  • Lancashire VS Kent - 26 Apr 2015 - Lancashire County Cricket Club
Davies drove at a wide delivery from Claydon and agonisingly edged to Matt Coles at 2nd slip A crestfallen Davies returned to great and sympathetic applause from the crowd and will hopefully later reflect on another important contribution to the side His three innings so far this season have been 40 89 and now a career best 99 After Clark s first ball departure a loose shot outside off to a Stevens delivery that caught the bottom edge on its way to keeper Billings Davies and new overseas player Peter Siddle joined forces to add 27 runs in the first nine overs of the day Siddle on 12 had steered Thomas to the vacant third man boundary for 4 but trying to repeat the shot off the next delivery edged to Billings with the score 344 7 Davies who had taken 66 deliveries in moving from 40 to his half century took charge hitting a series of boundaries from a mixture of cover drives and pulls to mid wicket His 8th wicket partnership with Tom Bailey realised 55 runs in 14 overs and took Lancashire to 350 and four batting points in the 107th over After Davies departure there was time for Kyle Jarvis to hit 26 from 17 balls including one six that sailed past the visitors dressing room and necessitated the use of a replacement ball and his assault helped add a useful 32 runs for the 10th wicket to take Lancashire to 444 all out at lunch Opening pair of Daniel Bell Drummond and Joe Denly made a solid start to Kent s reply although one or two edges just fell either short or wide of the slip cordon with Siddle and Bailey the unlucky bowlers The breakthrough for Lancashire came in the 17th over with 62 runs on the board when Jarvis in his second over found the edge of Bell Drummond s bat and Croft snapped up the chance at second slip Jarvis struck again 8 runs later finding the inside edge of Rob Key s bat from a delivery that came back a touch with Davies taking a tumbling catch The Zimbabwean then added to his brilliant spell with his third wicket in 22 balls when Denly edged to Horton at slip to put the visitors in a spot of trouble at 85 3 in 23rd over Kent s problems deepened three overs later when Brendan Nash played a poor shot edging a short ball to Davies to give Clark his maiden first class wicket and make the score 93 4 Darren Stevens and Sam Northeast added 36 runs in 6 overs to reach tea on 129 4 but Stevens had failed to add to his 15 runs after the interval before he was dropped at slip off Siddle straight after the resumption and then palpably lbw shouldering arms to the same bowler the batsman actually walked before being given out six overs later Northeast and Sam Billings fought back well with a 42 run alliance in 11 overs although Billings on 9 gave a difficult jumping chance to Ashwell Prince at 3rd slip who could only get his fingertips to an edge off Siddle Billings was less fortunate when he was run out by a great pick up and throw by Alviro Petersen at mid off as the pair tried to take a quick single off Simon Kerrigan to make Kent 190 6 in the 50th over There was time for one further wicket with Matt Coles making a complete hash of a reverse sweep and bowled by Kerrigan for 19 with the score 214 7 after 56 overs Rain prevented any further play with Kent 230 runs behind and still requiring a further 81 runs to avoid the follow on with Northeast on 48 not out Lancashire Emirates Old Trafford Manchester Sun 26 Apr 2015 11 00 English LV County Championship Division Two 2015 V Lancashire win by 9 wickets Kent A century from Ashwell Prince led Lancashire to a day of dominance against Kent in this LV County Championship game A glorious sunny day at Emirates Old Trafford greeted the teams and Steven Croft standing for skipper Tom Smith who was side lined with a back problem chose to bat after winning the toss The enforced change meant Lancashire gave Jordan Clark his first class debut nearly five years after the all rounder made his one day debut Kent also made one change following their defeat by Essex with Brendan Nash replacing Cowdrey Paul Horton and Luis Reece started in positive fashion each stroking an early boundary and settling into a watchful partnership without any real alarms against Kent s opening pair of Mitch Claydon and Ivan Thomas Having successfully seen off the new ball attack in a 38 run partnership the introduction of Matt Coles in the 14th over brought the visitors double success Reece on 21 pushed at Coles fourth delivery one of a slightly shorter length and edged to Darren Stevens at second slip Alviro Petersen then fell to Coles next delivery feathering a leg glance that was gleefully snapped up by wicketkeeper Sam Billings Ashwell Prince easily survived the hat trick ball which was waywardly leg side It proved to be an interesting morning for Paul Horton who was hit on the body at least four times including one Coles bouncer that glanced off the top of Horton s helmet for four byes and he had a life on 26 after edging Coles through the slips for four But this is a true hard wicket that had a bit of help in the morning for the bowlers while rewarding good strokeplay and Lancashire went in to lunch on 81 2 Conditions flattened out during the afternoon and the batsmen took advantage Horton and Prince adding 55 runs in the first nine overs after the resumption and their union had realised 98 before Kent made a further breakthrough It came as something of a surprise too when Horton

  • Lancashire VS Gloucestershire - 10 May 2015
