  • Why is dying so hard?! - kiln design
is both relevant and valuable I have woven in a human element that hopefully will allow the learner to realise that care for dying is not something that they need to be afraid of but that it is a privilege similar to being present at the beginning of life to be at present at the end of life The resources use real life experiences to explain what good end of life of care looks like For the main end of life resource we used a parallel universe concept that demonstrated a good and bad example of end of life care These case studies are used to really show the learner how a bad approach to end of life care from a professional s point of view can have a huge impact on the dying person those important to them their carers and the nursing team Emotionally demanding It s made us appreciate that although challenging and emotionally demanding when nursing staff have the right skills knowledge and attitude end of life care can be very rewarding One of the outcomes of both resources is that planning for a good death is something everyone should do If you should lose your capacity to make decisions who would you choose to make decisions that are in your best interests And have you told them When working on this eye opening project it often made us reassess how we view death We regularly talked in the office about the issues the subject matter presents they grey areas in life and how somehow everyone can relate to death This project is so important because it is for nurses who care for the dying and at the end of the day will care for one of our loved ones and maybe even us Everyone deserves

  • Why Learning Designers Should Empathise with Mice - kiln design
Hem the Stabilizer Hem is the one who gets left behind in the story as change is a big threat to him Yet he has the ability to control and keep stability Not a bad skill to have as control and a systematic approach are beneficial to any company You never actually know whether he gets reunited with Haw Being a Learning Designer and empathising with mice When I first read the book I empathised with Scurry the most I kept going day and night and would run with a project until it was done Today I like to think smarter about how I work so now I definitely think I identify mostly with Haw but I d like to think I have some characteristics of Hem too good e learning development needs time management quality processes and control My experiences in the e learning industry have lead me to where I am today but it s not until re reading this book that I realised how much I have changed and adapted Being able to empathise with others is a huge part of my job as a learning designer I m always asking who the learning is for and what they should take away from it If I was in their shoes would I truly find value in this learning Being able to ask questions like these and adapt the learning based on my answers comes with time and experience While stories often have a profound effect on us due to emotional content recent research also shows that our brains are actually hard wired to seek out a coherent narrative structure in the stories we hear and tell This structure helps us absorb the information in a story and connect it with our own experiences in the world I

  • Why I will vote - kiln design
fit the child for the world it was also her place to fit the world for the child And before we could do either we must take an interest in politics No nation grows faster than its women The Vote is now our birthright Let us treasure it So I want to say thank you to Emily Elizabeth Emmeline Ada and all those like you Louise Cox presenting at a Kiln workshop Your impact on the world has made it possible for me to work in what used to be a man s world to stand to be accepted as their equal They seek and value my opinion and as long as I can say hand on heart that I am knowledgeable passionate about my work meet and even exceed our customer expectations then I know I have the right to be here The women of today need to now show the true power of women in business our right has been earned and its now time we use that right Hilary Clinton US Politician We need to understand that there is no formula for how women should lead their lives That is why we must respect the choices that each woman makes for herself and her family Every woman deserves the chance to realize her God given potential Modern day suffragettes let s not forget those who still campaign for equal rights Maggie Aderin Pocock Space scientist People often respond with surprise to the fact that I m a space scientist they re not expecting to see a black woman in the role and I d like to see a time when those barriers didn t exist when girls believed they could do anything Jo Brand Comedian Fighting for women s rights might sometimes be depressing and might sometimes feel like you re just banging on but it s as necessary as ever Tony Benn British Politician Every constituency in Britain should have two representatives a man and a woman thus giving women an equal representation in parliament to strengthen their voice Sir Patrick Stewart Actor The backbone of a modern suffragette agenda must be this question why in 2013 do two women die every week as a result of domestic violence This statistic is utterly incomprehensible to me Celebrating my right to vote Ada Wright is on the ground with her gloved hands over her face A man in a top hat appears to be shoulder barging a policeman behind her while another policeman has removed his gloves and is stooping over her So as a woman with the right to vote I am pleased to celebrate the bravery of those who campaigned for this vote and the right for us to work and live as equals with men There were 9 million women at the last general election who didn t realise how precious our right to vote is Such a statistic shows how quickly history can be forgotten and taken for granted it s less than
