    Nuclear Pharmaceutical Oil Gas and Petrochemical Utilities And Energy Offshore Marine Chemical Manufacturing Development and Regeneration Remediation Industrial Defence Testimonials You are here Home Customers Case Studies Utilities And Energy Baglan Bay Power Station Baglan Bay Power Station CLIENT BP Chemicals DATE June 03 DURATION 30 weeks VALUE 3 5m KDC carried out the full demolition of turbine hall boiler house chimney and cooling towers of the 575MW oil fired power station which was situated directly adjacent to the live petrochemical plant with a number of live process pipelines dissecting the site After considerable planning design and completion of a full safety case it was decided that despite the proximity of the petrochemical plant explosive demolition was the optimum solution to reduce the taller structures to the ground for processing A total of four separate blasts were used to topple the boilers prior to the spectacular triple blast which reduced the two cooling towers and chimney to rubble Once at ground level the boilers and boiler house structure were processed into manageable sizes for recycling of the steel off site The cooling towers and chimneys along with other concrete and masonry structures were also processed prior to being crushed on
