  • Johnsons Coaches | New date added for Bosworth & King Richard III
    born on 2 October 1452 at Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire His father was Richard Plantagenet Duke of York and his mother Cecily Neville Richard had a claim to the English throne through both parents His father s conflict with Henry VI was a major cause of the Wars of the Roses which dominated Richard s early life His father and older brother died at the Battle of Wakefield in 1460 In 1461 Richard s brother Edward became Edward IV and created him Duke of Gloucester In 1470 Edward and Richard were exiled when Henry VI was briefly restored to the throne The following year they returned to England and Richard contributed to the Yorkist victories at Barnet and Tewkesbury which restored Edward to the throne When Edward died in April 1483 Richard was named as protector of the realm for Edward s son and successor the 12 year old Edward V As the new king travelled to London from Ludlow Richard met him and escorted him to the capital where he was lodged in the Tower of London Edward V s brother later joined him there A publicity campaign was mounted condemning Edward IV s marriage to the boys mother Elizabeth Woodville as invalid and their children illegitimate On 25 June an assembly of lords and commoners endorsed these claims The following day Richard III officially began his reign The two young princes disappeared in August and were widely rumoured to have been murdered by Richard In August 1485 Henry Tudor Earl of Richmond who was a Lancastrian claimant to the throne living in France landed in South Wales He marched east and engaged Richard in battle on Bosworth Field in Leicestershire on 22 August Although Richard possessed superior numbers several of his key lieutenants defected Refusing to flee Richard

    delicious cakes HISTORY OF AFTERNOON TEA Afternoon Tea was first introduced in England by Anna the seventh Duchess of Bedford in 1840 The Duchess would become hungry around four o clock in the afternoon This afternoon dining became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her This pause for tea became a fashionable social event during the 1880s upper class and society women would change into long gowns gloves and hats for their Afternoon Tea which would be served between four and five o clock VARIETIES OF AFTERNOON TEA A Cream Tea is usually just scones with cream and preserves served with tea Afternoon tea is traditionally sandwiches scones and a selection of cakes served with tea Visitors from overseas often refer to the British Afternoon Tea as High Tea but this term traditionally signifies an entirely different meal usually compromising of more savoury foods historically taken by the lower classes Royal Tea is a less widely used term signifying the addition of a glass of champagne to a traditional Afternoon Tea for those extra special occasions We think that cream and afternoon tea is a delightful way to spend a few hours and listed below

    the tour seemed a great option for including both destinations as well as the choice of excursions it included What were your first impressions Well for starters our driver Adrian and courier Jenny were amazing and really made our holiday special as I noticed it did for the other passengers Even right from the start as we were about to leave our house and get on the coach I didn t pick my suitcase up once During booking we were able to choose our seats on the coach which made our journey even more pleasurable as we were able to sit in our preferred seats which were very comfortable What did you think of the chosen hotels Well I remember mentioning to Johnsons that it was my wife s 50th birthday and on Wednesday evening whilst we were away my wife was presented with a cake and a card from the hotel management which was a huge surprise and very touching considering we just mentioned it in passing to Johnsons The hotels that were chosen were fantastic The rooms were impeccable the food was scrumptious and the staff members were polite and helpful I literally couldn t fault any of

    Paignton whilst on another Johnsons holiday Johnsons Coaches offer a range of inclusive tours for single travellers called Single Traveller Holidays We often get clients worried that these are singles holidays where we match make them looking for love In fact these holidays are simply for those clients who are travelling on their own for a variety of reasons and are looking for hotels that offer no single room supplement However it was on one of Johnsons Single Traveller Holidays that Mr Strang and Ms Wood were seated next to each other on the coach By the end of the tour they were inseparable and it was with great joy we heard that not only were they getting married but getting married whilst on a Johnsons tour in July Friends and family of the couple along with Johnsons driver Andy Daw and courier Jenny Garret and the fellow passengers on the tour were there to help celebrate this very happy occasion and the team at Johnsons sent flowers and a new luggage tag in the name of Mrs Strang for her return journey home as a newlywed John Johnson Commercial Director of Johnsons commented This is such a great story
