  • Lancashire VS Glamorgan - 19 Aug 2015 - Lancashire County Cricket Club
this competition he said and it s just a shame we didn t get the opportunity to play and lose or play and win today I think in the early part of the competition we were on the wrong end of a couple of tosses especially at Essex where it was tough batting in the morning and much easier in the afternoon and it was similar at Liverpool The 10 30am starts are a disadvantage especially with two new balls being used If we look back we probably should have won the game against Warwickshire where the game was there for the taking but unfortunately we didn t get it over line The last action we saw today was the sight of Prince launching the second six of his 38 not out from 26 balls in Lancashire s 68 0 with Karl Brown also unbeaten on 29 from 26 balls Rain forced the players off before another ball could be bowled It was the third passage of play with rain stopping proceedings after just 8 deliveries and then again after 3 overs with Lancashire 9 0 Following a near three hour delay the teams tried again with the game reduced to 23 overs per side and Prince and Brown attacked brilliantly to race along to 68 0 before rain had the final say with only a total of 8 4 overs bowled During his innings the South African left hander passed 2 000 runs in all competitions this season an outstanding achievement the left handed batsman is rightly pleased about I m trying to contribute as much as I can in all competitions he said modestly One of our goals at the start of the season was to get promotion in the Championship It would be nice if we could

  • Lancashire VS Glamorgan - 21 Aug 2015 - Lancashire County Cricket Club
Division Two 2015 V Match Drawn Glamorgan K arl Brown scored the second first class century of his career and Alex Davies scored 95 as Lancashire ended the second day of this LV County Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford in a strong position against Glamorgan who are 48 1 and trail by 414 runs It was the first time Brown had reached three figures since his first century against Sussex in 2011 although he had gone close during the last four seasons falling in the nineties on four separate occasions including two this year The Lancashire opener jubilantly drove Michael Hogan to the long on boundary to go to his hundred from 217 balls with 13 fours and then quickly moved on to pass his previous best innings of 114 made against Sussex at Liverpool in 2011 Brown found excellent support from Steven Croft as the pair added 99 runs from 31 overs in the morning session after resuming the day on 161 3 Croft had a close call on 11 when Jacques Rudolph at second slip could only get fingertips to an edge off Graham Wagg but he went on to compile a patient half century which included one six off Andrew Salter who he later also reverse swept for one his four boundaries The two batsmen were patient throughout content to steadily build their partnership which had realised 118 runs by lunch with Lancashire on 260 3 Brown 124 not out and Croft on 57 Brown had a life shortly after the resumption when Rudolph failed to cling on to a one handed diving catch at second slip off David Lloyd It was a short lived reprieve however as Brown departed soon afterwards to a standing ovation for 132 when he pulled David Lloyd to mid wicket where Chris Cooke took a good tumbling catch That ended a fruitful partnership also of 132 runs at 274 4 after 97 overs and it needed some quick scoring by Alex Davies to steer Lancashire past 300 and claim a third batting point with two balls of the 110th over remaining Glamorgan only collecting one bowling bonus point for their efforts Croft fell for 67 two overs later when edging an attempted cut off Craig Meschede to wicketkeeper Mark Wallace to make the score 307 5 in the 112th over Davies and James Faulkner stepped up the attack as the afternoon wore on with Davies going to his fifty from 57 balls when hitting Andrew Salter for six over mid wicket It was an excellent innings by Davies that helped to really push the Lancashire scoring along the wicketkeeper batsman hitting nine fours and launching Kieran Bull for a straight six just before tea which he reached having made 74 from 81 balls to put Lancashire in a commanding position on 384 5 After the break Davies and Faulkner continued to hit out in spectacular style as Lancashire looked to pile the pressure on their opponents Faulkner made 63 from 70 balls including 8 fours and one six which sailed over the mid wicket stand and necessitated a change of ball The Australian perished hitting out two deliveries later caught at long on by Meschede off Lloyd attempting to hit another maximum and that ended an enterprising partnership that had added 128 runs inside 23 overs Davies who had scored 89 and 99 earlier this season look destined to make his maiden century here after playing a whole range of attacking strokes but agonisingly he fell two overs later for 95 from 114 balls attempting another attacking shot but top edging a Colin Ingram delivery which was caught by Wagg running from cover to point That wicket made the score 444 7 and the remaining wickets tumbled quickly as the tail hit out in the chase for quick runs the innings ending on 462 in the 141st over With 16 overs to negotiate Rudolph and Bragg scored quickly as Steven Croft set attacking fields although Rudolph nearly chopped on to the first ball of the innings from Kyle Jarvis The pair had steered Glamorgan to 40 0 after 11 overs before Arron Lilley struck with his second ball to have Bragg lbw for 27 pushing forward Nightwatchman Salter saw the rest of the overs out to finish on 3 not out with Rudolph 18 not out and Glamorgan go in to day three trailing by 414 runs with their first target tomorrow that of reaching 313 to avoid the follow on It was a good day we re in a position where hopefully we can keep taking wickets and