  • Broad's tribute to Anderson
taken a mere 261 wickets having now moved above Graeme Swann in the list but he is still 36 behind the Kent slow medium left armer Derek Underwood Jimmy was really good and when it s swinging like that he s got it on a string going both ways said Broad who also confirmed that he is to have a knee operation at the end of the summer or early in the close season but that he will be fit for next year s World Cup That s how bowling goes and how partnerships go he added Some days it s your day and sometimes it s not But Jimmy bowled beautifully today and a lot of his runs came through the third man region off little nicks and slices He looked in a great rhythm he s feeling very fit and I think he s benefitting from that time off he had after the Australian tour It s great but all eyes are on Jimmy at the moment with him being nine or ten behind Beefy That s hugely exciting and I want to be around when that occurs and for him to be the first bowler to take 400 wickets for England Broad also revealed that he had initially thought that England were on the back foot when Alastair Cook lost the toss I was a bit disappointed because I thought it was a big toss to win but we got lucky with the overheads he said It became quite cloudy and it felt quite heavy However we didn t get lucky with the skill that we produced because we practice that sort of thing It swung nicely but we challenged the front foot of the Indian batsmen and took our catches We put ourselves in such a

  • Bell wants an aggressive Buttler!
tribute to Lancashire s wicketkeeper batsman whose 83 ball 85 helped England post a total of 569 for seven declared India were 25 for one in reply James Anderson removing Shikhar Dhawan for six Jos was outstanding said Bell He nicked one that didn t quite carry and it looked like he was thinking a bit too much So we spoke about playing the way he plays and the natural instinct he has He then hit a nice back foot punch for three and afterwards he looked like the Jos who plays in county matches and one day internationals That s the player he has to be If we get platforms he will move the scoreboard on and get us into winning positions We know how much potential he has it s huge But it is different tests in Tests and he has to find a different way to play if we re in trouble He s also as exciting player as we have if we have a platform That excitement was in evidence as Buttler hit nine fours and three sixes in an innings which delighted the Southampton crowd although Buttler also enjoyed a fair share of good fortune He was reprieved by the third umpire when it seemed he had been caught at second slip by Ajinkya Rahane before he had scored and Buttler was then dropped at first slip by Dhawan before MS Dhoni fumbled a stumping chance He was eventually bowled when he bottom edged a ball from Ravi Jadeja on to his off stump Jos is a laid back guy and that s good said Bell We want to keep that He should play aggressively and have no doubts about anything We want an aggressive Jos Buttler He has a nice game against spin He

  • Buttler century in vain - Lancashire County Cricket Club
Ashwell Prince and Steven Croft then went about the business of reconstructing the innings with calmness and purpose only for Prince to fall for 19 the South African being caught down the leg side off Durham debutant Paul Coughlin That left Lancashire on 74 4 with their ultimate target seeming the most distant of goals However the second hour of the day belonged exclusively to Croft and Jos Buttler the pair adding 91 in 16 overs before lunch as they capitalised on the inaccuracy of an attack seemingly overcome by the scent of its first four day victory of the season Croft reached his fifty off 66 balls just before the interval and Buttler reached the same landmark just after the resumption when an overthrow saw him to his half century off just 51 deliveries With the crucial first half hour of the afternoon session having been negotiated safely some Lancashire supporters may have indulged themselves in a little optimism If so the rest of the session reprimanded them for their indiscipline and inexperience Having batted impressively to make 72 off 99 balls Croft swung Stokes to deep square leg where a back pedalling Gordon Muchall took a good catch two handed above his head Tom Smith played with his accustomed coolness to add a further 42 with Buttler but Lancashire s No7 was unable to play the longer innings his side require Instead with the score on 245 and Smith s own contribution being 26 he thick edged John Hastings to gully where Scott Borthwick took a good catch low down Glen Chapple could add only 14 before his attempted cut edged Stokes to Mustard and Kyle Hogg was bowled for a single when playing inside Hastings That left Lancashire on 269 for eight it also left Durham smelling blood But this outstanding game still had plenty of surprises in reserve for an increasingly tense crowd at the Emirates Durham There are many worse No10 batsmen than Kabir Ali who happily took the singles on offer both before and after tea Ali showed himself to be equally resourceful in the evening session hooking Stokes for a six and making 25 of the 40 runs he added with Buttler in a stand which revived Lancastrian hopes But just when the possibility of a famous victory began to be glimpsed Ali played forward to Hastings and gave a simple catch off bat and pad to forward short leg Keaton Jennings The new ball became available next over and Buttler clipped a two off Rushworth before pushing a single into the off side to reach his century off 131 balls with ten fours and a six the latter a mighty blow over long on off Borthwick Two balls later Kerrigan played across an inswinger from the excellent Rushworth and a close game ended with the scenes of celebration and disappointment which so often accompany the conclusion of such matches Rushworth finished with 4 45 off 20 4 overs and Hastings collected 3

  • Buttler fired up for Finals Day
a really good atmosphere in the dressing room I ve really enjoyed playing for Lancashire It would be huge if we could win it Twenty20 cricket s gone really well for us this year We won ten games in the group stages and only lost twice We ve found a really good formula and the team s been playing well It s down to us to turn up on Saturday and not let the occasion get to us and just play another game of Twenty20 cricket get to the final and do the job We ve had lots of players who ve put in some outstanding contributions and we ve won some close games which is a great skill to have a bit of know how If it gets tight on Saturday we ll have that belief that we ve been there already this season We don t have Junaid Khan but it s great to have Jimmy Anderson available It s almost like having an overseas when Jimmy s available That will be absolutely brilliant I ve spoken to Jimmy and he s buzzing for it He s a proud Lancastrian and the way his career s gone his chances to play for Lancashire are few and far between He s really really looking forward to it The guys at the top of the order have been brilliant Tom Smith Karl Brown Ashwell Prince Steven Croft and Paul Horton That s been the base for the way we ve played because we ve batted first in quite a lot of our games Those guys have really set the game up Lancashire s last appearance at Finals Day came at Edgbaston in 2011 when they were beaten semi finalists by Leicestershire in English cricket s first ever Super Over Eliminator On the same day Buttler was involved in the second Super Over as his Somerset side squeezed past Hampshire before losing in the final to the Foxes Finals Day has been pretty tough for me he said I ve been to a few before without much success with Somerset Hopefully that can change with Lancashire I ve lost two finals and one semi final It s not a great record but I feel every experience I have in my career I can use it as a positive It s not something new to me And as for his first taste of Test match cricket he added It s all been pretty surreal I guess but that last month has been absolutely brilliant My ambition has always been to play Test match cricket and to realise that ambition has been brilliant I ve thoroughly enjoyed every game which I was determined to do For England to turn the series around and win was an amazing feeling Being in the dressing room with those guys who were hurting after being one nil down it was obvious how much belief there was and how much people thought it could be turned around That