P aul Horton s 21st first class century was the highlight of the second day and this LV County Championship game is evenly poised at the halfway stage with Lancashire 276 6 still 112 runs behind Gloucestershire s first innings total of 388 A partnership of 134 runs inside 28 overs between Horton and Ashwell Prince underpinned the Lancashire reply the pair looking untroubled throughout an afternoon of high class strokeplay Horton made the most a life just before lunch when a difficult chance in the slips failed to stick and he reached his first century in 12 innings shortly before tea with Lancashire halfway towards their visitors total on 194 2 exactly 194 runs behind Both Prince and Horton were severe on the left arm spin of Tom Smith who conceded 34 runs in his first 5 over spell and Horton in particular unfurled a number of beautiful cover drives on his way to three figures The pair joined forces with Lancashire on 73 2 after Alviro Petersen had been bowled for 7 by one that nipped back from Craig Miles to clip his off stump the visitors only success during the afternoon It was a different story after tea as Gloucestershire hit back to claim four wickets and put themselves right back in to the game The first to go was Prince who having just reached his half century with some attacking shots edged an attempted drive to wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick the ball after he had imperiously straight driven Miles for 4 to make the score 207 3 Steven Croft having hooked Miles for 4 to get off the mark was lbw to Kieran Noema Barnett for 20 and Alex Davies departed from the very next ball run out by Will Tavare from backward point as the Red Rose reply stuttered at 247 5 Jordan Clark was lbw to Liam Norwell for 7 playing no shot and it fell to Peter Siddle with 6 not out to support Horton who finished the day unbeaten on 134 from 242 balls The morning session saw Gloucestershire s lower order resuming on 322 7 add a further 66 runs in 13 overs during the first hour to frustrate the Lancashire attack The visitors were all out for 388 from 109 overs and their batsmen enjoyed some good fortune as several edges and nicks evaded the slip cordon dropping either short wide or flying over the top of the waiting fielders reflected by the fact that 33 of the first 48 runs scored were behind the wicket Siddle was particularly unlucky to only take one wicket that of Miles lbw for 16 albeit some revenge after the batsman had twice found the third man boundary earlier in the same over That ended a quick fire eighth wicket partnership of 24 runs in 4 overs but Noema Barnett and David Payne combined to add a further 29 runs in the following seven overs before Kyle Jarvis ended the innings with two wickets to finish with 4 124 and the Lancashire fast bowler now has 22 wickets so far this season Payne was the first to go driving Jarvis straight back to the bowler who held on to a smart catch and Noema Barnett perished after making 33 off 55 balls hitting out as Gloucestershire chased a fifth batting point Nathan Buck taking the catch on the third man boundary That left Lancashire 13 overs to face before lunch during which Luis Reece was out for 16 getting a bottom edge attempting to pull Norwell to square leg after successfully playing the pull off the same bowler the ball previously Lancashire Emirates Old Trafford Manchester Sun 10 May 2015 11 00 English LV County Championship Division Two 2015 V Gloucestershire win by 91 runs Gloucestershire A century by Chris Dent helped ensure that Gloucestershire enjoyed the better of the opening day in this LV County Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford but Lancashire s bowlers hit back late on with four wickets over the final 11 overs to leave the visitors on 322 7 at the close After Geraint Jones won the toss Will Tavare and Chris Dent continued their recent good form with an opening partnership of 81 the third consecutive innings these two have compiled in excess of fifty for the visitors first wicket They survived some early scares after excellent opening spells by Peter Siddle playing in his final match for Lancashire before returning to link up with Australia and Kyle Jarvis with the pair inducing several false shots during the first hour s play Both batsman survived to flourish during the second hour to lunch driving and cutting with purpose although there was an anxious moment for Tavare on 34 when he inside edged a Nathan Buck delivery that ran down to fine leg Buck making his Red Rose debut and the only change for Lancashire replacing Tom Bailey had a nervy initial five over spell that saw the fast bowler conceded 39 runs before Steven Croft turned to the left arm medium pace of Luis Reece just before lunch However Buck guilty of over pitching and then dropping short and clearly desperate to impress on his first outing still produced a couple of snorting deliveries that nearly took a wicket The one wicket that did fall during the morning went to Jordan Clark who accounted for Tavare on 53 the batsman pushing at and edging a ball that left him off the pitch with Alex Davies taking the catch Dent and Gareth Roderick then continued the visitors progress into the afternoon adding a further 78 runs for the second wicket as the Red Rose attack struggled to breakthrough on a good batting surface Roderick played one of the shots of the day driving Clark on the up through the covers during his innings of 31 only to fall to Simon Kerrigan soon after the left arm spinner was introduced in to the attack for the first time
