    Crufts Dog Show Interest was immediate and a number of clubs were soon established and competitions started In an agility competition a handler and dog negotiating a series of up to 20 obstacles arranged into a course by the judge as accurately as possible and in the fastest time possible and the most accurate and fastest dog and handler win A jumping course includes a number of jumps together with all or any of the following a floppy or rigid tunnel a tyre weave poles or long jump Agility courses may include all or any of the previous equipment together with contact equipment a dog walk an A frame a see saw The dog has to touch the contact the areas painted in a different colour on the bottom of the equipment otherwise they get faulted There are different competitions dependent upon the size of the dog large medium and small and the grade of the dog between Grade 1 and Grade 7 Have a look at what agility is like There are now a large number of clubs throughout the country and indeed internationally We are a Kennel Club registered club which means we run under Kennel Club rules

    years If you have any health problems or a disability let us know so that we can take it into account when organising training Most people can do agility so give it a try Your dog needs to be fit and not overweight but dogs have trained for agility when deaf with only 3 legs or sight problems so if you are keen get in touch Bitches in season or if your dog is ill or just off colour they should not be brought to training Try the Informal Test Before a new dog joins any of the groups they will have a short informal test which will ensure that they are under control and ready to start training in the club Eileen Belshaw a longstanding member of the club is responsible for the test Josie will give you details of what it is about but don t be put off as we say it is just to make certain that you and your dog are under control Join the Buddies To start training in agility you will be joining the Buddies for a 12 weeks basic course divided into two 6 weeks sessions at a fee of 20 per 6 weeks This gives you the opportunity to try out all the equipment You will also become a Buddie member of the club and your membership fee is included This will mean you are covered by our Public Liability Insurance By the end of the 6 weeks you will probably be on medium height for jumps and middle height for the A frame You will be using the training weaves and will have worked with the tunnel dog walk and long jump If your dog is confident you will have worked on the see saw Your dog will be working

    150 yards turn right down a small somewhat concealed lane opposite a white house This leads to the car park of the rugby ground From Ulverston Go down Abbey Road towards Barrow Just before the traffic lights at the Strawberry Pub turn left down Crosslands Park Avenue on your left There is a Post box on the corner of the road After about 150 yards turn right down a small somewhat concealed lane opposite a white house This leads to the car park of the rugby ground Directions to Highfield Equestrian Cente Dalton in Furness From Barrow there are 2 ways to approach the Centre 1 Follow main road through Dalton Turn right down Station Road as if going to the station Stay on this road round the bends over the railway bridge The road bears to the left after about mile you will pass a scruffy pond on the right Take the next left turn down a lane signed Lindal Urswick signpost might be hidden by hedge After about mile you will reach some buildings on the road on your left The turning is in the middle of these you ll see 1 Highfield Cottages on the side of a white cottage as you turn in Park on the left the entrance to the barn is on your left 2 Turn up Long Lane at the top of Mill Brow Follow this road past the Newton Dalton cross road You will pass a row of cottages on the right hand side Take the next road on the left after these cottages Follow this road and take the first turning on the right hand side signposted Lindal and Urswick After about mile you will reach some buildings on the road on your left The turning is in the middle of
