  • Catching up with Mahoney and the Moment | Lakefe5t
and the reception was so warm it made for the most exciting live show we ve done to date When you were starting out who were your biggest influences musically Steve is drawn to older American rockers like Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen but grew up with the fun spirit of the Brit Pop era  Emily come s from more of a folky background even anti folk with some blend of Joan Baez and Regina Spector Our interests definitely cross over on the Alt Country spectrum How has your style of music changed from when you first started playing We were both singer songwriters originally  When we met Steve was singing gorgeous acoustic Americana songs about girls and I was playing folk pop numbers on the ukulele about boys We realized we had something special with harmonies and that our various musical skills complimented each other well  Now we have a kind of Brit pop meets Americana sound which we d like to think is quite unique to us as a band Whatâ s the best thing about playing at a festival For any music lover festivals are a buffet of fun  There s just a youthful hedonistic satisfaction of living in a temporary village full of open space freshly cooked foods surrounded by endless entertainment  You can t be the beat the vibe of live music in the outdoors Whatâ s your favourite colour We can both agree on Navy  It s distinguished classic and looks good on everybody If you could trade places with any band or musician for a week who would it be and why Right now it would be Springsteen and The E Street Band No other live band can match the crowds they get and the money they

  • Rocking out with theLights | Lakefe5t
the best moment of your music career so far We ve done some amazing things and visited some great places throughout our career so far but a real highlight was performing live in session on BBC Radio 2 Nerve wracking but awesome to have that opportunity to play our songs live on such a massive platform When you were starting out who were your biggest influences musically Our musical influences when we started out were so widely varied between the five of us and still are really from Teenage Fanclub The Wedding Present to The Cranberries Rufus Wainwright our tastes are certainly eclectic How has your style of music changed from when you first started playing When we formed all those years ago we were all so keen to just be writing and playing our own music that a lot of the time we were learning our instruments as we went along Now after playing together as the same line up for over 10 years we ve definitely become more accomplished musicians thankfully which has meant that we are now able to write those big anthems we hear in our heads be able to play them live too Whatâ s the best thing about playing at a festival theLights love a festival We very rarely just play and then leave we are all about really enjoying the whole weekend and getting out there and meeting strangers and dancing with them in a field amongst copious amounts of whiskey Perfect Whatâ s your favourite colour Black seems to be our colour theme of choice If you could trade places with any band or musician for a week who would it be and why It would be amazing to be Dolly Parton for the day She s got her own theme park
