    s Gas Holder Newcastle draws to a successful close KDC collaborate with NGN to achieve a CCS top 10 site at Bishop Auckland Gas Holder demolition Stepping up to the plaque KDC sponsor St Bees Cricket Academy NFDC North West Region raises 10 000 You are here Home News Utilities Decommissioning win for KDC Contractors Utilities Decommissioning win for KDC Contractors DECOMMISSIONING demolition and remediation specialist KDC has won a circa 3M contract from one of Britain s biggest gas pipeline companies Wales West Utilities WWU has awarded KDC the contract to decommission and demolish 12 gas holders in the South West and Wales The project is set to be completed in December 2012 KDC specialists will manage and deliver the contract WWU is a regulated gas transportation business with a network of more than 35 000km of mains covering a sixth of the UK and serving a population of more than 7 million people KDC won the contract following a competitive tender process WWU s decision was based on scheduling methodology commercial considerations and health and safety management Gas holders are large containers where natural gas or town gas is stored but underground storage methods now mean that many are redundant This has resulted in the decommissioning of a number of gas holders KDC director Stephen Hardy who is leading the decommissioning project said I m proud our project team outperformed expectations on the last phase of the project and as a result we have won the entire contract for this next phase We ve built a strong business relationship with the WWU team and are pleased to continue this Gas holders are made of sheet metals and girders and we ll be recycling as much of this material as possible We re committed to doing all we can
