our experience it would be roughly 8 out of10 who say that they don t know 08 Feb 2016 Risk Management Move Your Feet When I was playing tennis the other day I remembered the constant badgering from my tennis instructor when I was younger telling me to move my feet This was a great analogy for how to deal with the broad variety of risks faced by any company more Sales Training Designed for new and experienced sales professionals who want to significantly increase the effectiveness of their sales activities find out more Packaged Services We have developed a number of unique service packages based on what our clients have asked us to

  • I’m looking for action not theory!
we are going to do it The theory behind the tools and approaches is often irrelevant and unimportant to most people Millions is spent on training and development in this country Business leaders are looking for a return on their investment We will only get the return on any investment in training developing ourselves and our teams when We are clear on what success looks like what we want out of it and why we are doing it We are given and understand simple easy to implement tools and techniques proven and based on sound theory We are held accountable for implementing the ideas and practising the techniques We keep focused on action Einstein s theory theory is useful of keep it as simple as possible but no simpler is spot on If you are going to develop your people and great people is often the only real differentiator we have make sure the focus is on simple proven tools approaches not models results not learning action not theory Published by James Osborne January 5th 2015 James Osborne James Osborne Comments Thank you for your comment It has been submitted for moderation and will appear here as soon as we have been able to approve it Your Name Your Email Title Text BLOG TWITTER NEWS 16 Feb 2016 We re Recruiting Digital Marketing Executive As part of our expansion plans in 2016 Innergy are looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to head up the Innergy Digital division 12 Feb 2016 Congratulations to Innergy client Blacks Vets All 5 branches of Blacks Vets have been ranked in the top 10 vet branches in the UK more 16 Feb 2016 Does every employee understand what defines success It is very telling when we go into a company and you talk to the receptionist or the customer service advisor and you ask then what defines success for the organisation In our experience it would be roughly 8 out of10 who say that they don t know 08 Feb 2016 Risk Management Move Your Feet When I was playing tennis the other day I remembered the constant badgering from my tennis instructor when I was younger telling me to move my feet This was a great analogy for how to deal with the broad variety of risks faced by any company more Sales Training Designed for new and experienced sales professionals who want to significantly increase the effectiveness of their sales activities find out more Packaged Services We have developed a number of unique service packages based on what our clients have asked us to do for them in the past find out more Next Event Sales Excellence Masterclass London 20 Apr 2016 OUR CLIENTS Goodwood Innergy invested a lot of time getting to know the business and culture of Goodwood and the type of managers that would be on the programme a completely diverse mix I am delighted the feedback has been so positive Penta Consultancy Not only do they have a true