push for the win said Karl Brown If we can get a couple of early wickets it puts us in a great position Reflecting on the Lancashire innings Brown said It was about setting it up and trying to get as many runs as we could We thought that if we could set a good platform this morning we could accelerate towards the end and Al Davies and Jimmy Faulkner did that really well It was a great feeling but I ve felt good all season he replied when asked about reaching his second first class century today To get over the line and get three figures is a really nice feeling I always believed it would happen and that I just needed that little bit of luck that I probably didn t get in the previous innings I felt good out there all the way through I never doubted my ability to score hundreds It s just taken longer than I wanted I didn t have any doubts during the innings when I got out in the 90s I thought I was going to get a hundred in those innings too they just didn t go my way today it did Since returning to the Championship in mid May against Leicestershire Brown has strung together some consistent performances in four day cricket I have played well in one day cricket

lot of confidence and a lot of skill to stay at the crease It might be more difficult tomorrow with a turning pitch I m pleased that we go into it with all ten wickets in the shed that was vital It s going to be a tough first hour and then we will have to battle the spin in the afternoon Lancashire are eight points behind Surrey in the table and Croft is determined to battle all the way for the division two crown We don t want to see Surrey winning the title here tomorrow he said That s going to give us a bit more incentive to keep them out all day We would be disappointed not winning the title We ve been on top of the table for eighty per cent of the season so to let it go in the last couple of weeks would be really frustrating but we ve still got a chance to win it If we go into that last game slightly behind we ll still back ourselves to finish on a win Ken Grime Lancashire Emirates Old Trafford Manchester Mon 14 Sep 2015 10 30 English LV County Championship Division Two 2015 V Match Drawn Surrey S urrey are in control after two days of this the LV County Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford with Lancashire 141 5 at the close trailing by 339 runs The visitors compiled a big first innings total of 480 and then took five Lancashire wickets during the evening session to put themselves well on top The only downside to their day was a serious looking hand injury to Zafar Ansari after the Surrey all rounder had earlier been named in the England squad for the tour to UAE At the start of play James Anderson made the early breakthrough that Lancashire were looking for when Steven Davies on 34 edged to Karl Brown who took a good head high catch at 3rd slip That wicket came in the third over of the morning to leave Surrey on 268 5 but Red Rose hopes of making further inroads in to the visitors line up were thwarted by a 95 run partnership between Jason Roy and Gary Wilson for the 6th wicket The pair played some attacking shots in their 17 over alliance Roy hitting Simon Kerrigan long on for 6 to go with the eight fours struck in his 60 ball innings before he departed for 66 bowled after attempting to sweep Kerrigan In fact Surrey made a concerted effort to claim maximum batting points after starting their innings slowly Sam Curran hit three fours at the start of his innings but the loss of Wilson who top edged a sweep off Kerrigan and was caught by Karl Brown at short fine leg when 51 saw the visitors on 384 7 in the 108th over settle for building on their first innings score Surrey reached the 110 over mark on 389 7 collecting four batting points and extend their overall lead at the top of the table to seven points with Lancashire only able to claim two bowling points Tom Curran joined his brother Sam in adding a further 37 runs but departed after top edging a pull off Anderson that gave the bowler his 700th first class wicket and wicketkeeper Phil Mustard his first Lancashire catch Sam Curran then drove Kerrigan to Ashwell Prince at long off for 29 to make the visitors 423 9 but Lancashire were further frustrated by a last wicket stand of 57 runs between Surrey skipper Gareth Batty and Matt Dunn The experienced Batty walloped three sixes and three fours in his unbeaten innings of 50 from 61 balls while Dunn dropped anchor to lend great support to his captain before falling for 3 off 36 balls Dunn was the last man out with 480 on the board when he hit Kerrigan to long on where Prince took a well judged diving catch Karl Brown and Haseeb Hameed safely negotiated the 8 overs to tea which Lancashire reached on 24 0 but four early strikes after the break put the Red Rose in deep trouble Hameed had made 17 when he was lbw driving at Sam Curran and was quickly followed by Alviro Petersen who was lbw for 1 pushing forward defensively at Tom Curran Brown struck three fours off one Sam Curran over before becoming the third lbw victim to a full delivery from the same bowler two overs later It left Lancashire on 47 3 in the 16th over but that became 57 4 soon afterwards when Steven Croft edged to a rising delivery from Sam Curran to wicketkeeper Foakes after making just 5 Ashwell Prince and Phil Mustard responded with an attacking partnership of 63 during the final hour of the day On loan wicketkeeper Mustard playing a first class game for the first time since May produced some lovely cuts and drives and hit seven fours in making 43 from just 46 balls He was out stumped by Ben Foakes off Gareth Batty pushing at the off spinner to leave Lancashire 120 5 at the start of the 33rd over Prince playing in his final match at Emirates Old Trafford timed the ball sweetly in reaching 38 not out by the close and was supported by Jordan Clark 9 not out to steer Lancashire to 141 5 but still
