  • Johnsons Coaches | Isle of Man
interactive museum and a fascinating place where the Isle of Man s legendary sea god Manannan guides you through the island s Celtic Viking and Maritime past We travelled back to Douglas via Tynwald Hill a four tiered hill and one of the island s most distinctive landmarks and the TT Course which attracts thousands of visitors from across the globe to the island each year for the TT Races We had time to also visit two more hotels The Best Western Hotel and the Sefton Hotel the latter which Johnsons used in 2014 Saturday began with an early start and a nice walk along the seafront to The Empress Hotel which is featured in Johnsons 2015 brochure We are then treated to a ride on the Snaefell Mountain Railway which is around five miles long and has been in operation since 1895 We travel to the top of Snaefell to see the Seven Kingdoms England Ireland Wales Scotland the Isle of Man and the kingdoms of heaven and the sea However I think we saw at least 4 before being nearly blown away by the strong winds and headed back down to join the coach We then travelled to Ramsey again following the famous TT Course calling in at the Jurby Transport Museum for a look at the large collection of vehicles and a discovery of the island s transport history Next we headed to Milntown Estate and Gardens a delightful 16th century house where we enjoyed lunch in the onsite restaurant which has extensive views of the walled gardens After we boarded the Manx Electric Railway the longest narrow gauge vintage railway system in the British Isles We arrived in Laxey as it started to rain so unfortunately our visit to the Laxey Wheel the world s largest working water wheel was cut short as we really did not want to climb the when and enjoy the views We just wanted to get warm on the coach Sunday began with a real treat as we were collected in a vintage bus and taken to Douglas Station We had a tour of the Steam Railway Workshop which gave us an insight behind the scenes at this busy station before boarding the Steam Train the island s oldest Victorian rail system Both of us were given the chance to ride on the footplate so we really enjoyed the best views of the lovely countryside as we travelled to Ballasalla We waved the train goodbye and once again boarded our coach for a short trip to Rushen Abbey one of the most important medieval religious sites in the Isle of Man We had a chance to explore the monastery and visit the museum and gardens before heading off to the Manx Aviation Museum Next we travelled to Cregneash a village that allows you to step back in time We visited the thatched Manx cottages and were given a taste of life as part of the 19th century Manx crofting community We
